We took over these premises in 2011 and continued to provide rooms for short and long term stays. We have catered accommodation for contractors, professionals and hospital visitors. In 2018, we revamped the pub and all our guest rooms were updated with new showers, appliances, TVs and furniture. We now offer a total of thirteen refurbished guest rooms, eight rooms with shared facilities and five double, private chalets with ensuite. Our rooms with shared facilities are above the pub and are also available for long term lets. Prices are from only £15 per night. Ideal stay for contractors and builders. Discounts for weekly and monthly stays. We will have a new breakfast menu from October 2019. Pets are not allowed. Griffin Inn is walking distance to High Street and only two miles from Southampton train station and the General Hospital.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Been here a few times for lunch and the quality of the food is spot on. You can eat in the pub or restaurant side the food is the same. Beer and wine not the cheapest but very good. Good place to go in summer with the outdoor area.

Not a place I would recommend. I was driving so had to drink soft drinks so I asked for a Coca Cola they served me a very low-quality cola and to make it worse it was out of a bottle and at room temperature, not draught, not served chilled and certainly not genuine Coca Cola. I also had a packet of crisps which were also very low quality certainly not Walkers or Golden Wonder or any decent brand. The Karaoke DJ was dreadful he had no lights only one speaker not even a pair, no front screen to cover the tangled mess of wires that he had just dangling it seems everything there is low quality and done on the cheap but they still charge £2.50 for a pint of their warm cola. I doubt I'll be going back there anytime soon I only went there because my work friends were going but even they said they are looking for somewhere better that's in walking distance as they don't drive.
Note to the landlord: Get in decent quality soft drinks on draught so it's cold when served. I would recommend Coca Cola or Pepsi or even Hartridges would be better than that dreadful stuff you are serving at the moment. Get in some good quality crisps and snacks and get a better Karaoke Disco or at least tell the one you are using at the moment he needs to tidy up his set up and sort out the sound and lighting. You could potentially have a great little venue there and attract far more customers if you stopped doing everything on the cheap.

Terrible, dirty awful shower. Was meant to be staying all week but after the first night we packed up in the morning, with a bit of work these rooms could probably alright but as they are now they shouldn't be let out, as a contractor I've stayed in some dumps over the years but we do have some standards and being able to have a half decent shower after work is one of them

Dirty room, dirty bedding and rugs, an absolute disgrace, a rat was chewing through the locked cupboard in the corner of the room and when we told the proprietor his response was the neighbours were renovating and leaving rubbish everywhere, he had left poison everywhere, which was probably true as there was a dead rat in the yard under the window. I never leave bad feedback as a rule but I can't think of anything positive to note on this property. I am surprised and dismayed that it is even allowed to be let.

I've been here on a Wednesday and noted the carvery is a good value meal. But there is no other choice, and no food offered on other days. If you want the carvery and come on a Wednesday then you'll like the place (and there were a number of pensioners on my Wednesday visit), but if you want something else, or you come on any other day, then the pub offers little other than shelter from the weather.

Very friendly staff. Dog-friendly: dogs allowed in all areas. Good food (we had a sandwich and “dirty fries”), reasonably priced. Good beer too. Understandably popular, even midweek. Some parking available.

This is a truly amazing pub which serves its community well, but also welcomes visitors. The food in particular the weekly carvery which takes place on Wednesdays and Sundays I defy any other establishment to beat £5.95 with a choice of three meats and all the veg freshly cooked (the roast potatoes are truly amazing) you can eat, Sundays pensioners get the same meal for £4.00

The pub serves good selcetion of ales and the house wine is excellent with friendly service the whole time. This pub truly deserves a visit, you will not be disapointed, oh and just as an added bonus Friday is steak night again with all the trimmings for £5.95.

A traditional pub with rooms. We were told by friends that the Griffin did a good carvery at a very reasonable price. They were right! We popped in today Wednesday when they do two for one and honestly my plate was so full I never thought I would eat it all but I did.I had gammon , beef and pork with all the trimmings. When you see local people eating somewhere you know it will be good.An elderly lady told us she paid for a 2 for 1 and was able to redeem the other meal the next week, very thoughtful we felt.We had a pudding , good old fashioned Treacle sponge with lashings of custard , mmm . The Griffin has rooms as well and we were told they are usually full , so the rooms must be ok as well. think this will be our Wednesday slot from now on .
