On arrival, slightly before 3.P.M. the Receptionist reminded us the room was not ready in a manner of "who cares" there was no tea/coffee available because of "staffing issues". No apology. We returned to the hotel after 3.0p.m. where a different Receptionist wanted to charge us just under £50.00 more for the room. I produced the paperwork proving I had already paid the agreed amount. No apology. This was a recurring theme each time we passed Reception there was a problem either with the amount due or whether or not the deal included an evening meal. There IT system seemed chaotic . The room was ok, however the stair carpet and room carpet were thread bare. The whole place lacked any sense of pride. The best thing about it is the location. Having read reviews of the bistro we ate at the Ivy.

There is a real dearth of luxury hotels in Winchester which is a shame because it’s the perfect city for a short indulgent weekend. Having now visited the HdV i can strike another one of the list….we stayed in the Courvoisier room in the old part of the building and-whilst I sympathise with the difficulties in maintaining a character properly-this was just downright shabby. Threadbare carpets, broken windows, peeling paint, peeling varnish…the list goes on. Other than a great location and friendly staff at breakfast it was very hard to justify the hefty price tag. The final disappointment was a half drunk drink in the fridge and a crusty contact lens stuck to the floor. After this hotel has a 5 million pound overhaul and some staff training it might be worth staying in but until then I would find a nice local B & B.

Have stayed here quite a few times over the years. This time I think we had our best room! We had a junior suite garden room. Couldn’t fault a single thing. Didn’t eat here this time so can’t comment on the food. Hotel is in an excellent location very near the shops with its own car park. Lovely staff

Lovely looking small boutique hotel in great location walking distance to the lovely pretty town centre. Really good food staff are fantastic cant do enough for you. Garden and outdoor seating are great too. BUT the rooms are a bit tired, we had minor issues but when you are paying £300 to £400 a night its just NOT acceptable. Damaged Bedroom toilet seat, broken sash cord window, carpets really could have done replacing. However the Manager "Claire" came to the rescue, fixed most things same day and compensated us for the inconvenience which to be honest she didn't have to do but that helped enormously. A massive thanks to all the staff for looking after us so well, for the Taxi ride to our wedding venue last minute ! etc etc etc, brilliant. We would definitely stay again but perhaps negotiate the room rate a bit. However its not this Hotels fault its the owners who have decided not to invest at this time and thats a big mistake. Hotel du vin is a brand and if they allow this to slip which they have here then i and others i'm sure will start to look elsewhere so be warned....

Hotel was a bit shabby considering most hotels took advantage of the lockdown to refurbish etc. Tables were in a very poor condition as were the carpets, threadbare in places. We had the Tattinger suite, there was a humming noise in the room that ran all night, we couldn’t find the source, resulted in less than a good nights sleep. The body showers were blocked and or missing nozzles, hot tap was permanently running! We were a party of 7 for Sunday lunch, which was mediocre. The fish (seaBass) very small (undersized) and only a half, one small dish of vegetables between us all, and one small dish of roast potatoes. The beef was “Brisket “ and although cooked as ordered was tough. In general the waiting staff were not sharp, it felt like they were training, serving men and youngsters first! By comparison we discovered we could have had the same meal at the “Ivy” for the same money where the food, quantity, and service is far superior! In our opinion this hotel is 3 star at best and is relying on past reputation. Location is good!
