Detailed Reviews
This review is of a standard double room (224) for 2 nights.
To start with, there was a 15 minute wait to check in, with no acknowledgement of our presence by staff (so don't expect the basic customer service "sorry I'll be with you in a minute").
Once we finally got checked in, The Victorian era decor is instantly noticeable, not because it looks historic but because it looks run down and neglected.
Once inside our room we found out the hard way that housekeeping had neglected to put toilet paper in the bathroom, so my wife had an embarrassing walk down to the reception for me to ask for more TP. (again a 15 minute wait).
The room itself had a covid related sticker on the door stating 'sanitised room' which could not be further from the truth.
The fan was filthy and blew dust around the room, one of the bedside lamps didn't work, the only 'sanitisation' I could find was they had wrapped the TV remote in plastic. Generally this room was not as it should have been, I've stayed in 3* hotels before that were so much nicer than this.
On our second day, we approached the front desk, nobody was there to greet us, behind a screen we could hear typing, a member of staff them arrived and went behind the screen too completely ignoring us, for nearly 5 minutes the 2 staff members talked amongst themselves fully aware of us waiting there.
Finally when we were acknowledged we were told that the bin in our room could not be emptied due to covid-19 (ridiculous considering we told staff we would be out all day) cleaning staff apparently were not available after Noon.
Now I tend to sleep pretty well, a bed is a bed to me so no issues there, other than the smell of our full bin (deliveroo rubbish).
Our last day came (thankfully) and we went down to the reception, I politely said "thank you very much".
A female staff member, blankly replied "what room" while still looking at her screen, not even making eye contact with me.
This is a cheap hotel 3* which should be demoted to 2*, but regardless I expect basic customer service wherever I stay, reasonable requests granted (like emptying a bin) and rooms to be kept in working order, unfortunately The Albion failed in all those basic services.
I would not stay here again.

Stayed here for one night. My husband booked this for me and our daughter as we were in Brighton for the day he thought it would be lovely for us to extend our day! Fab! Until we arrived here!! First attempted to check in at 1 pm, only to be sarcastically told to come back between 3 and 4 pm., Okay! So we came back at 3.30 pm to a 45 minute long queue! Stifling hot and certain people totally ignoring the social distancing by literally breathing down my neck! Finally got the front desk and showed the extremely rude woman our CONFIRMED conformation showing payment, only to be told ''Payment hasn't gone through'' WTF!? Yes it had as I had it on my daughters mobile to prove it! I explained I didn't have the credit card that the initial booking was made on as my husband booked it as a Guest client, booking on behalf for someone else! The website clearly states you can book for someone other than yourself to stay here. She was having none of it and just brushed me off roughly shoving a complaints card at me saying speak to her manager! Thankfully he had sense and he was a lovely man. He spoke to my husband on the phone and the issue was quickly rectified. When we arrived to our room it stank so bad of damp, which I can only assume was the wet carpet? Dirty windows, unclean bathroom with dust on top of light shades over the sink. Running hot tap in the bath which could not turn off and bath needed replacing as the paint was all chipped and it had all mould on the ceiling and shower rail! The bath plug hole also had a mass of hair! I am sorry but I am not cleaning that! Suspicious poo looking stain on loo lid and our room did not have the sanitised sticker on the door, but because of all the upset caused trying to get our room we just went to the supermarket and bought cleaning products and cleaned out the bath as best we could. The shower turned on on but wouldn't turn off so we had to call maintenance. Thankfully he was a lovely friendly man and told us not to worry as the system is rubbish! The bed was very hard but thankfully that appeared clean. We put our own clean clothes over the pillow to sleep on just in case. Did have a long hair on the sheet but i just picked it off. The back of the remote for the TV was missing and the fan was poorly assembled. The room had lots of tiny flies, which we took in to consideration the weather is extremely hot, but cleaning maintenance needs to be revised! We decided not to eat here purely because of our poor welcome and unclean room. This was £75 on our visit and unfortunately on what we had to endure it was not worth it! It's sad as this is a lovely location, Definitely needs. Revised cleaning standards, new staff or re trained people on front desk who understand customer care! As one person ruined our experience!

Myself and my partner stayed at this hotel on Friday. On our arrival there was a couple outside and the man said who “don’t do it”! I said “Oh no... is it really that bad?” And he replied “Let’s just say it’s dated!”..... Once we reached the reception desk there was a man he was complaining about the hotel and saying he had paid £200 and was very disappointed! The reception staff really did not seem bothered and were not very apologetic. We booked in and we were shown the keys to our room. The lady at the reception was actually nice to us and very pleasant to talk to. When we got to our room the key card fob would not open the door. After a few minutes it worked. First impressions of the bedroom were that it was dated as the man outside had said and the bathroom was modern in comparison to the rest of the room. The bed was as hard as a park bench and very high up. The worst part about the room was the window. At first I thought the window was open but in actual fact it was just the breeze coming through. We had a seafront facing room and in the summer I’m sure this room would be sought-after however in the winter it’s a different story. The window frames are rotten. Myself and my boyfriend wanted to charge your phones but he said that all except one of the plugs were old-fashioned and we could not plug our chargers in unless we left the phones on the desk far away from the bed. The room was dusty and fairly dirty and there were stains on the carpet. The duvet was very thin and the pillows were very firm. We ordered room service in the early hours, our order was for a sandwich and a drink of Coke. They only accept cash for the room service and my boyfriend had to walk the streets to find a cash machine as the one in the lobby was locked up. The bread was very dry and the bottles of Coke were the type that you cannot open without a bottle opener which they did not provide. The following morning we checked out and we mentioned a concern to the reception staff. The man was so blasé he really did not care and he did not seem at all bothered by our comments or the fact we were clearly disappointed. We had our breakfast and this was reasonable and the staff were friendly. I got this room through group on so I never paid the full price or the going rate for it and the breakfast was included. Had I been paying the going rate I would have been extremely disappointed and very frustrated at the lack of consideration from the reception staff for the general happiness of the guests. I also would have been very unhappy about the state of the bedroom and the actual building with the rotten window frames. It is a real shame as I feel the building is full of lots of history but I get the impression that currently the hotel is in the wrong hands. It is my opinion That the current owners have really let it go. If you are going to stay at this hotel please go prepared and please don’t expect too much. You will not get good customer service from the reception team but if you’re looking for cheap and not very cheerful but close to the seafront and close to what’s going on then it may be right for you. If this is not what you’re looking for I would personally avoid at all costs.

This hotel is a utter disgrae, the Staff are not interested in complaints which I attempted to log on multiple occasions. The room i stayed in was filthy, mouldy windows, un-hoovered floors utter disgrace, I travelled from Norfolk to see family and I was so concerned i attempted to book an anternative hotel but couldnt get a room else where, all of these concerns were raised with the hotel but they did nothing about it nor were they interested. If you want to atch something then feel free to stay here, otherwise i wouldnt allow my dog to stay here let slone humans. Hand Sanatizer's were empty, nobody was wearing masks, no social distancing in place at all! over crowded lifts guests coughing all over the place and the staff couldnt have cared less, I would never stay at this hotel again this is a total Dive. i asked for a refund and wasnt even contacted, I feel so strong about how bad this place is that I will get a COVID test and report this place to the local council, hopefully they will be closed for a proper CLEAN!

This is a very dated hotel and for the price I wasn't expecting much but what I got was worse.
Location Great opposite the pier & 2min walk from shopping centre.
when you first enter it looks dated but I have been in other hotels looking the same but was proved wrong not in this case though. Walking to my room floorboards creaking paint on doors not sanded just painted over if painted at all.
I had booked a single room as I was only staying 1 night (Would have move hotel if it had been more). The room was compact and very dated I'd give a time period but I'm only 60yrs so will before mine or my grans time.
The main issue was the bed, first it was not a divan. It had 4 legs that looked like they would break if i sat down to hard as the 2 I could see where not straight. When I did go to bed it squeaked loudly each time I moved also each time someone else move (think next door) I could hear them move. As for the mattress it was thin and I could feel the springs so got little sleep and woke up with backache.
This Hotel I don't think has double glazing so from my room 2nd floor I could hear people skateboarding past and talking as they went past the only good thing was heavy curtains when closed stopped the draft from window and reduced the noise
Breakfast could at best be described as bland and that would be more than it deserves, I can say I have never seen chips on a breakfast buffet before, so if you like chips at every mean you will do well here. After trying the full English I decided that tea and toast might be a better option (staff cleared my cup away as soon as I put it down) got another cup went to do some toast but only a couple of whole slices of thin white left no other options and the butter/marge marmalade/Jams came out of big buckets which people had put all-sorts in
When I checked out I raised my concerns and at least the staff gave me details of who I could raise my concerns with

I can honestly say this is the worst hotel I've stayed in. We booked a 3 night stay over the new year period. As we checked in people were complaining ( we should have realised at this point to things weren't looking good) The room had clean bedding but the rest was filthy, mould and mildew on all windows, dents and marks on all the walls rust around taps. The first night wasn't too bad but meals (buffet) were served on a tea plate, my 8 year old grandson eats from a bigger plate. Wine only served by the bottle. News year eve gala evening was an absolute joke. We were greeted in the dining room by water pouring through the light fittings in the ceiling, no special menu. Not a party popper, streamer or party hat in site. Very boring evening. The breakfast was cut short the next day due to even more water pouring in. Needless to say we didn't even bother to stay for the third night. When checking out a day early we weren't even asked why. To top it all off the 25°\ discount parking ticket for parking ran out in November.

Upon check-in I was delighted how quick the queue got shorter so fast when staff realised that it was getting busy at reception and all chipped in, including Manager. When I stayed in room 14 on first night it was in the basement but it was nicely laid out and cool which was a bonus with the hot weather that day. Next day I stayed in room 125 which was a bit warm on first night. I queried at reception for a possible spare fan. It was delivered within 10mins... Wow! The service in this hotel is exceptional. If you go for breakfast in restaurant you will be surprised how safe you feel at the buffet. No touching signs were all over the counter and I made sure I adhered to them. However, some people do deliberately ignore these red signs and still try to touch things and have to be, reminded three times to stop touching. Of course, they did not like this. Some people think they are special but HSE safety is top of Royal, Albion Hotel priority... And I recommend them for this! I am having a lovely stay with a great barman that must be working here for nearly 20 years as I recognise him from living in Brighton for 8 years. All my family and friends stayed here as I highly recommended it to them. And they were not disappointed.
You must have the fish and chips on menu... It's, amazing! Better than Harry Ramsdons! Hands down.

Arrived early and wet as it was raining heavy with my granddaughter, I was told to come back at 4pm that’s when I can book in. Only after I asked if they expected me to take a child back out in the rain did they pointed to the lounge area where we could wait.
My granddaughter is asthmatic and there’s a dog running around the lounge, not a good start for an asthmatic child. I asked for a glass if water to take my medication and was told to wait until 2pm (2hours wait) when the bar opened.
The room 353 3rd floor was filthy specially the bathroom, the sink had a plug that was too small had to have a wash with running taps, the bath screen had not been moved for years the dirt under it was disgusting, there were electric sockets loose , lights not working, the windows were filthy could not see out of them , the windows had black mould growing out of the edges ( not a good environment for an asthmatic child.
The staff were rude and there whole attitude is couldn’t care less.
I complained to customers services, and was offered 10% refund which is £11.23, I will be refusing this , they should use it to pay a cleaner to scrub the room.
A few minutes later I received another email the some as the first one, but with a different person name on it. What this shows is that customer services send out standard letters in order to shut the customer up. I have now contacted the Brighton and Hove public health officer to ask them to do an inspection on the hotel, if the place is Covid checked then why have they not picked up on all this disgusting filthy rooms.

Myself and my two children came to stay here for two nights and I have never seen a 'hotel' in such a bad way as this one. As we entered our room we immediately saw it was basic, outdated and not clean. One of the beds had a broken leg, the beds were extremely uncomfortable, the wallpaper was coming away from the wall, the walls were covered in marks, there was dust everywhere, stains on the bedding, the welcome tray was dirty and the mugs had food remnants and were filthy also. The windowsill was disgusting and dirty, the netting had burn holes, the window was cracked and broken, didn't close/open properly and our view was a lovely brick wall! The bathroom was DISGUSTING, the smell coming out was awful we had to keep the door closed, there was mould/damp over the ceiling, the toilet seat wasn't attached, toilet roll holder/towel ring broken, toilet flush broken, bath was dirty, grime all along the shower door and sink and tiles and bathroom taps, floor was stained and dirty, one of the lights didn't work, the extractor fan was covered in dust, it was so dirty we didn't even dare bath/shower in there. Thankfully I took lots of cleaning supplies with me, I re-cleaned the whole room and sprayed antibacterial fabric sprays over the bedding before sleeping in them.
I will point out I did not complain to management because quite frankly I expected all the other rooms to be just as bad, if I would've had the option to move hotel and stay elsewhere I would've done. I would also like to say the staff on the front desk when checking in and out were nice and friendly. However I would definitely not recommend staying here to anyone and definitely will not be returning.

Arrived at this hotel. Had poor expectation from reviews but I didn’t think it would be this bad. Arrived at 4 and was waiting in a queue for half an hour to get key. Staff were very blunt all round apart from bar staff (so lovely). Room was awful. Holes and stains on walls with lots of cobwebs. Shower curtain was stained and pole was rusty. Taps and surfaces had not been cleaned with pubic hairs and toothpaste stains covering. Water temperature was Luke warm no matter whether you ran the hot or cold taps. Room was extremely hot with only a broken fan to keep us cool. Windows did not prop open so we resorted to keeping it open with a bottle. The view from our room was some sort of machinery covered in dust, dirt and bird poo and we couldn’t tell what time of day is was as no light was entering the room. I ended up having to sleep with ear plugs in to sleep through the noise of the machinery outside of the window and me and my partner took turns on who slept that night depending on who was next to the fan . Every time we tried to enter the room we had problems with the key cards and were constantly told to keep the keys away from phones or cards (which we had done. Not our problem, obviously a problem with the cards). My boyfriend got locked out of the hotel and had to wait for 45 mins to be let in by a security guard who did not believe he was staying at the hotel. Towels were not replaced and we had to go to reception to get new ones. The list goes on but you are literally paying for the prime location and it definitely was not worth the money spent.

No fridge in the room. The hotel was disgusting. The supervisor, a lady with glasses is the most rude person you will ever meet. She should be fired ASAP.
Please don’t stay in this hotel
Their lifts are out of order for 2 months is what the lady supervisor mentioned. Their breakfast is poor quality
Having just read others reviews,in respects they are correct about the place, but you get what you pay for. The ground floor rooms are located to.theleft of the lift I believe
I would not recommend anyone to book this hotel.
The staff are rude and unhelpful the place is tied and rundown.
They said we would have a two course meal which turned out to be a bar meal as the restaurant was closed.
