Not just a old style....old, bad maintenance, squeaky floors, holes under the carpet in the corridors, very small rooms, curtains full of dust, bathrooms small but upgraded, reception dirty old furniture, not well presented WiFi have to be paid apart and does not work properly at the rooms. Staff very unprofessional sleeping at the desk. Kitchen staff very rude and unprofessional all the spanish speaking ones, eat and joking when we having breakfast and offending and talking bad about the clients(I do speak English and spanish) breakfast should be serving from 7 am, always late, and breakfast quiet basic or poor, the only hot food was boiled eggs, juice bad quality and one of the days juice was off, every day for 6 days same breakfast.

We were given a basement room so could hear everything above us. The store room was next to our room so very early we could hear cleaners dragging and banging. We could not open curtains as other room windows were facing ours. The bed was comfy but only one soft pillow. Bathroom is small and shower is just ok. Breakfast is cereal, brown or white toast, juice, tea/coffee/ shop bought croissants(not freshly made) or yogurt. Check out is 11am and at 10.55 room phone rang and we were abruptly told check out, I hardly had phone put down when cleaner came in. Man who checked us in and out was not very friendly.

Room was on the top floor which was a lot of steps to climb on a night after a day of walking! Dirty plaster under the bed and tea stains on the wall. Not many TV channels and Wi-Fi did not reach the room. Headboard was peeling and cigarette burn in the top quilt/sheet. Room was boiling and fan made little difference. Only got one keycard too for two people. We stayed in a superior double which had a double and a single. It's in desperate need of updating.

Breakfast was decent to say it was included, toast, croissants, ham and cheese, jam, cereal, butter and vegan spread available. No milk alternative out but did not ask. Juice, water, tea, coffee and hot chocolate too but the cups were tiny!

For the price in London, near Hyde Park and a 10 minute walk from Oxford street it is still an alright place to stay if you just want a bed to sleep in for a few nights but nothing spectacular.

I recently returned from a 7 night stay at this hotel and felt compelled to add my positive comments to other reviewers who felt the same.

I spent many years in the travel industry so went on my trip with an open mind especially after having read some negative reviews.

ALL staff were polite and professional, from the gentlemen on reception to the hardworking, diligent staff in the dining room. I also wish to say a special thank you to the wonderful lady who cleaned our room who my friend and I met at the end of our stay. The jewel in the crown of the Alexandra Hotel in my opinion and that of my travelling companion is without doubt the staff.

Thank you one and all, we will definitely be returning!

Few points that may help in deciding whether this hotel is for you are…

Our room was of reasonable size, recently renovated, and had all the amenities you would expect.

Bath with overhead shower and hot water at ALL times. This is something that I have found lacking in a number of London hotels in which I have stayed.

Comfortable beds which weren’t on wheels, we requested extra pillows which were in our room the next day.

Tea/coffee facilities which were replenished daily.

Large fan mounted on wall which we were grateful for as it was very warm during our stay.

TV

Hairdryer

Plenty of wardrobe, cupboard and drawer space.

Excellent location being only a few minutes walk from the station.

Variety of restaurants within a few minutes walk, for those who enjoy Mediterranean cuisine check out the Paramount Lebanese Kitchen on London Street, excellent food, well priced!

Finally, although there is no storage room as such the hotel has an area at the side of reception desk where luggage can be stored. We took advantage of this without any problem.

There was a wifi connection error that we tried to talk to the staff about however when we did, they were rude and abrasive telling us that they are not obligated to provide wifi since it’s “free” and that no one else complained about the wifi meaning they can’t do anything. This was a a complete lie, reading up on previous reviews a lot of previous guests have had the same problem with the wifi connection and they have never fixed it. Even though the location is nearby to paddington station and there a lot of available locations in walking distance, you’re better off spending your money at a better hotel with proper service. All in all bad experience at the hotel. Since they were not obligated to fix our internet issues we are not obligated give this trash hotel a good review.

I booked this hotel for a four day break taking in the England v Wales rugby.
The first room I was offered was somewhere in the 'Gods' which required a lift and two series of steps to get to it, I refused this and was given another twin bedded room on the ground floor.
This appeared acceptable until the night when other guests tramping to and from their rooms became noisy and annoying
The first morning shower was in a shower cubicle with an ill fitting door that did not close properly, however the heating wasn't working properly, second and third day no heating or hot water for a shower, after futile protests about the situation to a totally pathetic front desk attendant it was obvious nothing was going to be done to resolve the situation.
Breakfasts were not appetising, old pre-prepared toast with plastic cheese and ham? Tepid coffee not an appetising event
I decided to cut short my stay on pulling back the bed sheets after a cold evening I discovered th urine stained mattress cover
I was extremely glad to be out of this hotel

We stayed here for 2 nights while seeing a show in London. The hotel was in a good location with shops, bars and restaurants just minutes away and Hyde park close too.

Our room was at the front and the road was quite busy and noisy all through the night. There was a fan on the wall, so we closed the window and put that on, but it was even louder than the traffic. The room was compact, but clean and nicer than in the photos. The bed was very comfortable. The TV was constantly breaking up and losing signal, making it unwatchable. It was a smart TV but the WiFi wasn’t good enough to allow you to log on to Netflix etc. Careful of the shower as it would suddenly get very hot, or cold, without you touching the controls.

The man on reception wasn’t the friendliest of hotel receptionists. Not very chatty or smiley - no pleasantries like “have a nice stay” when checking us in or anything like that.

Sadly breakfast was pretty poor. There was cereal, toast, croissants and slices of cheese and ham. They only had full fat milk (blue top) for the cereal - no milk alternatives. If you’re vegan you’re going to struggle because the only non dairy product was toast - with nothing vegan to go on it.

Stayed for 4 nights with my teen son. Perfect price/value ratio.
Close to Paddington station, just around 4 min straight walk, clean, friendly staff, short circuit I've made tn the first 3 min in the room was fixed in 2 hours, very satisfying continental breakfast.
The only cons are tiny rooms, little bit shabby some furniture and lift that doesn't come to each floor - may be a problem for somebody in not well enough fitness condition. That's why 4 points and not 5

As with all budget (but still expensive) hotels in London the room was small but did have a nice shower room. All in all a nice hotel although a little tired with the décor.
Breakfast was OK but nothing special. Location near public transport and available parking was excellent

Perfect for a short stay, rooms small but clean. Hotel is dated but it is in central london ideally located next to tube. Breakfast was included but very basic cold boiled eggs, cereal, toast and croissants. For price it was just what we needed somewhere to lay your head down for sightseeing, I’d definitely use hotel again for a 1 or 2 night stay

Best to contact the hotel and pre book a parking space. We were allocated a space across the road and it cost £10 per night.
