Recently refurbished 4* Hotel in South Kensington London. Imagine an English country home magically whisked to the most exclusive London borough, and you have The Gainsborough. The London artist Sasha Bowles has incredibly decorated the lobby, taken inspiration from the elegance of Gainsborough’s paintings. To stay here is to enjoy London's fashionable South Kensington, Harrods, the restaurants and antique markets, pubs and delightful backwaters of Chelsea and Knightsbridge. You are at the heart of the capital's culture too with great museums - Science, Natural History, the Victoria & Albert - nearby; and for music lovers, the glorious Royal Albert Hall is just minutes away. The well-stocked lounge bar is the spot for a leisurely drink or a snack from the light menu. With 24-hour room service, butlers on immediate call and a reception ever ready to meet your needs, nothing is too much for our attentive staff.

The Gainsborough Hotel comes highly recommended for its exceptional service, with many guests lauding the staff's friendliness and professionalism. While some visitors have experienced issues with room amenities and maintenance, the overall cleanliness and modern touch of the rooms are well-regarded. The atmosphere of the hotel is inviting, complemented by well-designed spaces. Although the hotel lacks certain in-room amenities and offers off-site breakfast, its prime location near key attractions and transport links makes it a favorable choice for travelers, who find the pricing to be reasonable.

I've just returned from spending four nights here. Originally my daughter and I booked into single rooms as she needed to have space and quiet to work. They are good value for the price but obviously very small and the shower is so minuscule its difficult to use. However everything was spotlessly clean. When there was an electricity malfunction in my room, I was immediately moved to another room which as luck would have it was bigger and extremely nice. I cannot praise the staff enough for their friendliness and efficiency particularly Stephanie. The hotel is next to the big French Lycée so its advisable if possible to get a room above the 2nd floor but be aware there is tiny, very slow lift. Good stairs for the nimble though! The only negatives were no safes in the rooms and the only room service is pizza delivered from their sister hotel opposite. With the plethora of cafes, restaurants and food stores in the area this is not an issue. Basic breakfast is available in your room if you want but there are so many divine French bakeries in the area its no problem. For location I would definitely stay there again. Walking distance to Knightsbridge, museums, Kensington Gardens etc. Fabulous.

I stayed here for 4 nights in a double room and would give the hotel 5 stars for location - it’s less than 5 mins from South Kensington tube station (Piccadilly, Circle, District Lines), close to several buses and very close to the Natural History Museum, Victoria and Albert Museum, Kensington Park etc. - really incredibly convenient. It’s a lovely neighbourhood as well with lots of cute restaurants and shops. I was glad I booked a double room, it was spacious, clean, with a big window and desk and a comfy bed. They provide water every day, and there’s a kettle in the room as well. Staff was helpful and the internet worked well.
On the downside, the sink was tiny with a slight sewage smell, no proper hooks in the bathroom, water pressure in the shower was low, no desk lamp, the cabinet for the minibar fridge was empty and iron only available on request. The room I had was right next to the lift which was quite noisy and the curtains weren’t proper black out curtains. The breakfast was ok, it’s across the street in the slightly tacky sister hotel but you have to pay extra for espresso-based coffees and I would have liked more fresh fruit. The hotel is very perfumed but luckily that wasn’t the case in my room. My colleague booked a budget room which was in the basement (if you could follow the maze of corridors) and it had a strong sewage smell. The hotel was kind enough to move her to another room.
So, all in all I it was a good base for me but for $200/night nothing special at all.

The location of the hotel is very good. Just a 2 minute walk to South Kensington tube station. We were given a basement room and to get to it with suitcases wasn't the easiest thing to do. Room was a decent size, but TV not working, No fridge/mini bar, no telephone, so we couldn't ring reception and ask for anything, even though we were told to dial 0 on our phone for room service, so we had to walk up and down stairs to ask for anything. Shower had a large split in the tray and would have cut anyone who caught it getting in and out of the shower. Continental breakfast was served in another hotel just across the road, but we didn't bother with it, and instead went to the lovely friendly cafes which are plentiful around the area. The reception staff were friendly and the booking in was easy enough and they kept our luggage safe as we had a late train journey on leaving day.
The hotel lacks any soul, and feels empty, bland and depressing but is in a great area. Not worth the money and I don't think we would return.

This truly exceeded expectations. We had a one night stay as we were going to the Opera, the accommodation is modern yet sympathetic to the Victorian building, the bathrooms are spotlessly clean with toiletries, You have air conditioning and temperature control, decent sized flat screen TV, hairdryer in the bathroom and plenty or drawer and wardrobe space. As for the breakfast, it was simply superb, scrambled eggs, boiled eggs, pastries, toast selection of cheeses, salami Ham, cereals, juices. This is a real gem of place to stay in a superb location. the staff were really helpful and the reception desk is there 24/7. We are definitely going to book again.

Lovley Hotel, friendly staff and room really nice.

They have air con and room service so you can just chill. The shower room is really nice, they provide complimentary soaps and clean white towels.

Lovley place and because they don't provide food they have no issue at all with you ordering in takeaway! The location has plenty of eaterys around too including a cafe where you can get breakfast.

The beds are very comfy with reading g lighting available shoukd you need it.

Will defo return!

My office booked a room, most probably, through Expedia. The voucher generated thusly was handed to me by my office travel agent mentioned a single room with a twin bed. Upon check-in, I got half a room under the staircase with a half bed (even kids have bigger bed than that) that was made of cheap compressed wood, the stuff Ikea puts in its flatpack. The cupboard wobbled as one opened the door and there was barely space to move. The lift to the floor did not generate the impression, it would get you there safely. The bathroom sink could not be used because it was so slim, it barely jutted out of the wall. Hair on the towels and bed were included free in my room. The hotel is apparently refurbished and yet has stained carpets, as well as, mysterious stains on the bed, table, etc. The breakfast in their partner hotel located just across is not worth booking - the food choice is pedestrian and you can get quality breakfast well within the price at any food place in London. When I called the receptionist (Stefanie/Stephanie) today (24.06.2022 at 14:44), i.e. one day after checking out to find out why this discrepancy between my office booking and the offered room happened, she started screaming at me and said, I was speaking nonsense. After quite a few rounds of try to gently speak to her, I gave up and asked for her manager. She said Manager is not here and kept on shouting. I hung up, not able to believe that this is the behaviour of a travel and hospitality industry rep. Wow!

Where to start, this hotel is beautiful! I don’t understand the bad reviews. I know it’s had a massive refurb and it’s turned out lovely. You walk in to a nice bright reception. The street the hotel is on, yeah it’s busy but every street in London is. We dropped our bags off around 10ish to go explore some places in London. Got back around 5pm before heading out for some vegan finds! Our room was 205 and it’s beautiful. High ceilings, very comfy bed that me and my partner are ordering the same mattress!!! Bathroom is stunning, very jealous of the shower. The lift to the upper floors is tiny if anyone has claustrophobia, but there are stairs aswell. Staff are wonderful, always friendly with us. It’s a very quiet hotel, and I say that because our mugs in our room were very dusty I don’t think housekeeping had changed them for a few days but we just cleaned them out. Definitely shall stay again.

Selected this hotel for location and on reviews previously and weren't disappointed.
Room was very pleasant and had all we required which was mainly a comfortable bed and sleep with vicinity to local attractions and nearby Sth Kensington and Glouscester Road tube stations.
Would happily return.
Small means, the lift is very slow, maid service was not every day but got ample supplies from reception to make up and the toiletries were small foil sachets - none of which were off putting.

Staff were friendly and accommodating. Bedsheets were clean but room was extremely tired and gritty.

Headboard of the bed was fastened to a wall shared with the lift shaft so there was constant noise as the old elevator creaked and banged up and down. There was zero opportunity for restful sleep.

I had originally booked a ten day stay but due to a family emergency had to cut my trip short. The front desk suggested we email management to request a refund for the final two days and they refused despite the fact that we could prove the emergency and need to leave, which, given how long I had been a guest felt really gross.

I am not sure but having looked at the map it seems that the Dominion Theatre is in Westminster and the hotel is in Kensington near The Serpentine. It would be at least a tube ride away and not within walking distance
