Detailed Reviews
Charnwood Guest House not only matched but exceeded my expectations this weekend. My partner and I travelled down for a wedding and we were met by Jo the hostess. She goes above and beyond to make her guests feel comfortable and I really appreciated the extra effort she had gone to in providing little chocolates on the pillows and tea and coffee facilities in the room. I had a wonderful nights stay, the bed and duvet were very comfortable and the orthopedic pillows were AMAZING!
The optional breakfast is a must, Jo goes out of her way to make sure you have everything you could want and more. I am not a fan of a big greasy fry up and much to my delight everything was prepared very freshly with no grease in sight! This stay has made me appreciate locally run guest houses and it has inspired me to always look for these over large corporate hotels. You can really tell when this is someone's livelihood and they put their heart and soul into it.
I recommend Charnwood Guesthouse whole heartedly. Thank you for making us feel so at ease and welcome Jo, it felt like a home from home and you are a credit to your business.

The accommodation was ideal for our golf trip. The accommodation was close to the town centre and an ideal location for golf. We had a hassle free weekend with excellent, clean facilities. The owner was extremely helpful and very accommodating.
We will certainly use the facility again.
Thanks, The Golf lads

An excellent 3 night stay(May 28th-31st 2021) which enabled us to visit a close friend in Shrewsbury as well as celebrate belated 70th and 30th birthdays as a result of previous covid restrictions. Jo could not have been more welcoming and nothing was too much trouble for her. She even got in some croissants specially for our daughter-in-law! The breakfasts were amazing. We hope to be able to return again! Dennis & Liz Jenkins and Matt & Fliss Jenkins

Trip cancelled due to a mistake on their end but I had to cancel and the communication with the individual running this was shocking. I’m glad I escaped the nightmare of staying here if the communication with this person was anything to go by.
Woman also seemed offended to be referred to as a hotel as it’s a b&b which obviously allows her to be rude towards guests. Shame.

We luckily found a vacant room in Shrewsbury during the Flower Show weekend, which resulted to be quite a busy time of the year in the town. The owner, Jo, has been kind to us when we booked by phone.
Being situated in London road, the b&b is quite far away from the town centre and it is not served by buses after 6pm and during weekends.
Due to restoration works going on in the house, Jo told us she could not serve breakfast. No big deal, if you are used to bring your own supplies. The problem is the price we paid: 80£ per night for just a room seemed too much to us. Microwave and fridge were available, but maybe this fare could have been justified if at least some cereals and milk were provided together with them. Overall, Jo looked more concerned about the works and not very much so about her guests.
The room was ok, but housekeeping seemed not so efficient to us. We left at 9am and came back at 4pm, and the room was surprisingly still untidy.
In conclusion, we left a bit disappointed, not because of the location or the restoration works themselves, but mainly because of the owner's poor hospitality. A more fare price for what we got would have been enough for us.

We visited from the US to attend the Shrewsbury Folk Music festival and chose Charnwood. It was comfortable, and we had a very nice time. The innkeeper, Sue, is a terrific innkeeper. She offered us great advice for getting around, and is a wonderful host.
The room was comfortable, although we packed too much clothing, we did not have space to put it all. The shower was great, beds comfy, and wifi was superb.
The best was having a delicious breakfast each morning, and meeting another couple to chat with. This is why staying at a B&B is so much better than a cold hotel.
We'll be back!

Staying at Charnwood Guestbook turned out to be great. The bedroom had a homely feel, and the good quality duvet cover and sheets allowed for a decent sleep. Services included everyday cleaning of the bedroom and replacement of essentials. The owner Jo offered for breakfast a good range of choices for breakfast and the full English option was cooked to perfection. Also, breakfast had been always amended to accommodate personal preferences, and prepared on time. The other areas of hosting became apparent whenever Jo and her husband Peter willingly gave information on transportation options and recommended sites to visit in Shrewsbury. Charnwood Guesthouse contributed to my first experience in Shrewsbury being a welcoming and pleasurable one.

The Charnwood is conveniently located for the English Bridge and Abbey approach to the town and the room was quiet and reasonably soundproof despite being on a somewhat busy main road.
Everything was clean and tidy, the rooms nice and airy with their large modern windows. The beds were comfy and there was a good shower,
Whilst not the best guest house I have ever stayed in, it was nonetheless good value at £50 per night.

Let's start with the positive. I arrived early to deposit a few things before visiting Shrewsbury and she was very accommodating because it meant she could go to the cinema.
However I was disappointed because on booking I had requested somewhere to put my bike and she offered me space in her shed but when I arrived she said the shed was full and it was too much work to move stuff. She did offer me space at the side of the house behind a gate so it was safe but it was forecast to rain so I had to buy something to cover the bike with.
She was also taken aback that midweek someone might want to have breakfast at half seven and told me she couldn't possibly get up that early. I proposed cereal and things that I could organise myself but was disappointed that there was no kettle to be found in the breakfast room in the morning. Also disappointed that when I left after eight my host didn't make it down even briefly to say goodbye. It was probably the most I paid for a single night on my trip and the worst of the five places that I stayed.
I imagine it is better on a weekend.
The room was spacious and warm and she and her husband were not unfriendly.
