St Giles London Hotel sits at the heart of the city, a location that guests have called out for its convenience for exploring London, despite some noise complaints. While the cleanliness of the rooms often earns praise, opinions on the hotel's value are mixed, with concerns over high prices and additional service costs. Although the staff is commended for being friendly and helpful, the atmosphere and rooms are frequently described as outdated and in need of a refresh. Travelers looking for modern amenities may find the hotel's offerings to be lacking.

I spent four nights in this hotel during the Coronation week, and at that time there were not many hotels left that had rooms available at acceptable prices. Despite its central location, the St. Giles still had rooms at an acceptable price (for London standards). A friend who came with me had stayed in this hotel several times and recommended it.
I had booked one of the new single rooms. It was very small (but I knew that beforehand), but very modern, very clean and comfortable, as was the bathroom. The shower had very good water pressure.
The room has enough power sockets, a TV, a safe, a hair dryer, a small desk, Kleenex etc. Not so much storage space. My room was relatively quiet as it was not directly on the street. The bed was very comfortable and the WIFI was good.
Overall it was a good experience. The hotel is very centrally located (close to Oxford Street and Tottenham Court Rd tube station), there are many shops and restaurants in the area. Very friendly staff both at reception and in the breakfast room, and the staff who cleaned the rooms were also very nice. Breakfast was good.
Contrary to what previous reviews said, housekeeping was done every day. However, I also hung the "Please clean room" sign on the door every morning.
Of the four lifts in the hotel, one was out of service due to renovation work. Sometimes you had to wait a long time for a lift to come. If your room is not on the top floor and you don't have any luggage, the stairs are the better option.
One night at 1:25 a.m. the fire alarm went off, everyone had to evacuate the hotel through the rather narrow stairwell, many in their pajamas... Before I left the room, I called reception twice to ask if it was an accidental fire alarm, but no one answered. When I was almost downstairs, I got a message saying that the fire alarm had gone off accidentally (according to other guests, someone had taken an extremely hot shower, which caused the alarm to go off) and we were allowed to go back to our rooms. Because of the large number of people in the stairwell and elevators, it took a full 40 minutes to get back to our rooms. As you can see from the reviews, the fire alarm goes off quite often by accident, which is obviously very unpleasant for guests in the middle of the night.
All in all, a very good experience, apart from the false fire alarm.

Overall, the St Giles Hotel is clean, welcoming and a nice location in London. It’s not too far from Tottenham Court Road Underground station and is very close to Oxford Street. The signature double room we stayed in was welcoming however, the bed was very uncomfortable and neither of us had a good night’s sleep. The shower was powerful but adjusting the temperature wasn’t easy without it either being too cold or almost scalding hot.
Buffet breakfast was £12.95 each by pre-ordering the day before rather than £15 on the day and this had a good selection of cooked and continental options (best part of the breakfast was the scrambled egg). Customer service from the staff was ok however I was a little disappointed that I had to find out for myself about using the free WiFi after overhearing a conversation from another guest checking in and also ask what time breakfast was in the morning. This to me seems important information that should be provided to every guest when checking in by staff. So despite a couple of issues, we had enjoyed our stay at the St Giles but hopefully, should we stay again, we have a more comfortable bed.

Strong points: central London location, pleasant staff and concierge service.

Downsides: the shape of the hotel means that some rooms are very dark. Our room on the 1st floor overlooked one of the hotel walls with a small view of the building opposite (far from some photos). Impossible to open the window more than 10 cm for ventilation and impossible to open the slatted blind caught in the double glazing in order to provide more clarity. Do not sit or lie on the edge of the bed if you do not want to end up on the floor; odd.
As for breakfast....catastrophic. On the 1st day at around 9:15 a.m., 15 to 20 minutes of queuing in the lobby to get into the breakfast room (the bar restaurant) which is totally unsuitable to accommodate the guests of a hotel of this size. Once settled in a dark corner, you just have to manage to find something to eat because a lot of things are out of stock. No hot milk or anything to heat it, waiting in line several times for a chance to have scrambled eggs if you can manage it, personally, I gave up. You forget the photos with fried eggs, cheese, ham, hard-boiled eggs, sausages, fruit juice (carafes of a very clear and hyper-chemical juice). Empty carafes of water and pseudo juice on the 1st day. The staff seemed overwhelmed by the situation and were doing what they could. Less queue on the 2nd day because earlier but not better for the content, I didn't insist on certain dishes because I didn't want to waste time.

For certain other points not necessarily at the top in our opinion, we have made do because we adapt to the habits of each country that we can visit.

Apart from that, we spent 3 intense days discovering and rediscovering London with magnificent weather. Very pretty town, worth the trip.

I knew this hotel was classed as budget, based on the price, but looking at the photos online and the location we thought it was worth a go.
On checking in the receptionist immediately told us that he had upgraded our rooms to their new renovated bedrooms (he would have been better saying nothing 🙈) If these rooms were newly renovated, they needed a deep clean, soiled carpets, marks on the walls, limescale on the tap that certainly was a build up over time! If the rooms had been clean, then it certainly is worth the money paid, but they weren't unfortunately. Plus my mum and dad at breakfast asked for porridge, we were told they don't serve porridge, the image I saw pre booking tells different. The breakfast was actually rotten! Again the decor in the restaurant is lovely and modern, it's just not clean! My orange juice was definitely off, when I reported it, I was told to stir it up, it wasn't freshly squeezed orange juice it was definitely past the expiry. So unfortunately we went elsewhere for breakfast the next morning. As time was of the essence and we had so many things pre booked I never asked to change rooms as the upheaval for my mum and dad would have just left the trip more stressful. We have just learned a valuable lesson that yet again you get what you pay for. It's just a pity about the cleanliness as I would have went back for a short trip.

I booked this via Groupon as they had a special deal including breakfast and it was a lot cheaper than anywhere else I could book this hotel.
If I had paid full price I would be demanding a refund!

Staff on check in are great which is what the 1 star is for!

The room we booked was a double classic and was so small you could touch the walls, the bed is more like a small double so if you’re tall like I am you won’t be able to sleep comfortably as your head will touch the headboard and your feet hang off the end and it had a winter duvet and 2 pillows that were flat!
There’s no air conditioning! Just a poor overworked fan in a cupboard with exposed wires at the back from where it’s been wrapped around the fan for storage. We had a window which didn’t open much (safety as on 5th floor) we didn’t close it as it was too stuffy when it was closed so we also got no sleep because of all the noise from outside!
Be aware that you will hear horns and people 24/7 and one night we were woken at 2.30am by a horn that was blasting for around 20 mins, then another joined in!

Let’s move onto the bathroom, the toilet works and had a good flush, the paper is awfully thin and not suited for the job.
The basin has a push plug that doesn’t work very well, bring a flannel and a towel as the towels are tiny!
The shower had ok pressure but was a pain to get in and out of as there’s a big step in and the bifold door opens half way! As someone with mobility issues this was quite difficult to get in and out of safely.

Housekeeping came daily to redress the room but I don’t think they own a vacuum as the floors are dusty. They even came a 2nd time and I don’t know why as the room had been done! This was 4.30pm on the Sunday and we were napping as had a long night the night before. We weren’t expecting anyone to randomly open the door at that time! I still don’t know why they tried to come in but it made me question the safety of my belongings.

We ate breakfast in the VQ restaurant and breakfast was good, staff seem to be rushing around cleaning more than serving and it felt like nobody had a particular area that was theirs to clean and serve.
AVOID THE COFFEE! It’s vile and reminiscent of dishwater, the OJ is watered down by lots of ice when it’s there and although apple juice is on the menu in 3 days we didn’t see it once. The Cumberland sausage on the breakfast is the only positive on breakfast and contributes to my 1 star!

Overall I would never return here and would book premier inn or travel lodge where you get what you pay for and the rooms are better!!

The location of the hotel is indeed fantastic. It is within easy walking distance of numerous attractions and a tube station is conveniently situated less than two minutes walk away.

Upon arrival, I was greeted by beautifully decorated lobby and a warm welcome from the check-in staff. They kindly upgraded us to a newly renovated room, which was a pleasant surprise. The room was spacious, brightly lit and presentably done up.

Considering its central location, the tranquility was much appreciated, providing a peaceful oasis in the heart of the city. However, there were some areas that did let the overall experience down.

Regrettably, the beds were not up to the expected standard, their quality reminded me of ones you might find in a hostel - a black metal frame that creaked every time you moved. Moreover, I found the pillows had very poor quality, I would rate them as 1 out of 10. This unfortunately led to a poor night's sleep.

The bathroom was truly impressive, and the amenities in the room exceeded our expectations.

It's somewhat disappointing, given how well the renovations were coming along. If they had invested a tad more into providing better beds, it would have undeniably topped off the experience.

The hotel appears as worn down and outdated, with an atmosphere of past gloss.
The room was shockingly small. Hardly room to turn around, and with a suitcase it became almost impermeable. The furniture was worn and gave the impression of having been with since the hotel's opening. The cleaning was also nothing to boast of, with dust in the hooks and stains on the carpet.
But the worst was the price. For such a standard it was simply beyond expensive. There are countless hotels in London with better location, comfort and service for a much more affordable price.
Drive away from St Giles Hotel if you want value for money. There are many better options in London.

It’s hard to beat the location, right in the centre of town and so close to major shopping, tourism and business locations. The rooms range from quite basic to very comfortable and are priced accordingly. Staff are always in hand to assist and the restaurant offers a discount for guests staying at the hotel - I sometimes go there because dining solo can be a bit of an ordeal in some restaurants, but not there.

I do like the Giles due to location and prices when staying away .
We stayed there last week , and noticed the breakfast had gone up £5 per person and the drinks have gone up in the bar , the drinks were at least £15 plus for 2 drinks , which is why It was probably the reason why it was so quiet on the Friday and Saturday evening, where normally it’s very busy in there.
Surely it’s better to charge reasonable prices to keep the customers there, so you earn more money , rather than it being empty
The room we stayed was very old looking and a lot of damage to the room and the decoration was in need to change this dark and dingy room around .
Wouldn’t cost much to redecorate theses rooms .

The hotel was easy to find.
We arrived at 4.30pm and the check in was quick and efficient with a friendly staff member.
Our classic twin was on the 2nd floor and lifts were not busy though we did use the stairwell coming down which was clean and convenient.
Our room was clean and functional. The window opened and we could not hear the street below.
The room had extra blankets and pillows plus tea, coffee, soap bodywash in the shower and towels. The tv had freeview.
The beds were comfortable.
All in all a pleasant stay.
