Clementine's Guest House has garnered acclaim from guests for its immaculate cleanliness and uniquely charming atmosphere, with each room's individual design receiving particular praise. While the cost has been noted as steep, including parking fees, the hotel's prime location offers a tranquil yet convenient base for exploring York.
Service at Clementine's is generally celebrated for being attentive, although the breakfast experience has shown some inconsistencies. Amenities are well-received, especially the well-stocked bar and modern decor, despite some comments on room size and occasional odors.

Great location for visiting the city...10-15 minutes walk, and 20 minute walk from the Railway Station as we let the train take the strain this time. We had the Rowntree Suite ....what a room .large comfy bed . Lovely double shower and balcony with distant views of the Minster Although near the main road ,being tucked up a side street it's very quiet Breakfast is very good with a range of choices. Bar is well stocked with a large range of gins Only disappointment was that there was no local draught beer. All staff were friendly and welcoming Our room was kept spotless and replenished daily with tea coffee hot chocolate etc

I had a great stay, brief, but excellent. I only realised upon arrival that I’d stayed previously, when the hotel was called Marmadukes. This reincarnation is a considerable upgrade on its predecessor, which was tired and old fashioned. Clementines has benefitted from quite a makeover. The new look is chic boutique and gorgeous. My room (8) was beautifully styled, with high end bedding and toiletries, in addition to the always welcome provision of tea/coffee making facilities. I didn’t eat or drink at the hotel but noted the cute little bar and attractive breakfast room. Reception staff were really helpful and friendly. The hotel offers parking at £15 a night but you can park for free on the street between 4pm and 10am, it’s a safe, well to do residential area. The walk into town (to the Minster) takes around 15 minutes.

This is a beautiful guest house. We stayed one night and the room was gorgeous. The breakfast was fantastic and the service was warm and friendly from all staff including housekeeping who showed us a room they had just cleaned so that we could see the view of the minster. A really thoughtful thing to do and someone who obviously loves where they work 😊

What a hidden gem, we got to the hotel around noon to drop our bags off so we could go for our dinner as check in was 3pm onwards, we we're pleasantly surprised to be told our room was ready. We was shown to our room and Wow, the bathroom was spacious with a walk in shower, plenty of storage space in the room, a huge TV wall mounted, tea, coffee and hot chocolate available also a Chocolate bar on the dresser. The bed was honestly the best bed we'd ever slept in. The hotel as a whole was tastefully decorated with many features. The bar was well stocked and reasonably priced. The breakfast was delicious. The staff we're very friendly and helpful even returning a bag to us that I'd left in the bar the evening before we checked out but the star of the show was Teddy the Cat, I'm not a Cat person normally but we hit it off together lol. Would I stop here again, definitely without hesitation, in fact our next visit is being planned as I type this review

We had a very pleasant overnight stay in this beautifully decorated quirky hotel. The staff were very friendly and the room was very clean and well equipped. We had the impressive four poster balcony room. The only reason I gave the review four stars and not five is because I found the floorboards quite creaky & the bed a bit lumpy and more uncomfortable than my bed at home, however, my husband found it very comfortable and slept very well!! The balcony was an added bonus it too is decorated very nicely and as the hotel is situated in a peaceful location it was very enjoyable to sit on and enjoy a glass of wine. The hotel gives easy access to walk into York and the on-site car park is handy and although costs a fee is still cheaper than the public car parks. We would definitely recommend staying here and hope to stay here again ourselves on future visits to York.

The hotel is in a quiet road about a 10 min walk to the city centre. Beautifully furnished with good breakfasts. Parking is a bit of a lottery. They have limited parking at £15 per day. However you can park on the road for free overnight (and all day Sunday) and it’s not a through road.
Don’t stay in room 14. NO WINDOWS!! We didn’t notice when we checked in as it was after dark. I think this double room should offer a discount as having no windows is very poor and it was not indicated on website or by the receptionist. Staying for 3 nights with no windows - maybe OK for 1 night, but not 3

Thank you for reviewing your recent stay. I am so pleased to hear you appreciated our beautiful décor and delicious Yorkshire breakfasts. I am sorry you were disappointed with your room. This is the only room we offer without a window and it is priced lower than the size and facilities on offer would ordinarily go for to accommodate for this. I am sorry you did not bring your concerns to our attention as we would have happily arranged you an alternative room for the remainder of your stay. I hope this will not stop you from visiting us again in the future. Best Wishes, Laura

The hotel was immaculate. Very clean, well presented and luxuriously decorated through out. Staff were friendly, welcoming and attentive. The area is quiet for a good night's sleep.
High quality bed linens and towels in our room, as well as complimentary toiletries which were also of high quality.
Breakfast was delicious, with fresh good quality produce.
The only fault we could find was that our television remote didn't work very well. We were unable to change the volume on the TV which meant we were straining to hear it. Just a small thing (probably the batteries), but it didn't really impact our stay.
Special shout out to Teddy the cat who lives at the hotel, he is an excellent host and joined us for a cream tea.
We have and will continue to recommend this hotel to our friends and family and will definitely be back next time we visit York.

Our whole experience was superb. The hotel was recommended to us by another hotel which would not take one night bookings.
We arrived after a long drive to a warm, friendly welcome by the ladies on reception, actually walking out of the building to greet us and help us park.
Rooms 16 and 25 were both beautifully decorated and comfortable. We were given chilled water and milk in thermos bottles (and offered a choice of milk too).
We were given directions for our dinner booking - a short pleasant walk into the historic centre.
The beds were super comfy, bathrooms sparkling clean with lovely toiletries.
We had a pre booked time for breakfast and had chosen the menu the night before so there was no hanging about for service.
We had taken up the offer of a free walking tour with Dave Haw and he was excellent. We both love history and he was full of juicy gossipy stories of the past - loads of detail to give colour to the place. He tailored the tour to what we wanted and clearly loved what he does. A real treat. He works on the basis of tips alone and we were happy to pay him for the great service.
The hotel helped us leave the car park, filled our water bottles with cool, fruited water and waved us warmly off like we were old friends. Service really felt like it came from the heart and not because it’s their jobs.

We stayed Sunday night on a last minute booking. The hotel was amazing and the staff were lovely. It was all very clean and modern, we had car parking and even got a room upgrade. The room had all the facilities you could need including yummy Cadburys hot chocolate and biscuits. The location is really convenient, we went straight there without needing to negotiate the town centre traffic and it's less than 10 minutes walk to the Minster. Will definitely be returning.

We only stayed one night but we wish it had been more and will definatly be going back! I dont think I would want to stay anywhere else when visiting York.
When we arrived we were greated by a young lady nammed Becca. She was very very friendly and put me to ease right away. I am not a people person and have alot of difficulties when staying away from my home but I was surprised with how relaxed I was thanks to her charm. We were checked in swiftly with no problems and then led out of the reseption though the private enterence to the After eight suite. There is a lovely garden that if the weather would have been better would have been loevly to sit in. Even though the suite is at the back of the garden its still so private. I felt like I wasnt even in a hotel. There is also alittle private sitting area to the left and a little pod to the right for late night chilling outside.
Touch key card enterence and as soon as the door opened we were hit with warmth. It was so cosy and I was plesently surprised. Its like a cabin from the future. The design is great, the tv is huge with netflix, amazon prime and you can even screen cast your own devices over to it. Never mind the one mint on the pillow thing... here we got a whole box of after eights. Two kitkats with milk, 2 cappachino and hot choc pods for the coffee machine, mixture of teas and a bottle of water. There is also a mini fridge, 2 hot water bottles. The bed is very comfy and the bathroom was great, loved the shower and you will have everything you need including slippers and a dressing gown. There is two sets of cutrains, one that will allow the light in but bring more privacy and another that will black out the room and bring complete privacy.
As a added bonus if you like cats there is a gorgeous little cat called teddy that is often laying around, he is so loving and friendly. We even got to take him with us into our room for alittle while!! But dont worry if you are not a fan of cats the staff are wonderful and will go above and beyond to make people happy.
The only thing I will say is the parking area is quite small and could be an issue depending on how busy they are, fortunatly we managed to get a space and it wasnt a problem.
So to finish my review, we loved it, we loved the staff, we loved the location, we loved the room and we love teddy! Cant wait to go again.

Hi Christina, Thank you so much for taking the time to leave us such a lovely review and kind words! It was great having you and your partner here, we're so happy to hear you enjoyed your stay in After Eight (even through a storm!), Next time you stay hopefully the weather will be a bit nicer for you to take advantage of the pod, it'd be perfect to sit in with a coke and another jigsaw I think! We look forward to your return, -Team Clementine's (PS, We saw your drawing of Teddy in our visitors book too, all the staff were saying how cute he looked!)
