The public areas of the hotel are clean, quiet and well maintained, and so are the rooms. This location was extensively refurbished in 2022 and has a more sleek, modern and contemporary design.
The room itself was immaculate, featuring all of the usual amenities that you would expect, the bed was very comfortable as always, and so was the chair surprisingly (massive improvement on the old leather ones). There is a little external noise, but given the location on a busy main road this is to be expected and didn't affect what was otherwise a great night's sleep.
Breakfast is served from 7am and as with most travelodges, is unlimited and costs just £8.99 when pre-booked. There was a wide selection of breakfast options which were all well presented and kept hot and topped up by the breakfast team.
Overall a great travelodge, would highly recommend to others and will definitely stay again.
The hotel doesn’t look much from outside - and the road around the back to access the car park is really scruffy. But inside it’s good.
Our room was on the ground floor and very close to reception and the bar. I was concerned it might be noisy but we couldn’t hear a thing from our room and it was actually really nice being on the ground floor and not having to use stairs or lifts.
We got a space in the car park no problem - and a bargain price of £6 for 24 hours! It was well-lit too.
Check-in was quick and easy with friendly reception staff. Check-out also great - we just had to pop our key cards in the box and that was us done. Very quick and efficient.
We didn’t eat or drink there so I can’t comment on those aspects.
The room was good and clean: king sized bed; decent hanging space for clothes; small shelf space built into the walls on each side of the bed with just about enough space for my phone, specs and a small bottle of water.
The bathroom was compact. It was fine but did feel a bit squashed. Not a problem for a short stay.
The only downsides for me were:
- While my partner slept well, I didn’t find the bed very comfortable. I found the mattress rather hard and the pillow a bit flat. I did sleep ok overall but woke up a few times in the night feeling uncomfortable and felt quite stiff and achey when I got up in the morning.
- The bathroom was very clean but I was put off by the shower curtain. It looked clean but I would much prefer a shower door/screen rather than a curtain curtain.
- I appreciate the provision of hand wash at the sink and a body wash/shampoo dispenser in the shower, but I didn’t like the smell of the body wash/shampoo and the hand wash at the sink was a funny texture and difficult to get much out of the dispenser.
All in all, this place is a good option for a short stay near West Quay - clean room, handy and cheap on-site parking, competitive room rate. Despite the few minor downsides I mentioned above, I would stay here again.
Key card did not open door to corridor to our room. This happened twice so had to go get it refreshed both time, so annoying.
Rooms very small, not much space to sit on side of bed (my side), only 2 t-bags in room, NO sweeteners. Rooms have NO a/c so very warm hence only a sheet (blankrt available if required, definately NOT), window remained open All night ftp fresh, cool air only prob is the ambient outside noise etc made it hard to go to sleep. Bathroom is a plastic container, sit on toilet and you have to rest your arm on sink. The shower plug hole was blocked so flooded the floor.
We then decided to eat in the tiny bar/restaurant area. Turns out the chef phoned in sick so a new, young chef was cooking. Took 1hr for a cheese burger and chips to arrive, chips (I later found out) were oven chips and only cooked on 1 side, burgers thin and over cooked, cheese melted on top then left and concealed. On the plus side my wife enjoyed her chicken skewers on wholegrain rice salad AND we got our food before a group of 3 Americans, who incidently ordered 5 mins before we did:)
Barmaid (new employee) took 5 mins to pour half a lager shandy, probably put 1 pint into slop tray, she had no idea lemonade goes in first abd you must tilt glass or you get horrendous head.
Asked reception to book a taxi for us and was told "the hotel policy is NOT to phone guests a taxi but here is a card with taxi number"
Had breakfast the following morning, NO fried eggs only powdered scrabbled eggs, mushroom cut thin snd half cooked, they were like little bits of cardboard, so safe to say not really impressed.
We put in our feedback to the manager who politely thanked us.
We had a delightful stay and will choose Travelodge for our future family trips!
