Fog on the Tyne? Let's hope not. Otherwise you'll miss the great view of the Tyne Bridge you get from our hotel in Newcastle city centre. But then, when you're staying at Malmaison Newcastle, it's the views on the inside that tell you your boat's come in. While you're right at the heart of Newcastle's great shops and exciting nightlife, the lure of MALBAR's legendary cocktails and the Mal Brasserie's classic dishes with a twist is pretty strong. And who wants to spend all night out on the town when one hotel in Newcastle has a whole floor with a shipbuilding theme and bathtubs you could sink a battleship in? It could only be the Newcastle Mal.

I used this hotel a lot at one time. Came back for a long awaited break with the hubby. Was greeted poorly ….. if your work is not customer facing then do it back of house or don’t choose the first station. I booked a room with a water view, when we got to the room it didn’t have one. I called down and was rudely told I was mistaken and needed to pay another £20 to move. I’m not about the £20, he made out that I was trying it on…. For £20 people! Seriously! No I just wanted my weekend away with my husband after 2 years of covid to be special …. The hotel clearly did not. I did tell the guy on the desk that I was going to leave this review and he was no blasé. The room was not clean, the usual bottles and bits of loveliness all now removed for fixed bottle on the wall. No mini bar, bottle of wine or usual trimmings that you used to get in the room…. It’s all very ‘budget’ now. Budget room, budget service ….. but not budget prices. What have you done Malmaison?

My best friend and I went for afternoon tea and a spa session. I cannot fault anything from booking to the service from the minute we came in. Tessie and Callum treated us like royalty and catered to our every need. Tessie remembering our names was particularly wonderful. The afternoon tea was gorgeous, just enough food to not make us too full and allow us to enjoy each morsel. The scones where the best. The spa experience with Robyn was amazing, that is the best massage I have had for a long time. I will 100% be back. Thanks so much to all the staff, such a good day.

Also the guys serving breakfast and the lovely lady that greeted you on arrival. Thank you! It was a great breakfast too! Great location we got an upgraded room overlooking the bridge, nothing was too much trouble. Look forward to staying their again!

We spent 3 nights in a club deluxe room with a bridge view in early January. It was our third Malmaison in 6 months and is definitely the best and friendliest. Check in was quick and efficient. The room (421) was lovely- very spacious with a comfortable bed, great bath and wonderful views of the bridge. The restaurant staff were very patient when we decided relatively late on the first night to eat in the hotel. They still made us welcome and the food was nice. Breakfasts were made special by the lovely Tessie, a great asset to the hotel. David on reception was helpful and attentive and quick to order us taxis when we asked. The hotel is a short taxi journey from the town - it is possible to walk it in about 15 minutes but it involves quite a steep hill. Overall it was a lovely way to start 2022 and we will definitely be back.

Stayed at the Malmaison for a pre-Christmas treat after a horrible year and we were not disappointed. Upgraded to a superior room on the sixth floor with Tyne view and it was definitely worth it. I do love places where you look out the window and know exactly where you are and this is certainly one of those. Room and bed were super comfortable with 2 tellies! Fabulous food for dinner. I don't usually eat much breakfast, but couldn't stop, there was so much yummy choice. Staff were very helpful and friendly. We really enjoyed our stay here and hope to do the same next Christmas.
