The Holiday Inn Express Shrewsbury, part of the IHG group, garners praise for its spotless rooms and inviting atmosphere, offering a comfortable stay that many find to be great value for money. Guests frequently commend the friendly staff, but some have experienced slow service and occasional unresponsiveness.
While the majority of travelers enjoyed well-maintained and comfortable rooms, a few have pointed out cleaning oversights and maintenance issues. Additionally, while the hotel is popular for its overall cleanliness and amenities, noise and extra costs have been concerns for some visitors.

The hotel is situated on a commercial estate surrounded by offices so there is 24/7 in the area. The hotel itself caters mainly for business people and people stopping over on their way from A-Z but we stayed four nights. Parking was free and the room cost included free breakfast and parking. The location means that if visiting Shrewsbury you would require transport although there is an hourly bus service ()not Sundays) within easy walking distance on the parallel London Road which goes to the bus station.
The rooms have no cupboards or drawers but adequate storage, large en suite shower room and the bed was extremely comfortable. The breakfast was more than adequate with hot and cold choices. Despite its location there was little exterior noise. The hotel also has a small choice of hot and cold meals available in the early evening. The menu includes Gluten Free, Vegetarian and Vegan albeit slightly limited choices

I had the pleasure of staying at this particular hotel from Monday 11th November for four nights. This IHG hotel is positioned within what looks like an industrial park/estate. However it’s not what I would describe as an industrial estate, the estate contains a lot of office blocks and not distribution centres. There are no big trucks rattling passed your window all night, it’s very very quiet, even with the A5 positioned a few thousand metres away you don’t hear a thing, there is a car park, however it’s not operated by IHG. It’s operated by a private company, register your car or vehicle at reception just the once and then came and go as many times as you like. Shrewsbury is approximately 2 and a half miles away, it’s a beautiful British town, it’s full of history and well worth a visit. Reference the hotel, it was refurbished in 2022 apparently, well the refurbishment still looks fresh today. The rooms are fresh, clean and very comfortable, well maintained by an excellent team of staff. The staff are amazing, so kind, polite and attentive. Nothing is too much trouble. A very special mention to Jermaine, management of IHG listen up! In Jermaine you have a diamond. That lovely young man is tailor made for the hospitality industry, look after him and don’t let him leave the IHG for one of your rivals. Breakfast is absolutely lovely, hot and fresh and plenty of it. Fruit juice, coffee, tea, toast, cereal and pastry’s all available. I was away from the hotel during the day working in Telford so I didn’t see what the hotel done for lunch or the activity. The evening was lovely, there is a limited menu for the evening diners. There is a a pub called The Bell in a place called Cross Houses, it’s roughly three miles away, i liked the food in there, chip shop also in Cross Houses. Failing that, order some food in , I ordered a curry one particular evening and sat and ate it in the dining room. I thoroughly enjoyed my week in The Holiday Inn at Shrewsbury and when I revisit Telford again for work purposes I will most definitely be going back to the Holiday Inn to stay, it’s roughly twelve away from where I was working in Telford, roughly a 20 minute drive from Telford to the above hotel.

Business meeting early the next day so booked in to the Holiday Inn express Shrewsbury stayed here several years ago really nice hotel very clean unfortunately when we checked in, this time we went to our room the minute we walked in the bed was used and not been made and lots of black branches of hair everywhere really on hygienic went to reception they happy changed the room for us. The second room was not much better couldn’t use the bathroom shower as bad mould and hair They took photos of the first room and said they will see into it as the cleaners are new but that’s no excuse they did apologise we went down to reception to get some food to the restaurant and there’s people in their vaping cloud of smoke told the manager twice about the situation. We could not eat in the restaurant due to this being a member of this chain of hotels for a long time and this hotel lets the hotel chain down did call two days after spoke to general manager said the main manager will get back to me been nearly a week and still no response from management. This is clearly unacceptable. Avoid

Have never written a review before but after staying here for one night, wanted to leave an honest review. This was not a cheap stay either for a family of 4.
We arrived late at night after travelling from London with our two young children as a stop over on our return back to Scotland. We had booked a family room and upon arriving in the room, found that a bed had not been set up for our children. There is no phone in the room to call reception so my husband had to go down stairs to inform staff at front desk that the sofa had not been set up in the room. A member of staff came up and set up the sofa bed for the children. The sheets and bedding were all clean, however the room itself was very tired with damp on the wall and bubbling wall paper. There were stains on the wall too. We stayed in room 121. We were exhausted after travelling for 2 and a half hours so went straight to bed as soon as the bed was made up. This was around 10.45pm.
In the morning, I went for a shower to discover that the light was off in the shower unit- having no phone I could not report this to reception. The water would go absolutely scalding hot. It was hard to see the taps for the shower and what each did and they were very stiff. The shower had black mould around the shower door. I had to stay in the shower with my children in order to quickly turn the shower away when it went too hot. Changing the temperature in the shower did not seem to help. At breakfast the staff were friendly and helpful however the cooked breakfast was very dry and bland. We came down at around 8.45am and breakfast finished at 9.30am. A member of staff came over who was very friendly and bubbly and gave our two boys a welcome pack. I then reported the shower problem and was asked if we were staying another night- we weren’t. Nothing further was then done about this.
Lift up to rooms shook as you went in and made funny noises.
Staff who were on duty in the morning were very nice and chatty however I would not say that this was a family friendly hotel. Food was not great and room was not Holiday Inn standard at all having stayed at a few on our holiday to England over the last week. The sofa bed our children slept in was not very safe as it had large metal parts sticking out that our 5 year old hurt his back on. Doors in other rooms did not have soft close which meant early in the morning there were doors banging as guests went for breakfast. We reports issues but nothing done about it. Definetly will not be staying again. Please see photos.

I stayed in this hotel for 5 nights whilst I was on Business. My room was only serviced / cleaned once despite asking 3 times for my room to be cleaned. The staff were always full of apologies and said that they would get it sorted, that they had issues with the housekeeping team and that they would add bonus points to my account. Well, they never arrived. The hotel is dated and in need of some refurbishment. In the Bathroom, there was a cracked and dirty sink, the shower cubicle was also dirty, and the bedroom chair was extremely heavy and difficult to move.
The evening food is extremely poor. You order via a QR code, and the Vegetable Lasagne was obviously bought in and then heated, it was awful. Breakfast was OK. Over the 5 nights, the hotel had no ice!
The location of the hotel is good and the car parking ok. I have stayed at this hotel many times, but I can see that it is in decline not only with the poor state of the rooms & buildings, but the staff are frustrated and unable to cope.

For a two night stay, Holiday Inn Express at Shrewsbury Sitka Drive was just right.
Location: easy to find, good amount of car parking (new ultra rapid EV chargers coming on line soon), quiet over night, Co op Food Store a short walk away.
Staff: very friendly and efficient.
Room: when we opened the door to the room we were allocated first, it was to find that it hadn't been cleaned after the previous occupants. A trip back to reception and we were allocated a room on the first floor. The layout, furnishings and amenities were as expected. The sheets were nice, the towels were considerably newer than some hotels. The shower had far better water pressure than the size of the shower head suggested. The decor wasn't too tired and – joy of joys – the window could be opened. Can't comment on the air con/heating as we didn't require either.
Cleanliness: the room itself was clean but we had the impression that, over and above the servicing for changeovers, a lot was being missed. Corners of windows had cobwebs, especially in the stairwell and common areas; the bottom of the shower screen didn't look very nice - but the shower/basin/loo were fine. The corners of the bathroom floor had minor accumulations of dust. If you stay more than one night, your towels will be changed (if you put them on the floor beforehand), and tea and coffee will be restocked but the bed won't be made. Odd, but fair enough.
Breakfast: on account of my multiple intolerances, we don't usually have a hotel breakfast. However, on the first day, we found there were tubs of instant porridge, which I can eat. We asked if the contents could be microwaved with milk in a bowl. We've had this done at two other Holiday Inn Express hotels recently with no fuss. On this occasion, this apparently wasn't possible but milk was heated for me to pour into the porridge container. Sadly, this doesn't cook the oats and leaves them inedible. My husband, however, helped himself to the full range of cooked breakfast items and pronounced them very good.
Overall: our stay was a quiet and pleasant one and, if we are ever in the area again, this particular Holiday Inn Express would be on our list of places to consider staying.

The hotel is located just off the main ring road, outer skirts of Shrewsbury Town Centre. It is opposite a Land Rover dealership within a quiet industrial estate. On arrival, I was greeted by very friendly staff and handed room keys and told breakfast times.
The room was very tidy and large amount of space, I did think if this was a accessibility room due to the amount of space and layout. The hotel overall is pretty dated but had all the features expected and was clean. The bathroom was modern and had a cubicle style shower with a bench, if you fancied taking a seat! The only thing missing in the room was a iron, this was strange but the staff were very helpful and went to another room - I presume unoccupied to get me one.
Breakfast is served in the main entrance area in true Holiday Inn Express style laid out in buffet and the usual items: Toast, Cereal, Croissants, Muffins and hot food items.
There is complimentary parking but you do have to enter your registration on the ipad, something a lot of hotels are doing nowadays. If you fancy a walk, there is a chippy and Co-Op within 10 minutes walking distance from the hotel.
If you are visiting Shrewsbury and may want to stay somewhere a little away from the town centre or hotel at a cheaper rate, I would definitely recommend this hotel - As mentioned above it is a little dated but if you are not fussy you will enjoy your stay.
I would give this a overall score of 9/10

We booked through a booking agent and knew this was a good deal, seven nights, half board with two courses. We knew the hotel was on an industrial park a couple of miles outside Shrewsbury hence the price. Pros were large room (very small tv on desk) good large shower, towels and toiletries and free parking. Cons were the menu, tv size and lack of ambience of dining and bar area. This is an hotel for business and contract workers spending one or a few days and weekenders. When checking the menu online we found it was limited but accepted that for the price. On arrival we were informed that deliveries were delayed and the menu would be even more restricted. and also that we would have to use their ap to order food, not mentioned on the website. Two starter choices the same the entire week, mains varied slightly but mainly chicken orientated and desert generally just ice cream. I was looking forward to the lasagne and sticky toffee pudding, after complaining about the lack of lasagne, the duty manager managed to provide one for me one evening but not for my partner, no sticky toffee pudding was available all week. The food was reasonable and produced quickly although obviously slightly boring. The breakfast was good though scrambled rather than fried eggs. The dining area was very brightly lit with extremely bright downlighters and not comfortable eating at the small tables. You could order your food on the ap and eat in your room which a lot did or had takeway delivered, a suggestion by the Duty Manager at the time because of the limited menu choice. The wine choice was expensive £26 for a bottle of Malbec but then again this was more of a lager bar than anything and most retired early to their rooms. Our room at the rear was near the bins and Network Rail contract vehicles loading for the early shift, not ideal. All in all, you get what you pay for and it was good value for money for a budget hotel. There are no nearby pubs or restaurants unless you travel into Shrewsbury. We tried catching a local bus at the very nearby bus stop but it never arrived so we had to use the car to go into Shrewsbury.

Be VERY AWARE that if you arrive in the evening and it is dark, the parking outside the hotel is not free. The hotel is at the end of an industrial estate with nothing within walking distance. If you miss the signs, you will receive a ridiculous parking fine that will cost you over 60 pounds per night. They say that the signs are clear, but they are not and not one at reception reminded me. This is a scam, as I stayed two nights, and I will get a 120-pound parking ticket on top of the cost of the hotel.

Hello, the heating was air conditioning which can also heat the room, also, when we were there in January there were small electric heaters in the room for extra heating but we found the warm air blower was enough to heat the room, the outside temperature was just above freezing and inside the room was a pleasant 22 degrees.
There are more places to choose from in the Shrewsbury area.
