The food at this hotel is superb. Everything for afternoon tea is exquisite and beautifully presented; choice of delicious teas; tasty dainty sandwiches and beautiful tiny scones and cakes. Mask wearing spoils the occasion very slightly as a couple of times we struggled to understand what was being said. That’s hardly the fault of the hotel; just a sign of the times. I could come every single day for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Perfect and a real treat.

Hotel's Favourite
Beautiful hotel. From arrival at the end of the drive you know you’re arriving somewhere a little special, with lovely grounds to walk in. Ultra attentive service, beautifully well presented throughout. Rooms were fantastic - huge suites with all facilities you might expect. We only dined in for breakfast, which was fantastic; but afternoon tea on the terrace and a pre-bed drink in the bar were both great. Sad to leave after only two nights. We look forward to returning

Having arrived 20 mins late due to traffic holdup the staff were understanding but when trying to ring them to inform them of delay no one answered the phone. The actual facade and building is quite fantastic set in beautiful grounds so I thought we would be having an outstanding Sunday lunch. Firstly ordered the drinks which were very expensive and a service charge was added without asking if I was happy with it.Next the starters which were ok nothing special then our Main. Courses which again were mediocre the four of us were disappointed there was no Sunday roast something I would have expected in an establishment of that Calibre. The “piece de resistance” were the deserts. Three people chose the prepared desserts which were very good but I ordered an ice cream mine came in its carton with not even the lid removed on a plate I couldn’t believe my eyes ,not emptied into a dish with perhaps a chocolate flake !!,just the same as you would get at the cinema but charged £5.00 for the privilege.Well we all looked at each other and dissolved into fits of laughter couldn’t believe our eyes.I didnt say anything at the time thinking if that’s how ice cream is served normally no amount of complaint would have made any difference. It gave us all a laugh but on the serious side it’s no way to serve and treat customers who are paying a lot of money for their meal. As the school report says COULD DO BETTER

Dear andreasE598NZ Thank you for taking the time to review your recent visit to Lainston House, I am very pleased to hear that there were aspects of your visit which were enjoyable and was particularly pleased that you enjoyed the wonderful environment that the hotel is set in. We agree, the building and grounds are exquisite and set a wonderful tone to start our visitors and guests off on the right note. I was also pleased to hear that your guests enjoyed their desserts, we are very proud of the pastry team at Lainston House and I will be sure to pass the comments on. I was naturally disappointed to read of your dissatisfaction with your own dessert, the ice cream. We serve a premium product in the Cedar Bar where you had lunch, and we regularly get excellent feedback about the quality of the menu, but recognise that there is always room for improvement. With regards to the food and beverage offering in general, you may be aware that we now offer not only the Cedar Bar but also two further restaurants, including the new Wellhouse which offers a local menu featuring dishes all cooked by woodfire. This provides a wide variety of menus and greater choice for our guests. As we continue to move towards more normal trading conditions I am sure that an increasing number of options will be made available. We would be delighted to welcome you back at this time to enjoy the choice of outlets and menus. Thank you again for your review, we hope to see you again at the hotel.

Booked afternoon tea 2 months in advance for myself and my family for a special birthday celebration. The whole family were travelling from a far for the event, including a journey from Newcastle, this included overnights stays. We received a call at 5pm the night before the afternoon tea was booked informing us that they were unable to accommodate us for afternoon tea and asked if we would like to rearrange. I cannot believe the short notice!!!! Very poor customer service and definitely something I would expect from a well known & established hotel. I urge others to be cautious when booking afternoon tea…. We also paid a 50% deposit 2 months ago!!!

Dear Z2945WNaliceb I really appreciate you taking the time to provide feedback, and would like to apologise most sincerely for the communication concerning your visit. I understand completely how disappointed you must be and can assure you that we would not have contacted you unless it was absolutely necessary. Our aim with every guest is to ensure a visit and experience that exceeds expectations in both quality of product and service, and it is very disappointing when we are unable to do this. From time to time we are faced with circumstances that are outside our control, and in this case, we were limited in our capacity to provide the superb level of service we are known for due to unexpected operational challenges. As my colleague will have explained at the time, we are committed to providing a satisfactory solution for you and I would welcome a conversation about how best to do this. Please feel free to contact me at the hotel if I can assist further. I do hope that we will get the opportunity to welcome you back some time in the future so you can have an outstanding experience in every aspect of your stay. Thanks again.

I'm not sure I have much more to add to what's already been said. Phil and Team, you've created an incredible menu with each mouthful as phenomenal as the next. Balanced flavours in every plate but full of surprises, at times we sat in silence just taking in the taste and feel of what we were eating. I'm still pondering how you got so much deliciousness into the duck donut. Your front of house team were attentive but discreet, and were fabulous in their knowledge and passion of the food and wine pairings. The couple of hours we were with you went in a flash. Chef's Table is next on the list so I can see up close how it's all created
