We arrived around lunchtime for an overnight stay, the reception area was very large, bright and clean, and the reception staff were very friendly and polite.
We were on the first floor but only one lift was working.
The room was spacious enough with an extremely large flat screen TV.
There was an ironing board but no iron, the fridge did not appear to work, was empty and there was no mini bar or bottled water.
The cabinet the fridge was in needed a clean, there was a lonely piece of confetti on the floor by the bed, dust on top of the modern looking office lamp, and there was an old very large dark stain on the carpet in the middle of the room which made the rest of the room feel grubby, though the bed linen and pillows appeared clean and the bathroom was clean too.
I was going to call reception about the fridge not working and the lack of an iron but there was no indication on the bedside phone what button to press to reach reception.
Later, before heading out for the evening, we decided to have a quick drink in the bar. We were not terribly impressed.
It felt very expensive for the service and ambience. The bar staff were indifferent when it came to any interaction or willingness to chat, the drinks were not cheap at nearly £9 for a single GnT, I had to ask, rather than being asked, if I wanted a lemon slice with them, a first world problem I know, but they were not busy.
The design of the bar's customer seating arrangements were not welcoming, being very low at very low tables which were all be laid out with cutlery and sachet sauces for food, more like a canteen to be honest, so we did not hang around as it had little by way of any sort of relaxing bar atmosphere or a bar buzz, so we finished our drinks quickly and sat in reception, which was more comfortable.
Our night was otherwise ok and the beds were comfortable to sleep in.
We had to leave very early in the morning around 6am and again the reception staff, different, were very helpful and they hapilly got us a black cab which came very quickly.
The location of the hotel was perfect but for the money, well even if it were a lot cheaper, the room needed a deep clean, the huge carpet stain was old and needed to be removed or the carpet replaced. It was a shame as it let the stay down as did the bar service and ambience.
I would probably wait some time for a room refurbishment before wanting to stay again, but as I mentioned, the reception staff were very friendly, professional and polite.
The location for what we needed could not have been better, just across the road to Lambeth Palace and Lambeth Pier, with Parliament just across the Thames and the London Eye not far.
It has potential to be a great place to stay!

Since Covid I have been favouring London hotels with parking - avoid public transport, straight into the hotel lobby, minimising contact. With Just Park service I was able to make sure I had a parking space booked here for the entire weekend.
It has only recently reopened, all of the covid restrictions are well thought through - simplified checkin, paperless checkout. A special mention to the replacement of the Novotel buffet with an excellent "take away" option that we all loved, thank you very much for an excellent stay.
It was great for our family of older teens as we could use the "50% rate for the 2nd room" option.
Extra, extra thanks for contacting us when my wife left her laptop in the room safe. We were contacted the same day and the laptop was couriered to us within a couple of days. Fantastic service.

Hotel was in a great location with car park on site although the hotel wouldn’t let me book a space with them direct but I was able to on an external website which is a bit strange.
Rooms clean only stayed two nights and rooms not serviced during this time but as was only there two nights this wasn’t an issue.
Breakfast was great, good selection of hot and cold food.
Bar man did try to con me by overcharging for two drinks, only when I pointed out I paid £7 less the day before did they suddenly realise the till was playing up.

We first stayed at this Novotel a year ago for three or four nights and had a great room overlooking Lambeth Palace and the Thames. This time we stayed for just one night. We weren't sure if we were upgraded on arrival but had a huge room on the fifth floor. However, there was no view - it seemed to be above a car park entrance.
This is a 4* hotel and you do get that feel in the public areas. However, there was definitely room for improvement in the room:
1. The towels were old. Now I'm all for reusing towels and am not necessily a fan of big fluffy ones but these were definitely past their best being very thin - they needed to be recycled and replaced;
2. The covers of the sofa were stained.
3. Why put the hair dryer in the bottom corner of the wardrobe? May be I'm being picky but it's nicer to see things on shelves rather than on the floor.
On the plus side, there were two huge wardrobes so plenty of storage space (except this time we were just there for one night!).
Despite these comments, I do like this hotel. The bar is good too. We will return as for us it is in a great position. However, next time I will request a room with a view.

We chose this place for our week long London stay for the new year. Close proximity to the London Eye New year fireworks celebration was the reason for choosing this place.
I was not disappointed as the Lambeth bridge was just a minute walk from the hotel and was a great place to view the new year celebration. The Hop On hop off and the London bus stops were also close by. So sight seeing and local commute was a breeze.
The check in and check out process was simple and quick. Express checkout was just a second - to handover the room key. That’s awesome and consistent with rest of Europe and US.
The property itself was a simple one. The room was relatively small. Nice comfortable beds good for me, my wife and my 14 year old son. The breakfast spread was typical English spread. A good variety of fresh fruits, yogurt, croissants...
Room service could have been better. Room was cleaned well every day. But the in room coffee and tea refills were never done on time and we had to call up housekeeping every day to remind them. We even had to call and ask for the third towel every morning. I wonder why they just were not able to get this right inspite of we staying there for 5 nights.

Novotel Waterloo is one of the more competitively priced hotels around The South Bank area.
However a big trade off is that its location is about 15-20 mins walk from Waterloo Station and 10 mins from nearest tube (Lambeth North).
We had a Queen Superior room with a city side view that was okay although carpet was in a poor condition. Was clean overall though.
Hotel staff were okay if not particularly friendly.
Breakfast at £21 per adult free for kids again was okay, nothing special.
For short trips to Central London you may want to look at cheaper options first like Premier Inn Waterloo located near the station.

Upon arrival we received a friendly greeting from reception staff. The children were given teddy bears, which went down well. One room was available but the other wasn’t. However, we were early. The rooms were well kitted out with everything we needed and the television was huge with lots of channels. The room was clean but house keeping failed to replenish our tea and milk, which we discovered first thing in the morning when we tried to make a drink.
We ate in the hotel restaurant both nights where you could either have the buffet or order from the main menu. The children loved the buffet so that worked well for them. The adults ordered from the main menu and the service was slow and the food took a long time to arrive. We had the same experience in the bar where it took ages to get a drink. I sense the hotel was short staffed. Breakfast was very good.
During our stay we celebrated my husband’s birthday. The hotel gave him complimentary desserts, balloons and a birthday card, which was a nice touch. Overall we enjoyed our stay.

Very disappointed. I stayed here for a week in May on business and had such a good stay I rebooked for three days on business.
On check in I informed them I was on a business trip and requested a quiet room, the staff were really friendly and gave me a room at the end of the corridor, all signs were looking good.
I got to my room and it was large but a bit grubby and hadn’t been cleaned properly, stains on the sheets and hairs around the bathroom but nothing too serious and I had a good first night.
It’s here the positives stop. At breakfast the next day (8am) the dining room was packed, even in none COVID times it would be considered packed, and not a mask to be seen anywhere by those not eating. I was ushered to a tiny table squeezed into a corner and left to it. When I stayed in May it was a restricted menu but you ordered from the kitchen which I found excellent. It’s now buffet service which I wouldn’t normally don’t have a problem with but whilst I was waiting for my hot food I saw several children in front of me picking up the sausages and hash browns in their hands before putting them back down and picking up different ones. I witnessed multiple people, adults and children alike, coughing and sneezing over the food which isn’t under any kind of germ guard or cover. At this point I decided I’d rather do without, I didn’t feel at all safe or comfortable and I promptly left.
I raised my concerns at reception and was told I could order food from the kitchen and have it delivered to my room at a (fairly substantial) additional cost! I decided to go to one of the local cafes instead and had a much more comfortable breakfast experience.
Upon returning to my room that night, I found that the others rooms on the corridor now had large families with children in, who took great delight in running in and out of each other’s rooms and screaming to each other up and down the corridor, it was only at this point that I realised how thin the walls actually are and come midnight I could share the feelings of the parents in the room next door whose children screamed pretty much constantly. Not great news for someone with an early morning and long day in work.
I’m sure for families this hotel is fine, and the location is very central and close to the main attractions. But I wouldn’t recommend this to anyone on business, anyone worried about covid or anyone looking for a decent nights sleep.

London can be awkward when finding a well-priced, comfortable, clean, and sensibly sized room. The Novotel Waterloo meets these requirements. Despite being a busy hotel, the staff are always friendly and helpful. The rooms are clean, although we did notice daily variations in cleaning standards. The restaurant serves good food (at reasonable London prices!). The location is excellent for everything, close to the London Eye, Westminister, and Victoria. You can easily walk to Covent Garden (35 mins), Westminster (10 to 15 mins), and Buckingham Palace (30 minutes). There is a Marks and Spencer Food shop @ Waterloo for packed lunches/dinners or breakfast for those wanting to save money. Overall a surprising and very pleasant experience.
