Such a great hotel. The staff are so helpful, great service. Great food. The décor is modern and there was a new carpet smell to our room. We have DBB and enjoyed use of the pool. Lovely views from the hotel so nice to enjoy a pre dinner drink on the terrace. The bed was so comfortable, lovely big fluffy towels. All the little touches that made this not just a a great stay but a REALLY great stay. A great location for both Windermere and Bowness.

We stayed for one night as a last minute getaway after my recovery from surgery, we wanted somewhere that was near to restaurants and the lake but not to close for noise or crowded areas as it was the bank holiday weekend and Hillthwaite House was certainly that. The hotel is immaculate, staff are extremely friendly and polite and the rooms were beautiful just like the views from any side of the building. Lovely quiet lobby areas to sit in and have a drink or chill out in and look at the views, smallish but well stocked bar with a very helpful barman Florian. Our room (number 19) had lovely views with a lounge area including a sofabed, tv and chairs by the window, a spacious bedroom with kingsize bed, wardrobes and tv and bathroom with overhead shower. Everything if needed was availble in the room including; kettle, cups, glasses, bottled water, tea, coffe, sugar, biscuits, iron, ironing board, hair dryer, towels and much more. The bed was so comfy that I haven't slept good since returning home lol! Breakfast was included in the package we had booked; there was an endless choice from cereals, fruit, yoghurt, and pastries to a very tasty cooked breakfast. I liked the fact that it wasn't a buffet style breakfast so there was no queuing or waiting for options to be refilled and the service was quite quick after ordering from the kitchen. My other half opted for poached eggs with his breakfast and they were cooked perfectly - not always achievable in restaurants/hotels. We can't wait to return for another break soon!

Only stayed here for one night and was in the annexe part of the hotel, lovely clean spacious room, ate in the restaurant for dinner and breakfast and both meals were very tasty and well presented all of the staff were very friendly and polite. The hotel is situated in the middle of Windermere and Bowness with great views from across lake Windermere, would reccomend this hotel and hope to return for a longer stay in the future.

Beautiful hotel with beautiful views. The staff were all lovely and very helpful. The breakfast was amazing. The pool and spa facilities were superb. I'd definitely recommend staying here and would love to stay again if we were passing through the Lake District again.

Stayed here for 2 nights during the Easter holidays and we are so glad we found it. I had looked at a lot of hotels trying to find something which offered a DBB package for a reasonable price…… not easy during Easter hols. I came across Hillthwaite and decided to go with it. Firstly the position…. Perfectly placed only a pleasant 15 minute walk to either Windermere or Bowness meant we could park the car and leave it till we left. It’s up a hill but it’s not that bad to walk up and the view from the hotel is well worth the walk. Next the welcome… friendly from the minute we walked through the door. The hotel feels warm and comfortable….. probably the plus side of not being a huge place means you get a more personal service. The Room…. We opted for a slightly more expensive option and booked an occasion room. I asked if a balcony was available and it turned out one of those rooms has one. We got room 241 in the annex (Tendal Howe). It’s attached to the main house via a covered walkway but also has its own private entrance and parking right outside. Absolutely spotlessly clean with a beautiful view. The room was a good size with two comfy armchairs and a bathroom with separate bath and large walk in shower. There was also a mini fridge for personal use and a bottle of wine was left in there chilling with compliments from the hotel to either drink there or take home with you….. nice touch! Now the food…… all we can say is compliments to the chef! They ask if possible that you pre order your meal by 5ish each day….. I guess so the chef doesn’t waste food that isn’t needed. Not a problem for us at all it’s not a big ask. The food was absolutely amazing both nights with a small but varied selection of 3 courses and a daily special available as well. Breakfast is plentiful and fresh. You get continental and cooked and nothing is too much trouble….. my poached eggs were particularly excellent. The bar is small but well stocked and there are numerous lounges to enjoy your drinks in all with the same beautiful views. Lastly I think a special mention should be made for the staff. Every one of them had a smile and they were all friendly and welcoming from the start. The manager was present at dinner and worked equally as hard as his staff, cleaning tables and chatting with guests (many of whom were repeat guests many times over - a good sign I think). So thank you Hillthwaite for making our short stay so nice. We will definitely be coming back.

Dear '393kerryannw' Thank you for taking the time to write such an extensive review. Our team work really hard to deliver an excellent experience for our guests and it is nice for this to be recognised and good to hear that you thoroughly enjoyed your stay with us. In terms of the view, it makes me smile when someone who hasn't been here before arrives, I guess we take it for granted but still enjoy the ever changing views from the terrace. We look forward to welcoming you back. Matt & the Hillthwaite Team
