The Mardi Gras Hotel and Bar has garnered compliments for its welcoming staff and the lively atmosphere, particularly its vibrant bar scene. While guests appreciate the very clean rooms and comfortable beds, opinions on the rooms are split, with some calling for updates and questioning their size.
The hotel's amenities, including a quality breakfast, receive nods for adding value, although there are mentions of basic facilities and potential for improved upkeep. While some reviewers find the hotel a budget-friendly option with good entertainment, others feel that the room conditions could be better for the price point.

Have stayed a few times. Firstly I would recommend booking direct by phone, prices are sometimes half that compared to listings on 3rd party sites. Rooms are good in terms of comfort, space and cleanliness, ensuite bathrooms are sometimes basic.
The hotel includes a lively bar which is great, and it didn't interfere with my sleep. However if you are looking for a quiet place it's maybe not what you need.
Included in the price is a good breakfast, with options ranging from fruit to a fry up. Overall I would say a good place to stay offering excellent value if booked direct.

Had a lovely weekend staying at the Mardi Gras again. Room was just what we wanted and the shower was hot (Could do with a shelf in it to put your shampoo on). The hotel is spotless and the breakfast was great with a big choice from cereal to porridge to full english. The bar gets busy and has some great cabaret on as well. If you are lucky you will see Chris strip or rim a lemon (don't ask lol) the staff are very friendly and the drinks are cheap. It is a great location for Blackpool North and the gay scene.

This hotel has got to be the best hotel I’ve stayed In, from the moment we arrived we were greeted by the friendliest of owners and employees. We felt like celebrities the way they treated us. Each day the owners took the time to speak with us and ask about our day and you could tell they genuinely wanted us to have a fantastic time, Well we were staying in Blackpool. This hotel made our stay in Blackpool 10/10. Breakfast was fantastic to offer a great range of options which are all included in the room price. The entertainment was superb and follow guests and locals were incredibly welcoming of us. We for sure will be staying again very soon. Before writing this review I checked out some of the previous ones posted and can’t believe some of the negative ones. Please take our word for it that if you choose to stay with this hotel you without a doubt would not be disappointed with the place and what it has to offer.

Booked a room in this b&b which is right at the heart of the Blackpool LGBT scene. Booked via the Facebook page for a bedroom for my partner and I. Check in was quick and event-less. Staff friendly enough. First room was small but functional. Issues with the TV meant the Manager/Owner kindly upgraded us to a room with a working smart TV. Room was a lovely size with a mini fridge. Bathroom was small, but again functional. Bed was comfortable, it’s clear they have invested in good quality mattresses. Some negatives include: Cleaning needs to be tightened up a bit, in no way am I saying the room was disgusting but small details missed such as bin not emptied, empty lucodaze bottle in the bedside cabinet, fan was dusty and tea tray could have done with a wipe down. Entertainment on each night. If you are wanting an early night I’d recommend asking specifically for a room away from the cabaret bar. Music was loud but did go off at midnight so didn’t impede our enjoyment. Breakfast - cheap & cheerful. Selection of fruits, yogurts, cereal, toast, juices and coffee. Produce on the full English wasn’t great but they need to make a profit somewhere. On the whole this is an inclusive b&b that caters for all, providing adequate accommodation at a reasonable price.

This is our first visit to Mardi Gras since the refurbishment of the bar and restaurant area and I must say the guys have done an amazing job. It looks fantastic, so much space! We arrived quite late in the evening and the bar was already really busy but we were checked in quickly and soon in our rooms getting ready for a night out!! So many establishments seem to pass the cost of refurbishing on to the customers but that is not the case here. The bar prices etc have not changed, it is still a very reasonably priced place to drink. We were surprised to find that whilst refurbishing downstairs, the rooms have also had a freshen up! On Sunday we decided to stay in the hotel for Sunday lunch which was lovely and very reasonably priced at 2 for £12!! Served fast, and hot and a descent portion for the price. This place goes from strength to strength, we wouldn’t stay anywhere else. Well done John and Tony, you deserve the success. Your hard work is always geared towards the comfort of your customers which is rare these days. Keep up the good work!

When ever we visit Blackpool we always stay at the Mardi Gras Hotel. John Street, his partner Tony, Donna and all of the Mardi Gras Team always go the extra mile to make sure your stay exceeds your expectations. It is now our second home. The rooms are always comfy and clean and you can guarantee a quality Full English Breakfast. There is guaranteed entertainment on at the hotel every night. The drinks are probably the cheapest in Blackpool as the owner puts people before profits. Such a genuine guy who has helped support a vibrant clientele at the hotel. We love it there it is just so friendly. Even if you are single you will meet a friendly face here. We cannot recommend the Mardi Gras enough especially if you are a member of the LGBTQ+ community. And if you are not you are just as welcome which is why my family also love staying at this hotel and bar.

This property is most definitely sub standard. I am always very reluctant to write a bad review about anywhere but if I can possibly prevent someone from choosing here over somewhere else then I’ve do them a favour. The property is old, worn and in need of a total refurbishment. It’s dirty….. there is no housekeeping done to the room throughout your stay. Beds aren’t made, no hoovering or dusting, en-suite is not cleaned, bins aren’t emptied. If the price point was perhaps 3 times cheaper then maybe these things could be overlooked but the price being charged for what’s being offered is scandalous. The only slight saving grace is the breakfast which is ok and the staff preparing and serving it are extremely nice.

First time visiting Mardi Gras since the pandemic and then I thought the place was awful and needed a dose of penicillin when leaving.
I thought I'd give it a whirl because they had Elsie Duchess on the decks.
It was an ok visit... Nothing out of the ordinary. Bar prices were cheap, once the best prices in the gay village tbh, Dave the barmen appear friendly enough where as the other guy served people he knew . The bar itself could be done with being bigger to cater for the amount of guest they attract. There was an odour that filled the bar room which did linger on your clothes. I didn't stop at the hotel just used the bar facilities so I cannot comment on the rooms.
Well I return? Possibly!!!
Elsie Duchess rocks.... Loved her when she was resident at Garlands

We stayed at Mardi Gras for winter Pride weekend. On arrival (we checked in quite late) the bar was very busy, but young Ryan left the bar to quickly check us in and show us to our room. Our room was a decent size, the bathroom was fairly small but sufficed. We had a drink in the bar which was always busy from early evening with a mix of locals and guests., before hitting the town, the bar prices are much cheaper than other venues!!. Breakfast is great at Mardi Gras and you are free to customise orders rather than just have full English, and Donna is hilarious with her quick witted put downs. The staff at Mardi Gras are very welcoming, and we wouldn’t hesitate to stay again when next in Blackpool

I wanted my husband to experience staying in a gay hotel in Blackpool, which I had done many a time growing up as I did in nearby Liverpool. I was surprised, after reading now and then, that Blackpool was in decline and no one came for holidays any more. Growing up as kids, we loved the Pleasure Beach, shows on the pier and going up the Tower. All just an hour or so away from home.
The Mardi Gras is one of a number of gay hotels open all year round. Along Lord Street, its colourful frontage is easy to spot. We had come to see the Illuminations, so it wasn’t too far from the prom, or from the other famous Blackpool venues like Funny Girls, The Flying Handbag or Flamingos. The latter two I’d been to in the 1980s, but possibly in different locations. The Handbag was too bright and loud for us. So we spent the evening at the bar playing Play Your Cards Right with our lovely host and me singing Karaoke. People came to the hotel bar just for drinks and it was a very inclusive place, with lots of folk from the LGBTQ community, not just us middle aged men. We drank far too much but our room was comfortable and away from the noise of the bar. Breakfast was filling and it was noteworthy that the chef made a butty for a guest’s long journey home, which I thought was a lovely thing to do.
