We stayed here at the start of October what a great location with fabulous see views ideally located for a stroll on the front , nicely located for the town centre too. Plenty of parking at the back of the hotel.
Great hotel we opted for a suite which was located on the 2nd floor a short walk from the lift and stairs . Lovely room couldnt fault it everything in that you would need including a small fridge and balcony with sea views . A box was provided with a list to tick off each day for tea coffee towels changing ect this was a brilliant idea and everything was left outside your room , All staff were very pleasant and nothing was too much trouble we enjoyed it so much we have booked for next year

We booked a last minute to stay at this hotel on 13 November 2019. We were very impressed with the quality and comfort of the room, the value for money and the levels of service throughout the hotel.

The location was perfect for getting to the town centre and the room had lovely views out to sea.

The food was really enjoyable with great service from the restaurant staff.

Can’t fault it!

We recently returned from a dinner bed and breakfast Twixmas break that was thoroughly enjoyable and good value for money. The staff were very friendly, helpful and attentive with nothing being too much trouble and the entertainment in the evening was of a high standard. The food was very tasty and a good choice for dinner that should cover most palates and being silver service on the first night was a lovely surprise. Being only a short distance from the town centre with ample car parking it was an ideal location as the weather was inclement. The only slight downfall was that the room was above the drawing room, where the entertainment was held and could be rather loud if you wanted an early night. I did think that the room and bathroom were quite small but it was newly refurbished and beautifully decorated. It does state on the hotel website that the rooms do differ in size, but as it was our first stay we didn’t know what to expect so next time could be different.
This is certainly the best hotel that I have stayed at in Bournemouth and wouldn’t hesitate to stay again.

I know the Miramar is a beautiful building with a beautiful garden, that is why I choose the hotel above many others in the area, however the hotel really needs to sort the hotels creaky floor boards out, especially in room 220, also smooth the bumpy carpet out in the room. we were both woken at 5am by the windows rattling,in the room, so for us it was not very relaxing in our room which we paid 320 pounds for. I also did not like the tap water left for us in a bottle I feel the price the customers pay for the room for 2 days, could have a bottle of mineral water left in the room for the guest on arrival by the hotel, it is much more appealing and hygienic. We also wanted to sit in the drawing room at certain times and a few of the tables had reserved on them, as a guest we did not know for what time they were reserved from, this was 2ish I asked a staff member and it was reserved from 4pm it would be clearer to other guests to have the time for when it is reserved from. Service at night could have been much better, our first night there we sat there for 50 minutes waiting for a member of staff to ask us if we wanted another drink, it was like we were invisible. I did not go to the bar because previously a woman behind the bar told me to sit down and they would come over to me they were extremely busy. However next day service again was slow in the drawing room and we could go to bar and order our drinks. For the money I paid, I felt it was not worth that amount, it did too me not feel like a 4 star room, which clearly it is not. I feel with the room I was given, the hotel needs to review its price for people, I have looked at other reviews for this room and it's not very good ...

The restaurant staff are the shining light of this hotel. Andre is a credit to the Miramar. His attention to detail is excellent and he works incredibly hard, never stopping for a moment.
Unfortunately, our perception is that the guests who are staying at the hotel are treated as an ‘after-thought’, behind the ‘walk-in’ customers. The restaurant and outside terrace were both understaffed, particularly during the Monday to Wednesday ‘eat out to help out scheme’. This meant that the meal service in the restaurant was at times very slow, with long waits between courses. Similarly, trying to get a cup of coffee served after our meal was a real task! At breakfast, staff were so busy that trying to get their attention was almost impossible. Staff work at such a frenetic pace that you feel like you’re imposing when trying to get their attention. This isn’t a criticism of the staff; they did the very best they could. However, management need to take note and rota in more staff to meet demand.
We were in two minds whether to cancel this year’s booking due to Covid-19, but having seen the protocols put in place at The Miramar, decided to go ahead as planned. The deciding factor was that (according to their social media video from 17th June) the variety of food in the restaurant hadn’t been changed, just how it was presented to you. This wasn’t the case. The exact same menu appears from Monday through to Sunday before it is changed. I have visited this hotel for each of the last 8 years. In each year previously, all bar the dessert choice has been changed daily. This is what I expect for a hotel that charges a dbb rate of £190 / night (double room). To pay the same rate for such a limited choice was in my opinion poor and should have been made clear prior to booking. I challenged this at reception and the alternative was to reduce my tariff to b&b only and eat off the Terrace menu. However, this would have cost me more.

All in all, the front facing staff were excellent, but those behind the scenes need to up their game.

Responded 16 Aug 2020
Thank you for your review and recognition of the hard work of our team. We are sorry that you seem dissatisfied with some elements of your stay. Firstly, we must highlight the fact that that we are not operating under 'usual' circumstances. We have very carefully implemented our 'Code of Action' to reopen the hotel under the Covid 19 restrictions, and therefore some elements of how we manage things are different from our normal operations. We have received excellent feedback from many guests who have worked with us as we endeavour to make patrons as comfortable and happy as possible without feeling oppressed by the restrictions. This has meant some changes in how we do things, including not offering the full menu range in Restaurant No 43. If you booked direct with us, the Reservations team should have explained that to you at the time of booking, and we can only apologise if this was not made clear to you. Our DBB room rate offers excellent value for money, where guests save money on dining. The team offered to reduce your tariff meaning that you could then choose to eat from our Bistro menu or dine out elsewhere if that was your preference. As you identified, this would have cost you more, which is why our inclusive rate represents such good value. We still offered a good selection of dishes, but as you say, it was not as diverse as it would normally be. Regarding residential guests being an 'after thought' - this is categorically untrue. Every guest is treated with the same level of respect and service, and the team do their very best to offer first rate customer care. We have been offering a booking only system as part of our current working practice and have had to turn a lot of 'walk in business' away. We are being vigilant with our spacing and ensuring that we do not overcrowd any area of the hotel. The Eat out to Help Out scheme has been very popular, and again we are only accepting prebooked guests. There have been peak times where it has been very busy and the team have done their best to avoid any delays, but at times service has been a little slower than normal, but we do have a full team working, including the management. To keep both staff and guests safe, we are operating on a different rota system, which is generally working well. The wonderful weather has meant that residential and dining guests have made the most of the opportunity to dine al fresco, and the terrace, deck and garden has been busy (but socially distanced.) We have tried to stagger times for breakfast and dinner to help keep the restaurant service running smoothly, but there have been times when this has not been possible. As you have stayed with us for 8 years, you will know that some things have had to change during the pandemic, but we hope that the time will come when we can fully return to 'normal and we look forward to your welcome return.

Hotel is a large Georgian manorhouse in a great location atop the cliffs overlooking the beach and a short stroll down the hill to town.
Our room was clean but as it's an old building, the floor creaked & there was a slight musty smell which you'd expect. Baylis & Harding toiletries in the bathroom and the usual tea making items on the dressing table.
We opted for a twin room and the beds were together like a king but with seperate duvets-perfect. The only downsize was the beds creaked loudly every time you moved!
We only stayed on a room only basis for 2 nights but used the bar when we returned from our night out. The bar staff were pleasant and even made me a cocktail after I confirmed the ingredients.
I think Reception should of told us about the housekeeping situation when we checked in as we didn't read the instructions left in the box in our room with a bath mat in it. We came back from a day out to find our room hadn't been serviced & having read the note, realised why. We're tidy people so it wasn't really an issue but communication should of been better.
Overpriced stay with parking fee added too!

Thank you for choosing to spend your anniversary at our amazing hotel. We are, of course, disappointed that you found certain aspects of your room to be below our usual high standards. The Hotel Miramar operates a continuous refurbishment programme aimed at improving our guests experience at every level. Unfortunately, our schedule had to be put on hold during lockdown. We are happy to report that the next phase of our hotel rooms refurb is due to start in November 2021. We have worked closely with our customers, industry experts and Bournemouth University to create a modern and comfortable bedroom concept suited to our location and history. Thank you once again, and we all hope to have the pleasure of welcoming you back to the Hotel Miramar in due course

We got the train into Bournemouth and walked to the hotel which took around 20 minutes. Taxis are readily available. The hotel has a big carpark if you prefer to drive.
The check-in process was quick and easy.
The room we were allocated wasn't the best. We had 206 which faces the carpark (Sea view is more as you would expect) however room 206 is right next to a noisy lift and situated above and to the left of the wedding disco venue. With it being wedding season there is no point going to bed before 00.00 in this room unless you are a deep sleeper as it's to noisy.
The room itself is adequate, the bathroom is small but again is adequate. There is a flat screen TV, kettle, iron, hairdryer and safe.
Because of COVID you are told when checking in that your room won't be cleaned but you can request replacement towels, shampoo etc. using a crate and form each day which is fine.
We paid for breakfast (£17.50 PP) although the menu states £10 for a continental and £15 for a full breakfast apparently prices were updated on Thursday August 12th but the menus are not yet updated. Although the food was nice in my opinion the price is not justified especially considering a lot of the options have a supplement fee. However if you choose not to eat at the hotel there are some really great options including Pic Nic Park Deli which we really enjoyed.
We also had afternoon tea. The sandwiches, cakes and service was great. I would recommend having it and if you're lucky enough to be in Bournemouth when the sun is shining it's a great location to enjoy it.
In the evening the bar staff are friendly and quick. The drawing room is a nice place for a night cap or to relax at the end of the day.
I have given a rating of 3 stars which is "Average" however the rating system goes from 3 (Average) to 4 (Very good). I'd like to add 3.5 stars for good as I think it was good but not great.
Would I stay here again - Yes.
Thank you to the Hotel Miramar for a lovely break. I hope the feedback doesn't come across as negative and is fairly reviewed by management.

Checked in to find our room is one of the few which hadn't been refurbished.
The decor being something from the early 1900's. The water pressure in the shower was beyond a joke and the ancient sash window near impossible to close. Dusty light fittings and filthy curtains with damaged rails leaving a gap when closed.

We checked in for a wedding and all of the other guests who paid the same price have modern freshly refurbished rooms.

When questioned, the staff refused to compensate and informed me that all rooms will be up to standard next year!

Safe to say we won't be staying again to witness that.
Best avoid this place for now

Myself, my hubby Jason, and Flora our little chihuahua doggy, stayed for a 4 night break at the hotel, in February, to celebrate my 60th birthday. We had stayed once before, just a few weeks before the Covid Pandemic struck in 2019. It was great to be back! We booked a sea view, dog friendly room, on a bed, breakfast and dinner basis. The food here is to die for, fabulous, on par in my opinion, with The Ritz and Savoy hotels in London, where we have dined. The chef has been with The Miramar for approx 27 years and may he be here another 27, as the delectable feasts he turns out are sent from heaven, not the hotel kitchen! Dinner and breakfast were always delicious. A superb Chef indeed. The room as mentioned, had a sea view and what a great view it was. Lovely room, comfy bed and a pod coffee machine a nice luxurious touch, besides the usual kettle. The Miramar is a hotel that oozes luxury and drinks and also afternoon tea are a must, to be taken in the drawing room that has wonderful sea views. We had the pleasure of a Complimentary Prosecco cream tea thank you so much Theo, due to overrun building work in rooms either side (no fault of the hotel) accompanied by a brilliant swing/ jazz band which were coincidentally appearing on my birthday, so what a great celebration it turned out to be for me. The staff here are wonderful. So professional, friendly and they also go out of their way to make your stay a glorious experience. Special mention and thanks to Magda, who brought in our endless supply of luggage as hubby is on crutches and I have health issues so can’t lift and carry. Magda, was also at times our server, and also couldn’t do enough for us during our stay. A lovely lady that deserves a gold star. Thanks also to Miguel who was so gracious and attentive, serving dinner to us in the bar area one night, as the drawing room where we could eat with our doggy, had a function that night. Becky behind the bar was lovely and also a server at breakfast (one of many talents) young blonde haired lady, who at times wore a navy jacket, being a supervisor/manager, but mucking in with everything. Also a lovely friendly dark haired server too, named possibly Lillian/ Lilly? The cleaning staff deserve a thank you too, as always replenished our Tea, coffee & biscuits with a smile. Hope I didn’t miss anyone out! Lastly, but importantly, Thank you to Theo, the hotel manager, who was wonderful throughout our stay and runs this wonderful team, all credit to him. We will be back time and time again, as so many guests are, having spoken to quite a few. The Miramar shines. The hotel has a feeling of splendour, coupled with its fabulous ‘sea views’ location, and the staff making your stay wonderful, with gorgeous food thrown in, whats not to like, or should I say adore? Treat yourself to a break here, you will absolutely love it!

I chose the hotel as someone I know had been coming for years. The booking was directly with the hotel. I asked that one of the rooms have a walk in shower due accessibility issues and for both have kingsize beds.

On arrival we were not disappointed with the appearance of this lovely classic hotel. Our rooms were large and we'd got the king beds we asked for plus a walk in shower in one of them. Both were newly decorated. They are well equipped with coffee & tea, a refillable bottle of water, safe, fan and extra heater if needed.

Our parents booked breakfast and evening meal for the three nights. They were pleasantly surprised at the choice and quality of the evening food especially due to cost. They've stayed in many hotels, in Bournemouth, over the years and stated it was some of the best they've eaten.

There's a good choice for breakfast with cooked food on offer as well as fruit & cereal. I'd liked to have a seen vegetarian option of the Dorset Grill.

Despite the time of year our rooms were very warm. So much so we needed to sleep with the window open. Regrettably, an air conditioning unit near our window was a little noisy.

Due to covid the hotel aren't cleaning the rooms on a daily basis but offer to do so if asked. For 3 nights we didn't see the need. Supplies a replenished by ticking a form and leaving it outside of the room.

All the staff we encountered couldn't have been more accommodating or friendly if they tried.

We would stay again.
