My wife and I have visited York on lots of occasions but this was the first time staying at the Dean Court.
We were not disappointed and we will be returning!
The hotel's location can't be beaten; being a stone's throw from the York Minster was perfect.
The hotel is a grand as it looks and the staff are fantastic.
Another huge benefit is the hotel parking, £20 will give you secure parking from the moment you arrive up until 11pm (I think) the next day, even after you've checked out.
Anyone who has parked their car in York will know what great value that is.
In brief:
Pro’s….
• Fantastic hotel
• Amazing location to explore York, especially on NYE
• Great staff
• Reasonably priced drinks at the hotel bar
Cons…..
• We didn’t experience any, everything was fantastic!

My wife and I enjoyed a three night stay in this delightful hotel, The Covid restrictions were managed in a professional and sensitive way. We were welcomed at the hotel door by a really nice guy called Frank who took our bags, gave us a mini tour of the hotel and explained how everything worked in our bedroom. He then also took care of parking our car.
We were in Room 19 which enjoyed a clear view of the Minster. We understand that it had been refurbished during Lockdown so it looked and smelled fresh. In fact it was very comfortable, excellent bed, super wall mounted state of the art television, and extremely quiet for a City centre hotel. However we were pleased that the Minster clock is switched off from 10pm to 8am
We didn't have breakfast in the hotel, and the dining room was not open for dinners in the evening. However we did have a light lunch one day and it was most acceptable.
The location is excellent, all of York's places of interest are within easy walking distance, and the reception staff were knowledgeable and helpful on local matters.
Check out was easy and fast, and our friendly porter Frank, who is originally from N Ireland had our car sitting waiting for us on the morning of our departure.
Highly recommended, and we most certainly will return in the future.

Dear Tuchenclut Thank you so much for taking the time to write a review following on from your recent visit. As well as it being pleasing for me to read it is also informative and sets a good level of expectation for future guests. For those that do read several reviews of our hotel they will not be surprised to hear Franks name mentioned in a positive manner as is so often the case. Our owner of whom I don't often mention on here will be particularly pleased with your comments regarding the TV in one of our newly refurbished rooms as incorporating these tv's were his idea. With the quality of the staff, the ideal and convenient location and the comfortable modern bedrooms, it certainly seems that you enjoyed your stay with us and we hope to welcome you back to the hotel in the future for another fantastic stay. Kind regards Steve Bailey

Perfect location for a one night stay, right next to York Minster and only yards from the narrow streets including The Shambles.
The standard double room was more than adequate and very clean with an equally large bathroom and powerful shower.
The road side bedroom did have an amount of noise from outside early morning so maybe not perfect for anyone hoping to have a lie in.
All staff were friendly and polite the only slight issue was a long delay for the cooked breakfast and it was overcooked when it arrived.
The valet parking is well organised and quite reasonable compared to general parking in York.

Hansontripad2118, Thank you for reviewing our hotel. I am glad to read that overall you had a pleasant stay with us, you enjoyed one of our Standard bedrooms, the service from our staff and our valet parking service. We do have an amazing location, right by the York Minster, but one of the downsides to it is that some of our front facing rooms in the first floor can get a bit of noise from the street, specially over the weekend. I would recommend any light sleepers considering staying with us over the weekend to request a room at the back of the hotel before you arrive, or at least on a second or third floor if having a room at the front is important to you. Our apologies about the breakfast, I have passed your comments to our chef in order to implement improvements. We hope to see you again on your next visit to York, Kind regards, Federico Martinez. Guest Care Manager.

This hotel is in an ideal spot for sight seeing, the cathedral can be seen from the windows of the hotel and the staff are friendly and helpful, the breakfast at £12 each is not cheap but it was delicious. However, sadly despite the covid 19 regulations and restrictions we do not think it warrants a five star rating. We were not aware until we arrived that the evening restaurant was not functioning, so there is no evening meals or a la carte lunches. In the current climate one needed to book a restaurant in advance, particularly at this time of year. When you arrive you are given a piece of paper telling you that your room has been sanitized, but currently you have to ask at reception for your room to be serviced, your dirty cups to be replaced and your bin emptied and for extra tea bags and milk we would not expect this from a five star hotel. I expect that if you only stayed for one night that would be fine. You cannot park your car at the hotel, which is understandable due to the location, and the reception staff are very helpful and will park your car off site at a cost, but we had to pay £50 for three days parking. We felt that the bathroom needed an upgrade, the hot tap over the sink did not work, and there was mould around the bath edge. The stair carpet to the room and up the stairs was rather grubby. So overall we were a bit disappointed when it was supposed to be a five star hotel.

Dear Maria S Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. We have had to make some changes since coming out of lockdown and the restaurant reopening is something we cannot wait to happen, we have the information on our website and send out emails 3 days prior to arrival and as the last review states we also provide a list of contact details and recommendations of nearby restaurants which many of our guests have pre-booked before their arrival I am just sorry that you did not know about this in advance. We still have the full service available when it comes to cleaning rooms we are just asking our guests to arrange this at reception if they would want this as some of our guests particularly those that stay for just a day or two do not want our staff to enter their rooms, any top ups such as milk, tea bags etc can be delivered to your room at any time of day, you can just press 0 from your room or speak to any staff member you may see. We have made changes to the way operate for the safety of everyone concerned and I can only apologise if this has come across as confusing. All being well we can revert back to how we used to do things here soon and hopefully we do get the chance to welcome you back to our hotel again. Kind regards Steve Bailey General Manager

As regular visitors to York we haven’t found a bad accommodation yet but may just have found the best we’ve used. Dean Court is located literally over the road from York Minster and we were delighted to be upgraded to a room with a view of this magnificent building. Location wise this hotel is perfect, 10 minutes walk into the centre of York with a good selection of bars and restaurants within a view of the hotel.
We requested an early check in (1100) and this was accommodated no problem. The room, a deluxe queen, was very clean and comfortable with a huge comfy bed and a good selection of pillows available. Covid measures in the hotel were second to none and we felt very safe and secure with the precautions taken. The restaurant is only serving breakfast but this was excellent, plentiful, tasty and freshly prepared.
All staff we encountered from reception to the restaurant staff at breakfast were friendly, courteous and professional.
All in all a great short break and we already look forward to our next visit, hopefully when normality is returning to the world.
Thank you to all at Dean Court and best of luck to you during and following lockdown.

Enjoyed staying at this hotel we stayed in the deluxe double the room was very nice although the bathroom needed updating and I was disappointed to find for £199 plus breakfast there was no iron or ironing board in the room as I hadn’t ironed my clothes beforehand anticipating I could iron on arrival. Service was excellent though and the view of the Minster was nice and bed was very comfy and location was great too also the valet parking option made things a lot easier. That said next time we would stay at a cheaper hotel.

Had a overnight stay with my sister 2 to get away from everything and to just have a relaxing weekend and this hotel managed to do that for me. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff and on arrival they provided a valet car parking service which was bonus and at £20 was not too expensive as the location of the hotel allowed you to arrive, drop your bags and go straight into the heart of York Centre which was literally 1 min walk with no worries of parking charges.
We had an amazing view of York Cathedral ( room 28 ) and hearing the bells was just a joy to the ears.. considering we were right next door the chimes were not too loud. The room was spacious and clean and very comfortable.
They offered a great breakfast choice that would and did accommodate everyone's choices and also offered room service ( from the bar ) or you could sit and have deinks in the dining area with a small meal
Very organised with COVID restrictions applied
I would recommend this hotel if you wanted a central hotel with that little bit of luxury
Thank you the Dean Court Hotel we had a wonderful stay.

Dear EnglishRose01908 I'm so pleased that you and your sister managed to get a well deserved break in what has been such a challenging time. Despite the introduction of new measures and restrictions it has been imperative that we at the Dean Court Hotel continue to offer a relaxing, friendly and enjoyable stay to our guests, perhaps with the impact of this pandemic and the effect on the mental health on our society it is more important now that we deliver on this and to hear that we achieved this is fantastic to read. We wish you, your sister and your families all the very best for the future and hope to welcome you back to the hotel again, Thank you for choosing to stay at the Dean Court Hotel and for sparing your time to review this for the benefit of others. We stayed for one night with our daughter. We had a king and a single room - both were comfy and clean. The single did not have the greatest of view, however our room overlooked York Minster which was fab. The hotel felt very COVID safe and our room was sanitised before our arrival. We drove up to the hotel 1st thing and they stored our bags and parked our car and when we checked in later in the day the bags were in our rooms. The parking for the day we checked in and until 10pm on the day we checked out was £20 whihc we felt was very good. The staff are very friendly and I would most certainly stay again if in York.

Dear vjsue Thank you for choosing to stay at the Dean Court Hotel and for sharing your experience with others. We do have an ideal location and of the 40 bedrooms we have 23 of them are front facing with some having amazing views of the York minster. Whilst the ones at the back don't all have views of the neighbouring properties, in general they are considered quieter rooms which in normal times when the races are on and York is busy can be a good thing. Its just one of the reasons we encourage our guests to book directly with us at the hotel, we can talk to our guests about the different room options we have and by booking direct you are talking to the staff that know each of individual and unique bedrooms. Thank you also for mentioning our Covid measures, It is important that our guests feel safe with what we have introduced as well as having an enjoyable time. We are really pleased to hear that you would choose to stay with us again and we look forward to welcoming you back in the future. Kind regards Steve Bailey

Stayed for 3 nights in October for my partners 40th Birthday.
From the check-in to check-out we couldnt fault the staff or the hotel.
Check in was smooth and swift. We were assisted to the room with our bags and the car was valet parked for a resonable price.
The room (Langley Suite) was great. I dont think its possible to get a room closer to the Minster. Amazing views of the Minster from the 2 large windows and even from the bathroom! The bathroom was very nice with a decent shower and bath.
Plenty of nice touches in the room. From the free minibar (softdrinks), coffee machine and L'Occitane toiletries. These touches really helped make it feel like a nice hotel.
The breakfast was very nice. No buffet due to Covid but a very good menu and you could have as much as you like. The attentive staff were always willing to bring more coffee, juice or anything else needed. The tables were well spaced.
Would definitley stay here again without as doubt.
Massive thanks to all the staff for making it a weekend to remember.

Dear CastleA Thank you for taking the time to write a review after your stay at the Dean Court Hotel celebrating your partners 40th birthday. The Langley Suite in which you stayed is often regarded as the best room in the hotel and with the addition of complimentary mini bar items, Nespresso machines and additional luxury toiletries as well as that enviable view it is no surprise that this is sometimes the case. Reading over your review, it certainly seems that we contributed to a great stay in York and we at the hotel hope to welcome you back again in the near future. Kind regards Steve Bailey

This hotel is very well presented and gives you a feeling of luxury. We stayed in one of the rooms with the baths which made the stay feel special. The room itself was spacious and had everything you could need. The only downside of our stay was our shower which was broken meaning the water was flowing out from the head, unfortunately we only stayed the one night and it was late when we used the shower meaning it wasn’t worth mentioning it to reception at this time. The breakfast was tasty and service was great. On arrival to the hotel we used the parking valet service which is a great addition to this hotel as the location is perfect for exploring the city, with the minster on the doorstep and restaurants and bars within walking distance. The parking service was £20 which was good value when you literally jump in and out of your car with no hassle. All in all we would definitely stay in this hotel again and the staff were all very pleasant and helpful!
