We had booked a superior room and it was beautiful, spotlessly clean with a calm ambience. The bed and pillows were super comfy and we should have had an excellent night's sleep. This was important as it was a respite break for my partner who is full time carer to his mother, getting just two nights off a month . Unfortunately the guests next door had other ideas!
They were quite loud early evening, playing music and lots of swearing but then they went out and all was quiet until 4am when they returned, obviously a lot worse for wear! They proceeded to have a massive fight; shouting, swearing and things being thrown around. Just as we were about to ring reception, the fire alarm sounded, starting from their room.
We evacuated as fast as possible and congregated with other patrons in the car park. The member of staff on duty that night was fabulous, he promptly went to the room in question to check it out, getting a foul mouthed load of abuse for his trouble, but he remained calm and professional throughout. The aforementioned couple carried on their fight for a while longer once we got back to our room, so safe to say, this was not the relaxing break we had hope for and was actually quite frightening. Thankfully, they only stayed one night, so our second night was relatively calm and peaceful.
I have deducted one star for this, despite the fact the hotel can not be held responsible for the behaviour of guests, because we had expected at least an apology from a member of the management team but the incident was not mentioned again by anyone except the poor man who had had to deal with it the night before.
I'm in two minds as to whether I'd stay again, the hotel and room were truly lovely but we did leave feeling as though we were insignificant to senior staff.
Now let’s talk about the food. I organised a buffet and every guest at the party complimented the food and said that the spread was tasty, fresh, well prepared and presented. Jason even made sure they catered for my two gluten-free guests and labelled them on the table. The buffet gets a 5 star. Jason again ensured that we were happy at all times before he clocked off shift and handed over his Deputy Manager Sean to make sure we had everything we needed for the night. Sean was very pleasant and made sure our party was running smoothly. He even came and spoke to me at the end of the night and asked if we all had a goodnight. I honestly
would recommend the Fieldhead hotel to anyone interested in hiring out function room. My recommendation would be to ask for the 3 spaces below the restaurant and Barr. It’s a hidden gem! Thank you Fieldhead for a great evening. The birthday brothers and guest left very happy indeed and all had a great night.
Five star review from me!
I mentioned the noise and lack of sleep to the staff at breakfast time and also when checking out, the response was simply 'oh' sorry about that, the walls are thin!
When checking in on the friday evening the bar was very busy with a number of drunk groups being incredibly loud - fine for a pub but not great for a hotel.
The room appeared modern, was of a good size and it had a comfortable bed. It was really nice that the room was warm on arrival and throughout my stay.
There are clear signs of wear and tear in the room, which have been patched up over time.
The room had a bath, which I think was the hottest I have ever had, something I was also very happy with. The shower, which I didn't use, looked looked old and basic.
I had dinner at the hotel which came with 20% of a staying guest. The only thing on the menu that was appealing was the seabass which unfortunately they did not have. I instead had the pie which was plentiful, but pretty average.
Breakfast was also included in the room rate. There was a small self-serve area for cereal and juices, with everything else ordered from a menu. I anticipated a good breakfast if it was made to order. I ordered eggs royale which was presented in a runny pool of hollandaise sauce which covered the muffins and the entire plate. Breakfast was the biggest letdown in the hotel, and can only be described as unpleasant.
Had I not eaten at the hotel, this would have got 4* rather than 3.
The reception girls; Reya, Roxy and Miriam were all very friendly and helpful.
As we all had such a good stay we will possibly be organising another motorcycle club meet in October.
This is a great place to stay as it has a large feee car park which is covered by CCTV and fee WiFi. We would definitely recommend.
We had a superior which proved an excellent gathering point for our family of 12, the birthday girl had the four poster and the rest had standard rooms with two extra beds for the grandchildren in one. All very clean and comfortable with good facilities.
We ate in the restaurant and cannot fault the food or the service.
But then there was breakfast the next day - the food was great, when it arrived! Service was incredibly slow and not helped by the wrong orders coming out but we were a party of 12 so we understood the difficulties especially with a staff shortage.
When we mentioned this as the only minor dissatisfaction with the entire stay Roxanne immediately responded with a generous reduction on our bill which just meant we left the Fieldhead very impressed with their customer care. Roxanne had been great prior to our stay helping us with pre orders for the meal and sorting extra beds for the children which, I believe, were at no extra cost.
All in all a lovely stay at a comfortable hotel with excellent food and superb customer service. Hope to return.
"Google map will send you too far down the Markfield road. The Hotel is situation just off the junction with the main road. It's surrounded by trees so easy to miss. "Read full review
