We may have discovered our new London “ go to” hotel. Our usual place was booked out & we decided to try out The Morton based on other Trip Advisors reviews. What a great decision. So conveniently located, close to Russell Square tube station plus walking distance to the British Museum, Foundling Museum, Charles Dickens Museum and even an easy stroll to Trafalgar Square. The room was on the 4th floor, room 45 & it was spotlessly clean, beautifully decorated and the sizes of the room and bathroom were surprisingly large by London standards. We like being able to open the windows for fresh air and being 4th floor, any street noise was minimal. Very comfortable bedding, pillows and the towels were large, soft and fluffy. Air conditioning was available too. Extremely helpful front reception staff who found us a phone charger & delivered it to the room. The reception area is on the basement level and is a delightful space to relax. If you are a Virginia Woolf lover, as I am, you will love the decoration in the Bloomsbury style. All in all, a lovely place to stay in London.

Booked two rooms, one for my wife and me, one for my teenagers (17, 18). We have been to London several times, but this was our first stay at The Morton. It was our children's first trip here, and the focus of the trip was tourism. It ended up being the absolute perfect hotel for both my wife and I as seasoned travelers and the children as newbies.

The rooms are simply appointed but provide everything you need. My wife and I ended up getting one of the fifth floor apartments with a kitchenette, which was a lovely convenience without much extra cost. The rooms were clean, comfortable, and quiet. The smaller scale of the place is ideal in another respect as well: the large tour groups with a dozens students, etc. stayed elsewhere, which made our stay a far more peaceful experience than one often gets when traveling to major international cities or places like New York or D.C.

The bathrooms are well-equipped with toiletries, body washes, shampoos, and the like. They've thought of everything you might need. It's a rare air-conditioned hotel in London, which was most welcome given the recent heatwave.

The location is absolutely perfect. Right across from the Russell Square tube station with easy access to Euston, King's Cross, and St. Pancras. It's on the Piccadilly Line, which means you can take tube directly from Heathrow here without transferring. It's right next to the British Museum. There was nowhere we needed to go, including the big tourist attractions closer to the river, Camden Town, Highgate, Kensington, etc. that wasn't easily and quickly reached.

The staff was wonderfully accommodating. The price is quite reasonable, with a quality of stay one would usually pay much more for in the larger hotels.

If you expect the large Hilton/Hyatt sort of experience this may not be your cup of tea, but if you love simple, quiet, elegant, and convenient lodgings or prefer the boutique experience, The Morton is a fantastic choice. We will certain come back here the next time we're in London.

My husband and I stayed here for 3 nights. We have stayed in Bloomsbury several times but this was our first time at the Morton. It’s a perfect base, close to King’s Cross and 2 minutes walk from Russell Square tube station.
The staff are friendly and very helpful and the hotel has everything you need at a really good price.
We had a room on the 5th floor at the back, so it was really quiet.
Lovely toiletries were provided and bottled water was topped up everyday.
We made the bed ourselves, as we like things tidy and noticed this was left as we made it, not a problem as I like that the essentials are done but nothing more, you’re not paying extra for things you don’t need.
Breakfast is available at £10 each ordered the night before by a menu card, but we didn’t use this, it seemed very good value though.
Would definitely stay again.

Great place for us to stay. We stayed 2 Nights at this hotel. The check in was very smooth greeted by a friendly smile of welcome from Rafe who explained how to get to our room ,10 out of 10 for welcoming us to the Hotel .Best things about this Hotel,
1 Location Location Russel square underground very close so we could explore this wonderful city big plus it’s on the Heathrow Line to get to the Airport Piccadilly line.
2 Plenty of places to eat for Breakfast Lunch and tea close by, we recommend Noxys across the road on the corner for great coffee and Bagels for breakfast.
3 We found we could walk easily to a lot of Touristy places from our Hotel if you are in to walking and taking in the sites on the way ,places we walked to included Piccadilly Circus, Travalgar Square Convent garden and The Embankment.
4 Our room had a comfortable bed great lighting as you could turn the main light off from the bed as well as lamps by the bed.I love to read so I have to have that lamp.
5 Huge bathroom with Bath and shower in one,all bathroom soaps provided shower cap toothbrush’s and slippers and Bathrobes, towels white and fluffy and face clothes provided.
6 Our room was on Level three and towards the back read about this in a review on this website to get a quiet room ask for it and I did! Great nights sleep very quiet ,our view was of the building next door but we weren’t in the room for a view so that was fine by us also they had windows you could open up in our room and Bathroom.
7 Our room had coffee and tea provided and a coffee machine and biscuits and hot chocolate too ,wonderful, a fridge with 2 bottles of water provided of which we bought some cold drinks from the local Tesco store that was close by so we could enjoy a night cap or two before going out and afterwards.
8 At the reception which on arrival you go down on the lift to the ground floor they stored our luggage while we explored a little more before heading to the Airport great service!!
9. Bustop more or less right out side the hotel.
10. Thoroughly enjoyed out stay here at Morton Hotel and highly recommend this hotel to everyone !

Stayed 4 nights with relative (2 rooms, each single occupation of twin room.) OK clean but no vacuuming, emptying of wastebaskets or clean/replacement cups or glasses. Staff merely is trained to slightly rinse the cups, glasses in the bathroom sink & wipe with a previously used cloth. Pretty awful, considering the bragging about all COVID precautions have been followed. Had to ask several persons for extra towels. Housekeeper stated one person had not shown up for work.... does that mean that there are only two housekeepers? Room was not cleaned on a daily basis. Breakfast is scanty, flat rate 10 pounds but only toast or muffin and cold cereal, with coffee or tea. (no refills) Made by an electric automat style server (powdered coffee) for espresso, cappochino, black, or white. One beleaguered person at the "desk" by the bar to answer questions, check guests in/out. Pleasant persons but really busy at the important times for the size of the hotel. Cannot even give this 3 1/2 stars, the rating is wrong, wrong. Yes, it has an elevator, a bar, but nothing else to say service. Bathroom cosmetics do not warrant making The Morton Hotel a 4 Star property. Not stair-free entry or any wheelchair ramp from street.

The location is very convenient, seconds away from a tube station, surrounded by quiet squares and inexpensive student eateries. The bathrooms are excellent. But the service at the front desk is very changeable—some members are tremendously friendly and some could not be less so—and it’s important to know in advance that you will be charged 10 pounds a day (in cash) if you wish to store your luggage between stays, no adaptors are available and an early check-in (even after a long trans-Atlantic flight) can be a real battle. We stayed here four times in three months recently and never knew whether we’d be greeted by the warmest of smiles or unusually surly brusqueness and hostility.

We were very happy to stay at the Morton hotel. The reception was very friendly and helptul. The first thing we noticed upon entering the hotel was the wonderful fragrance of the hallways. Our room was at the back so nice and quiet and larger than other London hotels we have stayed at in the past. It was spotless and comfortable. I really appreciated the Nespresso machine and daily supply of Walkers biscuits. Fresh milk for the coffee and bottled water was supplied daily as well. The shower was nice and big with a huge shower head and oodles of hot water. The only thing I found disappointing was the bed. Mind you, I'm very fussy about matresses and found this one to be a bit too firm. My husband had no idea what I was talking about and said he slept great! The bed linen was comfy as well as the pillows. Having said that, we were so tired from walking all over the area that we collapsed into our bed at night. The location was fantastic. Very close to Russell square station and walking distance to the British Museum, Soho and lots of other places of interest. We had breakfast one day in the lounge area was a little disappointing but there was a problem with the fridge that morning so that may have caused the problem. The coffee was fantastic and the decor of the lounge was amazing. We would love to stay there again when we go back to London.

Dear luvmaui40 Thank you for taking the time to leave a review about your recent stay at the Morton Hotel. From your comments it would seem that apart from the slight issue at breakfast (you are correct, we had a fridge malfunction on us during the night) everything in the hotel was to your liking. We have now installed high quality mattress toppers so hopefully the bed will not be too hard for you on your next visit. Your comments have been passed onto the whole team and they look forward to welcoming you back again soon.

My wife booked the Morton Hotel for a five-night stay to allow us to enjoy the Jubilee celebrations and our 25th wedding anniversary. We chose this hotel based on excellent reviews. We were therefore surprised after returning to our room on the second day to find that no service was provided for the room (bed not made, etc.). We identified this to reception, and it was addressed. The same absence of in-room service occurred every day afterwards, and it was evident that there was a critical staff shortage. This was confirmed with reservation staff on the fourth day, with the admission that the single cleaning staff could only focus on the turnover of rooms.
In fairness, the hotel is very nice, and the room and bed were comfortable and quiet. We also know that unexpected staffing shortages can occur. The issue to us, is that there was no effort by management or staff to inform guests, or to proactively offer any compensation for what was undeniably a sub-par level of service at a quality hotel. After not seeing the manager during our stay, I emailed Mr Smith on our departure on 6 June to express our dissatisfaction, but never received a response.

I have to start by saying that the staff we came across were all very pleasant but when we arrived just after 4 , bearing in mind the room should have been available from 2,we were given our room key and by the time we had arrived at level 1 where our room was the young gentleman from reception had rushed up the stairs to tell us that our room wasn’t ready and apologised and said it would be 1 minute. 15 minutes later, after standing outside the room with our luggage the room was apparently ready. Not too sure about that, used towel hanging on the back of the bathroom door and no bath mat. However the room was decent, although the lighting was very dim. You are asked to leave towels on the floor if you want them changed, standard practice these days, but you have to guess when they’re going to be in your room to check this. On the third day we had to ask for fresh towels and we were given one hand towel and one bath towel. Room cleaned once in the 5 days we were there, definitely not what I’d expect for the price paid for this hotel.

Dear Wendy Thank you for taking the time to leave a review about your recent visit to the hotel. Firstly, apologies that your room was not ready upon arrival. It would appear that my housekeeping failed on this occasion and i can assure you this is not normal practice here at the Morton hotel. The team pride themselves in delivering outstanding customer service in all areas of the hotel and it would seem that we missed it on your visit. If you would like to contact me directly in order to discuss and put amends to any shortfall.

The hotel is in a wonderful location just down the street from Russell Square tube station and a short walk from the British Museum. The room was very large and had plenty of amenities -- robes, small fridge, coffee and tea maker with selections refreshed daily, iron and ironing board, etc. The small desk area was perfect for getting ready in the morning. The bathroom was also very spacious and plenty small kits (shaving, toothbrush & paste, sewing, shower caps) were provided. The cat-themed wallpaper and rugs throughout the hotel were a cute touch. The elevator was also appreciated. There are plenty of restaurants and grocery stores in the streets around the hotel as well. The only negative I can think of was if you are being dropped off by car, it can be very difficult to find a place to stop due to the hotel being along a very busy street. That's a minor quibble for such a nice, spacious room in a very central London location!

The Morton Hotel offers a continental breakfast menu which has a good choice of options including pancakes and fruit and the prices vary depending on what you order but we found it to be good value for money for Central London. You can order breakfast with reception when you check in, the night before or on the day itself. Please contact the hotel direct for a sample menu.

The building is very secure. When you walk into the building, you may use the elevator to go down to the front desk, but otherwise access is restricted without a keycard. You need a keycard to take the elevator to any other floor or access the stairs.
