Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Booked a triple room overnight as we drove up to the university of Birmingham to drop off our daughter. Good location, very convenient, with car park for guests. Booked through Expedia, the details for check in were incorrect, there is staff to welcome you, no need to call in advance etc. They asked for photo ID and copied that before giving us the key: no problem for us, in Europe this is standard so we had come across it before, but summertime may be caught off guard if you are not aware in advance. The corridors and stairs are tired and not clean. The bedroom was ok, although the carpet was not clean at all, even found half eaten sweets by the need and an used tissue. The bathroom was definitely the worst: mould had grown everywhere, all around the shower plate, and all over the ceiling. Part of the shower was broken off too. Several holes in the walls in the bedroom.

Unfortunately I really didn't enjoy our experience the last time we stayed due to a really rude member of bar staff . I'm unsure of her name but she's short and was wearing a red top . She totally ruined our experience while staying at The Avenue

Absolutely do not book this. Booked on booking.com no picture of the front of the building if there was defiently would have not booked. The name sounds like you are gettig a fab place to stay, not some dingy 1990's working mans club that everytime you walk through you are felt very much intimidated.
The room was apparently a child friendly place to stay....shower was chlostrophobic due to no extractor fan so when shut in the shoe cupboard supposed en suit both myself and children came close to passing out. No temperature control due to it being broken so was OK for me but not for a 6 year old. No tea or coffee making facilities you have to walk into the bar to a self service tea and coffee making area again intimidating and not something you want to do at night with a bar full of working men all staring. The room was poorly ventilated a small window opens into what I presume is a court yard come smoking area.
The first night no sleep due to noise from guests from a function earlier on in the bar. Second night was fine once the bar shut. Tonight we'll im lying here at 4am writting this after hearing a conversation of what drugs they could get and what did people want which then resulted in loud music all night long racial abuse towards an Eastern European man from a local man. The most delightful language.....all I can think is thank god I'm not here tonight
So as stated family friendly not at all
Value for money should be shut down defientely needs looking into by the council and defientely not in our current times covid safe despite the 2 or 3 stickers placed at the entrance

Without doubt this is the worst place I have ever stayed in. Arrived and found the car park area was inadequate almost to the fact that you could not even turn your car round to manoeuvre into a space.
The room was in a disgusting condition, stains in the bathroom, shower and the room itself, sticky dust on the skirting boards suggest that its never been cleaned properly. Tea/coffee facilities a joke. Bed was terrible with springs actually sticking out of the mattress no sleep at all we booked 3 rooms as a family for a nearby wedding and they were all exactly
the same so no coincidence. Do not book a room here for an overnight stay because you will regret it, I'd like to thank booking.com for taking my money for this place and I'll make sure I'll leave them a good review somewhere as well

I booked this hotel to visit my son in Selly Oak. I wanted a budget room for a night but It’s without a doubt the worst hotel I have ever stayed in. It was as if someone had tried to trash the room. The door handle was loose, a roller blind was on the floor below the window, having come off of it’s attachments, the wall heater was coming away from the wall, the smoke alarm was hanging off of the ceiling, and the shower spray head holder was hanging off the wall in the shower. But it also felt unsecure as the bathroom window could not be closed and the front door to the hotel was left wide open, allowing anyone to walk In bypassing reception and so without being seen. The main window of my room overlooked a huge pile of rubbish and waste materials. What a dump!

Nice owners and great place to stay if your drunk! Do not book this accommodation if you are looking for a stay of more than one night. Rooms are not hotel standard and the beds are very uncomfortable! Heating and showers need to be updated... sheets to fit the beds and mattress toppers would be a great improvement! Plug sockets lose from the wall a concern and just generally really not good! Shame as has lots of potential..had to check out early as not happy, and owners were in fairness very good at refunding our stay.

Avenue Lodge and club was ideal for our purposes and, Above all, the staff were cheerful, kind and helpful. Rooms were clean and fresh and they even provided toiletries - I reckon they'd been recently refurbished. Admittedly the view from the window isn't the most scenic but it lets in light and fresh air.

The rooms are over a pub and function room. There was nothing going on in the function room when we were staying so I've no idea how much the sound from that might affect the rooms, but the pub part was busy and had a jukebox on but was completely inaudible from our room even with the window open, so we got a solid night's sleep. Car parking was perfectly adequate.

Breakfasts were simple but substantial and good value.

The pub isn’t particularly to my taste (no draught real ale, Sport on the TV) but it was friendly and convenient. And I’m reviewing the accommodation, not the beer selection, so this gets a firm thumbs up form me. If I need to stay in this part of the city I'd definitely stay here again. Great value for money.

Granted it doesn't look the best from the outside but the rooms are spotlessly clean. Lovely comfortable beds. Unbelievable value for money. Hot and powerful shower. Bright white clean towels. And quiet considering the function room downstairs plays music loud. The breakfast was incredible value for money. I slept perfectly well. What more can you ask for ar £45 a night?
