The Ormond at Tetbury has earned a reputation for its beautifully decorated and spotless rooms, with many guests enjoying the comfort and quietness they offer. While opinions on value vary, with some praising the pricing and excellent food, others have reservations about the breakfast and service charges. The hotel's atmosphere is generally appreciated for its liveliness and welcoming nature, despite a few mentions of lacking ambiance.
Service experiences are mixed, with commendations for the staff's friendliness alongside notes of occasional disorganization. Amenities are well-regarded, though the lack of elevators is noted.

Detailed Reviews
The Ormond was recommended by a local antique merchant. The front desk manager Sarah was very accommodating and reserve us a superior room that was nicely decorated and had a new rug. There was a nice big bathroom with a large tub and shower unit within. The hotel has a wonderful outdoor bar which stretches to the back of the property. The dining room is nicely appointed and the menu is diverse. The mackerel pate starter is amazing, mixed with horse radish sauce it is truly divine. The fish and chips was cooked perfection and left no room for pudding. The bar is stocked with a variety of premium liquors and brews. Our waitress was very knowledgeable and her suggestions were spot on. Only minor drawback was the soft mattress. We will return again....

The location of the pub with rooms is in the centre of town with a free car park 10 minutes walk away in the old Railway yard. There is a pay and display car park closer by.
The staff were really helpful and very pleasant and the cooked breakfast choice was good but with a very limited alternative choice, just cereal, yoghurt, fruit juice and a fruit bowl. It is purely the service from the staff that has made our review 3 stars not 2.
We knew the building was old and quirky but we’re quite surprised at how run down the frontage looked and the first impressions of the staircase and carpet from reception to the first floor were not good. We had some issues with the cleanliness of the room which were addressed by the staff but to be frank the whole room needed a deep clean at all levels and the bathroom grouting and sealant needed cleaning and refreshing.
This could be an amazing hotel and I expect that the pandemic and a shortage of staff has resulted in what is currently on offer. We have also left more in depth feedback for the hotel and will supply them with photos of our areas of concern in the room.
We wouldn’t choose to stay another time.

We stayed at the Ormonde House for two nights to celebrate a family 80th birthday.
On arrival we were given a very warm, friendly welcome by the lady behind the bar which had a lovely roaring fire. The room was spacious and clean and well furnished. We were given room 22 which is in the lower quadrangle. We had all our meals in the hotel and we were not disappointed. The staff really helped to ensure we had space to enjoy the weekend. The staff en bloc were very efficient and very friendly. Nothing was too much trouble. No parking on the premises was not a problem as there is a 24 hour car park a few hundred yards away at £2 for 24 hour stay. A lovely enjoyable weekend thanks to a large degree to the hotel and staff.
Thanks to you all

We stayed here for one night as our daughter bought it as a Christmas gift for us, we were given a lovely vaulted ceiling room which was beautifully decorated, stylish and comfortable, The bed was exceptionally good with lovely bedding and pillows. Our room was very quiet too as it faced the courtyard. We ate dinner in the restaurant in the evening it was a nice set menu with a good choice and tasty. The breakfast in the morning had a good choice too and was well cooked.
We had an excellent stay we would definitely stay again. The staff were very attentive, friendly and could not have been more helpful. Thank you for a lovely stay.

Myself and my partner stayed here for one night. Lovely staff and hotel had a friendly feel to it. We paid for a superior double room which on booking.com stated all superior rooms were on ground level with a terrace or garden view. However this was not the case, we had no view and were on the first floor. Not a problem for us at all but for people who book thinking there are getting ground floor and have mobility problems this would be an issue. Also it states on the website that there is room service and this also wasn’t the case when I asked for it. On arrival no tea or coffee in the room or toilet roll but I did ring reception and the staff were most helpful and brought some straight away. There is also not a coffee maker in the room as stated just a kettle, which for someone like me who loves coffee in the morning is a bit disappointing. We had a nice meal in the restaurant, food was fresh and we didn’t have to wait long for it and the staff were all friendly despite it being really busy. Some small negatives but over all a lovely stay, nice staff and a very comfortable bed. Would stay again.

Our friends had already booked for themselves and I booked a room for two for two nights to join them.
The rooms were comfortable but music was played all day and into the evening, this seemed to come from the passage way leading the lovely garden.
The garden was delightful and we enjoyed good food both evenings. That said, staff were inexperienced and we waited some time for food. Then where does one get cutlery, napkins and salt/pepper/ Finally found them.
Very short staffed. One member of staff in dinning room both mornings and he was also looking after those who checked out.
Yogurt in a small bowl and a few prunes in another. Little orange juice for one, not four. Our friend ordered Eggs Benedit and first morning, no muffin, same second morning but toast instead. No facilities for car parking , we parked in the car part less than five minutes away but could only pay for 2.5 hours. Such a shame as had the potential for a lovely renunion but turned out like Fawlty Towers.

Response from Anna Brown, Other at The Ormond at Tetbury
Responded 19 Jul 2022
Thanks for taking the time to review us and we are delighted that you enjoyed the garden and the good food. We do play low tempo music in the garden which gives a lovely atmosphere and which most guests love, we turn it off mid evening but it can be adjusted in different areas if necessary. We are sorry that we didn't have muffins on either morning, it is well documented that there are considerable shortages of certain foods and often we can't get random items. Staffing can also be a challenge. Fortunately we have remained open for 3 meals a day since these national issues began, many businesses in Tetbury have had to adjust their opening hours and don't serve food all week, but we have managed to stay open to serve our guests, as you have said, the food is good so it attracts business from other local hotels who are not serving food and recommend us to their guests.

We stayed here for three nights and really enjoyed it. Our room number 20 was large, modern, clean and well appointed. The bed was a large double and very comfortable.
The location is perfect right in the middle of Tetbury. Though there is no on site car park within 100yards there is a car park which is free overnight and £1 per hour during the day which can be paid by credit card tap.
The staff were efficient, friendly and attentive and were very helpful with places to visit nearby.
Excellent value for money. One minor crib the non full English breakfast options are a bit narrow. They could do with adding a couple of options like fresh fruit and fresh croissants.
Thoroughly enjoyed our visit

We booked the Travelzoo deal 2 nights B & B with a 2 course meal & wine on the first night for a very reasonable £199.
They say before our arrival I got an email from the hotel asking if we’d like champagne in our room & as it was my husband’s birthday I said yes please however the champagne never arrived although it was added to our bill.
Our ground floor garden room was lovely & spacious with comfy bed & sofa, tv with Netflix & Amazon Prime & big bathroom.
Tea/coffee making facilities were very average Tetley teabags & instant coffee, biscuits.
On our second day after our roomed had been made up no more biscuits were left for us. It’s the little things that matter.
The dinner was very good - I had sea bass & my husband had monkfish, I ordered ice cream for dessert but it took 40 minutes to arrive & when I asked why it was taking so long I was told us they were short staffed & they were serving all guests main courses before desserts no matter when they arrived for dinner.
Breakfast was very good & plenty of choice although the menu said fruit salad & there was none on either day - I asked about this & was told there is no fruit salad but there is a bowl of fruit which the lady went into the kitchen & brought out - apples & oranges. When the yoghurt & orange juice ran out it took staff half an hour to realise this & replenish it.
The staff were all friendly & very nice but I feel that if there had been a manager to oversee the dining room things may have been better.
Overall a really pleasant stay & we’d go back.

We stayed in a double room on Fri 7th August and thoroughly enjoyed our time there. The manageress gave us a great welcome and looked after us throughout our short stay. The evening meal was very good and served promptly to our outdoor table. Drinks and bar service were also really good and we also enjoyed Tetbury as a location for visiting the surrounding Cotswolds. We would recommend and plan to stay again in the future.

My husband and two young sons stayed at The Ormond over the Easter period to make the most of it's proximity to both the Wildlife Park and Cotswold Water Park and the Tetbury town centre location. We stayed in a large family room which was light and beautifully presented, the staff were extremely attentive upon arrival, so we decided to book dinner in the warm and inviting restaurant. The staff made us all feel most welcome, the pizzas were a hit with the boys, there was so much to choose from the menu, we landed upon the delicious spring beef casserole and the duck breast with dauphinoise potatoes, a real treat! A great find we will be staying again!

Hi there, thanks for contacting us. Of our 15 rooms only 2 are standard twins and they are both on the front of the building on the second floor, so they are exactly the same as each other. They are both quite small rooms with lovely shower rooms and two single beds. Please don't hesitate to contact us if you require any further information.
