The Portsmouth Marriott Hotel is often praised for its comfortable rooms and elegant atmosphere, providing a luxurious yet homey vibe. Guests have highlighted the clean and well-maintained surroundings, complimented by high-quality toiletries and efficient housekeeping. However, the hotel's service receives mixed reviews, with some guests experiencing exceptional care, while others encounter poor professionalism.
While the location is convenient for M27 access, it's not ideal for exploring Portsmouth. Additionally, the value is questioned by travelers due to extra charges for amenities like parking and Wi-Fi.

We stayed for 2 nights to visit Isle of Wight for a day.
Check in was terrible: middle aged man did not made us welcome and had no customer care skills. He looked like he did not like his job and guests are the nuisance. This was in contrast with Italian sounding receptionist we got to deal with later who was always smiling and going extra mile.
Breakfast was nice surprise: tables are safely spaced out and staff serves you everything to the table: this means no plastic waste and quality of food is really good, highly recommend vegetarian full English.
Room was typical modern Marriott bedroom. The bathroom was really clean. After careless check in this was so reassuring. If you request it, they will clean the bedroom every day. Quality of sleep was bad though, with windows closed the air gets too dry from airco and one wakes up after 2-3 hrs to open the window but then it gets too loud from the traffic. It is a problem with purpose built 1970s buildings. You need good espresso in the morning to keep you going.
They also have strange room service covid rules. We checked in at 3 pm and we were told the earliest we can order room service was at 6.15 and pick it up ourselves at 7.15.
It is combination of good and bad but I would not mind returning.

Dear Guest, Thank you very much for sharing your feedback with us about your recent stay here at the Portsmouth Marriott hotel. I would like to apologise on behalf of the reception team regarding your check in experience, but I'm glad to hear that other staff member were able to provide a great service. We have shared the comment about the air conditioning unit with our maintenance leader, so that he can look into how we can prevent our guest to have the same experience. We hope to welcoming you back soon. Kind regards,

Me and my husband booked an overnight stay for my birthday.
Easy check in with polite receptionist
Had to pay £4 for parking which we did feel was a little unreasonable.
Room was lovely.
The bed was huge with the most incredible bedding. I’m planning on ordering the bedding from the Marriott website as I fell in love with it.
Unfortunately we found 4 medium length black hairs in the bedding so maybe the cleaner needs to tie her hair back.
The curtains were black out curtains which again were incredible. Shower was perfect as were the complimentary shampoo, conditioner, body wash, body lotion, shower cap and soap.
Tea and coffee available in room although we got a top up at reception as only enough coffee for 2 cups but this wasn’t a problem at reception who gave me enough for 5 more brews. We had dinner at the Marriott. I had the squid rings and chorizo as a starter and the curry as my main. Bothe were absolutely delicious and tasted so fresh. Prices are a little high including the cost of drinks.
Our cooked breakfast in the morning was ok although quite minimal as for obvious reasons there’s now no buffet.
Overall I had a lovely stay and would visit again especially to sleep in the bed.
Would also like to mention how lovely the male member of staff at the dining area was. Such a kind considerate man.

We stayed here for two nights whilst having a weekend away. Check in was quick and simple. For Covid worries they are very Covid aware, all wearing masks, have screens and alcohol gel in multiple areas. I wasn’t impressed that we had to pay for parking on top of the hotel room price - £4 a night. And even more frustrated to find all the facilities were closed, when I feel like that’s part of what you pay for with a Marriott.
The room was spacious and very clean. All the cups are now disposable. We had a good nights sleep and the black out curtains worked well.
We paid for breakfast for only one of the two morning we were there. It is £13 per person. Personally I’d recommend people go to the beef eater next door where it is £8.99 and offering exactly what the hotel did. It’s a continental breakfast all served for you. It was okay, nothing special.

Been with family this Summer, and I understand the difficulties created by covid.
That could explain the delays and long queues on serving breakfast (despite mandatory booking).
Does not explain the fact we had requested room cleaning service many times and no one came, despite the reception team promising (over the phone and in person) to send someone during our dinner time (requirement is to have room empty due to covid).
At the third day I had to ask reception for some clean towels for a shower before departure.
Breakfast... well... as the title suggests...
If you want to improve your food experience in Portsmouth (and save £16.5 pp) try the nearest *lay-by food truck and order anything on the menu it will certainly be better by far, by a mile. Also there’s a McDonald’s ( God forgive me for suggesting this) nearby.
*never tried, but it has to be better

Two very different experiences, my partner took part in the Great South Run pre COVID and we stayed at the same hotel. We had a lovey stay and the staff were excellent and couldn’t do enough to help, they even were happy for her to use the gym showers after her run. So we decided to go back, what a mistake, previously.
We had the joy of being charged an extra £50 and when queried were disdainfully advised that it was a security deposit in case there was damage to the room. It would have been nice to have been advised about this before it appeared as a card transaction. The room was uncomfortably cold and we were left with the option of running a loud heater and suffer no sleep or gain no sleep because it was cold. To cap our stay on this occasion when my partner asked if she could use the showers in the gym after her race, she was told that they have no showers.
Odd when their own website shows the showers in the gym. I’d rather they’d been honest that they didn’t want her to use the showers. I’m pretty sure that they’re also legally required to confirm what charges they will make prior to making them but I guess honesty with their customers isn’t high on their priorities.
Clean room, poor/loud heater, expensive for level of service you get.

Dear JinxyUK, Thank you for your feedback, and i hope that you enjoyed the Great South Run event. In reference to you a couple of your points, a £50 authorisation is taken at checkin which will cover any incidentals ( charges to your room from the outlets ) The Leisure Club in the hotel closed at the beginning of last year, thus there are no longer any shower changing facilities available in that area of the hotel. I may only assume that any photography of showering facilities may be Traveler / Guest photos as the official webpage of the hotel has no such photography. Kindest regards, and thank you again for sharing your feedback with us.

We booked a small break to rest up a bit, while the wife had a lay in, I treated myself to a full English.
With all that's going on the service was still top notch, with the girls and guy's helping you get hot food just the way you want it.
They kept on top of all the customers and service was very good.
The breakfast was delicious and hot and served with a smile, I asked for a bacon sandwich for my wife which was no problem to the staff, I received crispy bacon with hot toast and butters, the wife loved it, with cold orange juice she enjoyed her in bed breakfast.
Also the cleaning lady was also supper getting us robes and slippers also extra towels for us, again realy great service from top to bottom with all staff putting their weight in this difficult times.
A big thank you from my wife and myself.

We booked a one night stay prior to catching an Isle of Wight ferry from Portsmouth. The room was fine but the aircon/heating kept blowing cold with the thermostat difficult to set which was annoying. Also the shower head leaked everywhere. Having read reviews we decided against eating an evening meal at the hotel and at breakfast we realised that was a sound move. For breakfast there was a self service buffet, we tried to order an omelette but were told that only fried eggs could be prepared. So it was basically cereals, bacon, sausage, scrambled egg and a croissant for £16.50! We even brought our own (Redbush) tea bags. Should we visit again it will be room only

Dear Andrew S, Thank you for your review. I do hope you mentioned the points regarding your room maintenance during your stay, so a team member may have repaired the shower and advised you on the operating of the AC Unit. Allow me to assure you that the Dining in the Evening Restaurant is a very pleasant experience, with some great dishes and lovely service. I will certainly mention your comment regarding the Omelette to the kitchen team, as we look to actively take guest feedback and suggestions on board when considering changes to the Breakfast Buffet offering. In addition, allow me to assure you that the Breakfast Buffet is far more extensive than that mentioned in your review, something for which the hotel is commended for it's variety by other travellers. In addition, we do hold a extensive variety of Teas ( one of which being Redbush ) in the event that your travels bring you back to the hotel in the near future. Kindest regards

We stopped at this Hotel from the 24th May to 27th May 2021
The hotel is easy to find straight off the M27, the hotel has a large car park and was free to us due the room we booked, although they usually have a charge of £4 per day I think.
We were on the 6th floor, the room was large and clean, with an ironing board, the bathroom was good and large, the only fault is the lack of shelving in the shower, you have to put all your toiletries and shampoos on the floor
We ate at the restaurant twice and have no complaints the food and service was excellent, although there is no draught beer, the bottled beer was just not the same and expensive, the breakfasts were especially good, you have to pre-book both due to the Covid restrictions.
Next door to the Hotel there is a Beefeater Pub, we have a meal there and a drink, this is also fine and very close, and yes they have a good selection of draught beer
We had a couple of visits to the town and the Dockland area, a taxi is about £8.00 there and £11 back, why more expensive coming back we could not work this out.
The Hotel staff was polite and very Helpful, at the reception, and the hotel bar.
If I had to single out one really good point about this Hotel it would be the staff, we are a mature couple so have travelled extensively and the staff in this hotel made us truly welcome and would have no hesitation in recommending this Hotel to anyone wishing to visit Portsmouth

We are loyal Marriott guests worldwide however this was the first time to stay at Marriott Portsmouth. The reception staff were extremely helpful and friendly upon arrival and even allowed us to check in early so we could leave our luggage and go out to explore. We were given great tips on things to do and visit which were kid friendly. The room was lovely and immaculately clean with large comfortable beds.
The only let down to be honest was the breakfast, quality of food was a let down, vegetarian sausages were awful and the eggs were awful too not to mention that we queued up for ages despite pre booking a time slot and then waited for over 30 minutes to get served which was no fault of the staff as they were rushed off their feet and was obvious that they were short staffed. We appreciate that we were given a full refund for our breakfast which shows how well they value their customers. Will definitely stay here again!

Nice comfortable room for a family of four. Unfortunately thats the only positive for me.
Disappointing in that room was not made up before we returned from a day out despite obviously having had some toiletries replenished. Having to request room to be made up/hoovered was informed could inly be done when room was vacant. Once done beds poorly made, no surfaces were cleaned and floor not hoovered. When we asked why the room was left as is, was informed to their standards it was clean and they DO NOT hoover rooms until a stay is completed !Shocked by how lacking staff attitude to cleanliness is.
On departure was not even asked how my stay was by the front desk who, despite no queue or urgency, were just interested in finalising payment.
As an American brand i am very surprised that they have set their standards so low.
