This was our fourth visit to the hotel with friends using a Travelzoo voucher. Bedroom spotlessly clean (garden room) and very quiet. We had dinner on both nights of our stay - a little disappointed that the 'special main course' on the first evening was not available for a 7 p.m dinner but only a minor inconvenience.Breakfast choice was very good. The staff were particularly pleasant and helpful on this visit and it was a delight to engage in conversation with them. We look forward to our next Travelzoo trip to the hotel (which incidentally is extremely good value).

The plus points first: it's close to the centre, has parking, and the bed was comfortable. There is plenty of hot water - indeed, there are stickers everywhere pointing out that it is VERY hot, and warning you of the risks of scalding. The service is woeful: it took ages to check in, and also to check out. We ate once in the "restaurant" - hard to believe that anything was freshly cooked, the food was how I imagine meals on wheels from the 70s. To turn it into a decent hotel, the building needs more than refurbishment, it needs re-development: and the staff need complete re-training. Nobody could blame you for looking elsewhere.

The good - Excellent location and lovely and quiet. The not so good - Extremely small car park which was submerged in water so very pleased we hadn’t paid to park there! Chap on reception was disinterested, couldn’t find our booking initially but no apology or communication whilst looking for it. Then didn’t actually mention that our two booked rooms were on separate floors despite the numbers being close numerically. He gave the impression that he couldn’t be bothered. Rooms were just ok, mattress protectors didn’t fit beds. Shower flow insipid and tiles loose next to bath. A little tired in areas.

The hotel is in a narrow poorly lit back street, limited parking, internal decor is dated, the room we had was grim, dirty, smelled of damp and urine, staff are poorly trained, we were put in a room for the disabled and it replicated a 1950's care home, (we are not disabled!) it was cold and had not been sanitized

Had a wonderful stay in this hotel which is right in the heart of Winchester. Very easy to get to all the local attractions, and the road not too busy. Managed to get a place in the car park which was £10 a night. The only drawback was a lot of stairs to get to our room. I believe the garden room are quieter and more accessible, but ours was OK with a nice big bath.
