Situated on London’s lively South Bank, Ruby Lucy rubs shoulders with some of the city’s lesser-known cultural gems. From theatres, galleries and concert halls to independent shops and a wide variety of restaurants, the area buzzes with ever-changing artistic flair and creativity. A ten-minute stroll will take you to the Thames and the London Eye, from where Big Ben, Westminster, Buckingham Palace, Trafalgar Square and Covent Garden are a short walk or bus ride across the river. For shopaholics, Piccadilly Circus and Oxford Street are a few quick stops from Waterloo, while foodies should make a beeline for Borough Market, which is just three minutes away by tube. Waterloo station is a three-minute walk away, and with mainline trains, four tube lines, buses and boats at hand, it’s easy to reach any corner of the city. Both Gatwick and Heathrow airports are around 40 minutes away by train or tube.

We spent three days here because the location was convenient (steps from Waterloo) and there was a good deal on Secret Escapes. I was a bit apprehensive as there were limited reviews because the hotel is new! I needn’t have worried as we loved Ruby Lucy and I think it will now become our ‘go to’ hotel in London!

Check in was easy, quick and friendly. My partner arrived early and was able to leave his luggage no problem.

Our room was designated ‘cosy’ so I was expecting it to be tiny but it was perfectly big enough for the two of us and larger than some I’ve been allocated in London hotels! The space has been used very sensibly and everything we needed for a three night stay was available either in the room or in the galley area of the corridor. Communal spaces are dark and atmospheric but the room was bright and very clean.
The Marshall speakers were excellent quality and the lighting was good (and adjustable) too.
The water and lights stop working if the key card isn’t in which is a great way of reducing waste. You’d need two keys though if you aren’t together all the time.

The bar area was really nice. Perfect for a night cap but also for a long lingering breakfast! The coffee was excellent and so was the bread! I meant to find out where that comes from so I can pick some up to take home next time I’m in town!

A word on soundproofing - our room was 301 on the third floor and extremely quiet. I suspect higher rooms at the back of the hotel are quieter so you might want to request one if that’s a concern for you. We are both light sleepers and weren’t bothered by noise.

All the staff we encountered were friendly and helpful, taking time to say hello and making sure we had everything we needed.

We had a really lovely stay and I’m sure we’ll be back soon! Thanks for having us!

Lovely little hotel very close to waterloo so really handy. As a couple on a theatre trip we only stayed one night and this hotel was good for that. 25-30 minutes walk to theatre land which is ok if you don’t mind a walk, if you want to be closer you’d probably have to pay more for a hotel closer.

A quirky little hotel which as it is fairly new (especially as there was the covid lock down), it is clean and tidy if a little small which is why I only give it a 4 star rating. There isn’t much storage so if you are looking to stay more than a few nights you might struggle or have to live out of your suit case.

The shower arrangement is a little strange but it was adequate for what it is. You enter into the toilet to get into the shower and it is all glass, shower curtain on the outside to spare your modesty if you need it. The shower itself is good with a rainfall shower as well as a detachable head for those women who don’t want to wash their hair. The hand basin is in the bedroom though meaning you have to come out of the toilet to wash your hands and then you can make the bedroom floor damp if you’re not careful.

But where else can you borrow a guitar, take it to your room and play it?!?! Nice touches with an amp and blue tooth speaker in the old 60 style speakers.

Overall for the price you really can’t go wrong, it is better than a premier in as there is some atmosphere especially as the bar is also open 24/7.

We stayed on the 4th floor overlooking waterloo station. So the room was quiet, occasional person going around the corridor/bedroom doors closing but you get that everywhere. Ask for a room higher than the 1st floor and you should be ok, especially if you are at the back not over looking the street.

I would stay again as it is worth it for the price, especially as london isn’t a cheap place to stay.

Room Tip: Got for a high floor at the back facing the station to avoid noise, away from the lifts.

This hotel is fab, loved the location. Staff were helpful and friendly from the moment we walked through the door. The hotel was spotless and the rooms were quirky but beautiful, i had the best nights sleep the hotel is in a great location, the street was alive with bars and restaurants, but even though we had a street facing room, we could not hear a thing. We intend to return very soon

We were exciting to visit this new bar in lower marsh this week. This sleek and very stylish bar is way more soho than lower marsh; a welcome break to the norm in that area.

We went to order drinks at the bar but were told to sit down and someone would come to us. The waitress didn’t reflect the sleek nature of the bar in her slightly tatty, slight ill fitting attire but that didn’t bother us, we were just pleased to have found such a lovely bar in the area.

We ordered a bottle of wine (reasonable compared to a g&t) and the waitress plonked wine glasses on the table and left our bottle of wine in a cooler on the floor next to us. Ok so we can pour our own wine, not a problem..

And then it came to the bill.. we asked the waitress for our bill which she gladly brought to us but got very stroppy when we wanted to split the bill between the four of us and insisted we paid at the bar because she could not do this at the table. Again, not a problem but we could have done without the abrupt attitude.
When we got to the bar we received 4 bills and on going to pay we realised there was a discretionary 12.5% added to the bill.. Ah so that’s why we were encouraged to sit down rather than order at the bar. I’m all up for tipping, for food and great service but begrudge it on drinks and a lack of service.

I politely asked if the discretionary service charge could be removed from the bill in which the waitress replied ‘was my service really that bad’. I apologised and explained that I didn’t like paying such a tip on one glass of wine I was happy to order at the bar. The waitress then became very rude which made me pleased I didn’t pay the service charge in the first place.

Such a shame for such a seemingly very cool and trendy bar.

I chose to stay at this hotel based on the proximity to Waterloo station and didn’t expect much. However, I was pleasantly surprised by all that the Ruby Lucy Hotel had to offer.

I loved how efficient the check in via iPad was, all registered online and all details were already pre-filled in. From reception to room literally took less than 2minutes.

The atmosphere at the bar during the evening was fantastic. The friendly waiters kept the vibe joyous yet professional. The cocktails were fantastic.

The breakfast was a little dear at £16 but the quality of the products on offer were first rate. I especially loved the guacamole and smoked salmon.

Last but not least, I slept extremely well in the bedroom. The room was just at the right temperature and the mattress and bed linen felt luxurious.

One small change I would make is to provide more desk space in the bedroom. There was very little space to put my laptop down and do some work.

We booked three rooms with balconies for a family overnight stay in London for our daughter’s birthday.

We wanted a hotel that was a bit different and was in a good location and Ruby Lucy certainly didn’t disappoint. It’s in a great location close to Waterloo station and on a nice street with a lot of independent bars and restaurants. We booked parking at the National Theatre which was great value for money, secure and only a 10 minute walk from the hotel..

The hotel is beautifully fitted out, the downstairs reception, bar and restaurant area is really funky and very welcoming. The rooms we had are absolutely stunning, they’re ultra modern, have great views with good sized balconies and were spotlessly clean. We all said that the beds were the comfiest we have ever experienced.

The staff, without exception, were super friendly, efficient and helpful and we really got the impression that they care about their guests. Before we visited we emailed a couple of times with questions and got prompt and very friendly responses. For the location and facilities the hotel is great value for money.

The only negative from our side was that we only booked for one night as we would love to have stayed longer. We’ll definitely visit again and would unreservedly recommend the Ruby Lucy to anyone visiting London.

The Ruby Lucy Hotel is the Best unknown Gem in London, We stayed at the Ruby Lucy, London Hotel before and after we sailed on a Royal Caribbean Cruise of Scotland and Northern Ireland. We arrived 3 days before our cruise to sightsee in London. We liked the hotel so much, we made reservations to stay there after our cruise for 4 more days!
The rooms were comfortable and clean, the bed was warm and cozy. The staff was friendly and very attentive. It is not your usual hotel, the theme here is "Lean Luxury" quality rooms at reasonable prices. It was a few minutes walk to Waterloo Station with the Underground, Train, bus and Taxis readily available. The most interesting part of the hotel was its location on Lower March Road. Every day on Monday to Friday there was a pop up open air Lunch stalls set up on the street in front of the Hotel. The street is closed to traffic making it pedestrian friendly, and 18-20 food stalls would offer food from around the world. It was delicious. There were also several restaurants and pubs in the neighborhood that offered a variety of foods for Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner.
The staff was another gen of the Ruby Lucy, Always kind, courteous and professional, They also double as the bartender and waitress as there is no lobby, per se. The downstairs area is eclectic in its furnishings, no two chairs are alike, but they are comfortable and great for people watching out the large windows. When we return to London, the Ruby Lucy London will be our base for seeing the sights of London!

Perfect hotel for a night out in London. Lovely modern room toiletries and large bath towels a nice touch. There is a gallery where you can get a cup of tea for your room and borrow an iron. Staff very friendly and bar staff informative on drinks. Can’t fault our stay would recommend

On arrival I was really pleased with the hotel, the staff were polite and the general ambience around the bar area (which anyone can go to, you don’t need to be a hotel guest) was great, nice lighting and the cocktail menu was broad.
There is self-check in on a screen which worked fine, although I personally prefer to be checked in by a member of staff.
The size of the standard room was good, although minimal storage for clothes but that’s OK for a 1 night stay. The room was clean and had some nice touches to it. The sink was in the room which doesn’t bother me, but there is no privacy when showering. Whoever you’re sharing a room with can see you naked which isn’t ideal for privacy, you can also hear the other person going to the toilet.
There was a bright green “night light” that was shining through into the bedroom all night which interfered keeping the bedroom dark. The bed was SO uncomfortable, I didn’t sleep at all, constantly tossing and turning which was a huge shame as it looked comfortable.
I don’t think I could stay again given the fact I couldn’t sleep because the bed was so poor.

Hi elephantgirl123, Thanks so much for the review. Sorry to hear that you didn't enjoy the overall stay with us that much. We're still in the opening phase of our hotel and not everything is running smoothly yet, which is why we're offering the rooms at a great price. We will forward your feedback to our team and will work incessanty on improving our service quality further. Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts. Sorry to hear that our self check-in wasn't your cup of tea. As part of our Lean Luxury philosophy, we try to make things quicker and simpler with the help of technology, but there’s always a friendly human around to help if need be. Due to our unique room layouts very few of them do not have a wardrobe, that's right. However, they're equipped with hooks as well as a rack for your suitcase, allowing you to access your clothes even without a proper wardrobe. If this aspect of your room is really important to you, next time you book a stay with us, just let us know in the comment section below your booking and we'll assign you a room that definitely has a wardrobe. We put great value on high-quality materials for a great sleep and room experience and so we are sorry to hear that we could not meet your expectations and it wasn’t your taste. We hope you understand and will give us a second chance some time. Your Ruby Lucy Team

I have to say having recently stayed at the Ruby Marie in Vienna I eagerly anticipated the launch of the Ruby Lucy in London. I was not disappointed!
This is the coolest, most stylish and cosiest little hotel on the Southbank. It has immediate charm, you are greeted with a wonderful aroma bespoke to the hotel. The staff are incredibly helpful and so kind. I was blown away. The rooms are quite intimidate and feature large beds, Marshall amps, high-speed Wi-Fi and your own personal tablet in every room. It’s fresh, chic for bed and breakfast was £119 for one night!
Breakfast is very traditionally Austrian/German. Lots of fresh bread, cheeses meats and tons of muesli. No cooked breakfast unfortunately but they have hard/ soft boiled eggs. It’s in enforced healthy living but very tasty.
The cocktail bar is fabulous and the menu is extensive! They are mixed by proper bar people who want to get to know you and chat. I couldn’t be happier with it and couldn’t recommend it enough.

Well done to the Ruby chain. Loving the Empire and loving the philosophy. I will endeavour to visit all of your lovely restaurants in time.

Why not contact the hotel staff direct and ask. They were extremely helpful and open. Or why not go onto the Ruby Lucy brand web page itself. They might give you a clue.
