The Close Hotel captivates guests with its enchanting and inviting atmosphere, which strikes a charming balance between traditional and chic, often adorned with festive touches. Many travelers appreciate the well-appointed and spacious rooms, especially the luxurious Molton Brown amenities, despite some reports of discrepancies with room descriptions. The hotel's amenities, including quality dining and a picturesque garden, frequently receive praise, though several guests consider the drinks and food overpriced. Service at The Close Hotel earns rave reviews for the staff's friendly and professional demeanor.

We stayed in room nightingale which I have to say is outstanding, large with an unbelievable bathroom over looking the beautiful gardens .
I like the fact it has a door within a door so you are not disturbed by lights in the hall or unwanted noise in the corridors .
We have lunch and drinks in the bar on the Friday when we arrived which arrived promptly and at all times the staff were friendly and professional.
Evening meal again in the hotel was 10/10 just be wary if you order the meringue for pudding it's huge and enough for 2 .. but again outstanding staff.
Breakfast also very nice and very well presented with enough to keep you going for most of the day.
All in all the staff should be praised from the reception , waiting staff and cleaners , our room was pristine sparkling clean, bar staff very attentive and the concierge friendly and chatty ..I do hope they can wether this latest set back as we will certainly be coming back in the summer .

We have visited The Close quite a few times, it is especially nice in the summer as they have a lovely outside seating area. We have always experienced good service, we have visited for food twice since lockdown restrictions eased, lovely food (one visit was scones/tea and the second was for a roast dinner) the roast is on the pricier side but it is what you would expect from the location in a hotel setting. The only thing that has surprised me is not having to leave any contact details for track/trace, it is the only eatery I have been too where I haven’t had to leave details of some sort (even if it’s on paper) a lovely spot for a drink or food

A great experience from start to finish. We stayed for one evening and had supper in the restaurant too. The staff are highly professional, helpful and friendly. The interiors have been stylishly renovated, maintaining original features without losing the buildings character. Our room was in the tower and we found it comfortable, clean and nicely decorated... a great nights sleep! Tetbury is a quaint town, pretty and unique in character... even in the rain. We settled by the fire for some drinks and scrabble followed by a lovely supper where the food was of a good standard with a locally sourced menu- service in the restaurant could not be faulted. The only negative was the hotel charge for the Molton Brown products in the bathrooms (quite easy to overlook). Overall this was a very pleasant visit and we'll certainly be back here. It's also opened our eyes to the other hotels in the Cotswold Inns & Hotels group.

Perhaps the booking experience should have been a forewarning. Although the hotel was booked in advance I was only given an option of a full board package which included lunch and dinner. If one spends four nights in a hotel it would be nice to sample other restaurants rather than being forced to eat in the same restaurant every night. This we actually did which meant that I wasted a significant amount of money. The breakfasts were very nice but after a great breakfast and lunch the last thing we wanted was a three-course dinner in the evening, but again, not doing this would have have been a waste of the pre-paid full board. Not happy.

This is a beautiful building set in a beautiful Cotswold village and it should have been amazing. We flew in after a long flight, paid top notch full board and were promptly told that out room is on the top floor, basically the converted attic. Dragging our backs upstairs was not fun.

The room itself was small with only a small window. The bathroom no better. Upon requesting another room I was told that the hotel was full (fair enough) and that advised that better rooms are given to frequent guests. After travellling all the way to the UK and to be told effectively that it didn't really matter how much I paid I would not be given a nice room left a very bitter taste.

The staff however, were nice, friendly and helpful.

Dear Anglotraveller Thank you for your review Disappointed that you felt that 2 star was worthy of your stay with us. To clarify for all, we do not impose a full board at any time and in fact we do not have a full board option to book. We also do not have “ attic rooms”. You booked a very good room, and you where allocated a fantastic very good room, overlooking the garden, which was in its full spring splendour on your visit last year. We allocate rooms on booking, and not wether you are a regular or not, as it was Badminton week a lot of rooms have been booked from the year previous. Correctly you point out we do not have a lift, but we do offer all luggage to be brought to your room. Best Regards Chris

Let me start by saying the Hotel is lovely inside. However fair warning, if you are staying in the Swallow room, expect to hear shouting, swearing and general berating of the kitchen staff, as the kitchen is directly below the room. This goes on from 7.30 am to late evening and only ceases when the kitchen closes.

I recommend checking all charges before leaving the Hotel, we found charges made to the room for an evening meal and drinks totalling over £300, when the actual figure should have been a little over £100

Dear Save_The_Fish Thanks for review. As already highlighted, the overcharge was a genuine error, an immediate refund was completed and full apology issued. Mistakes do happen With regards to the berating of the staff, I will take exception with that. The kitchen team are hardworking, and a close knit team, that enjoy working at The Close. At times it is high pressured and a busy environment, but nobody is belittled. The Swallow Room is a fantastic room, and is one of our most requested rooms. Best Chris

We chose the Close hotel for our first trip away with our new six-month old puppy, and were not disappointed. We booked an 'excellent' room, and our room, Cloisters, was indeed excellent. The room, the bed and the bathroom were extremely spacious, with a small private courtyard where we could exercise our dog. For a £20 a night surcharge they provided a bed, blanket and water bowl for our dog, although for this price I think a few dog treats would have been nice too.

We didn't eat dinner in the hotel as the limited menu didn't appeal to us, but the location in the middle of Tetbury is perfect for visiting pubs in the town. There was a wide choice for breakfast and the quality was very good. I can't remember his name but our host at breakfast was excellent.

There are three things that would have made our stay closer to perfect: 1) Not being woken up by someone emptying glass bottles into a wheelie bin and then wheeling bins around for what felt like ages right outside our room at 6am; 2) Having streaming services available on the TV. There are buttons on the remote for Netflix and Amazon Prime, but these didn't work. An increasing number of people don't watch linear TV and hotels should reflect this, especially at this price point. 3) A fridge for keeping wine/drinks cold.

Other than those points, we had an enjoyable stay and would return.

Whilst this place is quite informal, with a welcoming public bar, it is ran very professionally with an excellent eye for detail. The food is very precisely cooked and beautifully presented. The staff are all outstanding but I will give the super receptionist and concierge Nicki a special mention for her knowledge and enthusiasm.
The hotel is well placed for exploring Tetbury and the wider Cotswolds. Up the road is Cirencester, worth a visit, and Westonbirt, the glorious National Arboretum. Booking essential!

Excellent welcome at reception, friendly and interested.

The interior decor needs attention. Dull, dark and uninspiring.

The Nightingale room was very large and the bathroom without doubt was the largest we have ever seen. A huge walkthrough shower for two. The bath, stands alone in the centre of the bathroom and looked hugely impressive but both my partner and me are 6 foot tall and it was in reality too small lengthwise to be of any use whatsoever.

Interesting mirror opposite the bath which operated also as a TV but because neither of us could fit in the bath, that was a waste of time.

The decor in the bathroom was low quality. The wallpaper (wallpaper in a bathroom?) was stretching with small gaps and the three tiles as splashbacks to the basin were cheap looking and clearly inadequate.

The main bedroom was also very spacious, an impressive amount of room. The decor was of low standard. The sash windows let through a draught and didn't even close on one side. The heating only came on around 7 in the evening.

The cabinets and cupboards were dark wood, not particularly attractive but I suppose their age was in keeping with the hotel.

The bed was very comfortable but the duvet was not. I think it was filled with down which sank to the end of the bed half way through the night. It was also not particularly wide.

The bar area was very dark, with oppressive wallpaper or paint. The bar service was exemplary, attentive but unobtrusive.

Breakfast was good, again with excellent service. One point to note though, the bacon was smoked (no choice) and in my opinion smoked far too much. My partner loved it however. Different strokes for different folks - a choice of non-smoked or smoked bacon would cost nothing for the hotel.

Spotlessly clean on entry and the room service was excellent.

Don't bank on getting a space in their car park, one day we did, one day we didn't. Apparently half of the car park was recently bought by the local council and now parking spaces are at a premium.

We almost gave a 4 rating but at £480 B & B for two nights it just did not represent value for money even though the Nightingale room we stayed in was one of their top rooms.

Dear nomis5 Thanks for the feedback I would suggest the decor is anything but dull, dark and uninspiring, but as you say different strokes for different folks. The bath is a full size bath, and if anything it's bigger than anything you would normally see at home. Not sure on your reference to part of the car park being sold off to the local council, just untrue. So pleased your husband enjoyed the smoked bacon, it really is something special. Best Regards Chris

Stayed here for 3 nights whilst visiting Tetbury. This is a charming hotel set in the heart of Tetbury with parking behind accessed from near the fire station. We were warmly welcomed by Mark who showed us to our large room, Nightingale, at the rear of the hotel with enormous bed and bathroom with double shower and island bath.

Breakfast was buffet style with hot options to order all very good quality whilst dinner was also of an extremely high standard. Dishes could be adjusted to allow for gluten intolerance. All staff were helpful.

Would thoroughly recommend this hotel if staying in the area.

The close hotel in Tetbury is a great place to stay. It’s a very spectacular building set on the High Street, but once inside you’d never ever know where you were. The reception staff were all great, on arrival they came back with us to find a car park space and assisted us again later on when a better option became available. The building itself is lovely and you get a very real sense of the history of the place. The room was in a quiet section of the hotel called the “court” which was a large double, With a really comfortable mattress, a dresser area, coffee machine and a really great large ensuite bathroom with the largest supply of toiletries I’ve ever experienced in a hotel, so well done to the Cotswolds Inn & hotels group on that one. Another big plus was breakfast, the staff that served us were great the restaurant was lovely and our table looked over the gorgeous gardens and the breakfast itself was cooked to perfection and it is not an exaggeration to say it was one of the best hotel breakfast I’ve ever had, superb and brilliantly cooked. We would definitely recommend the Close Hotel in Tetbury and it’s a great base for seeing the Cotswolds too.

There is a small car park at the rear of the hotel, if this is full there is another public car park next to this used for the library. At push there is street car parking. I don't think it will be too much of a hassle.
