The Carrington House Hotel leaves guests with varied impressions; while its location is generally lauded for convenience, the atmosphere and rooms often face criticism for being outdated, with some calling for renovations and raising concerns about cleanliness. Though many find the amenities, including the entertainment and pool, to be satisfactory, the additional charge for Wi-Fi and dated aspects detract from the experience. The service quality also sees mixed reviews, swinging from commendable to disappointing, and while the hotel's value proposition is debated, some guests still consider it budget-friendly.

We decided to visit Dorset to catch the last of the sun before the Autumn weather arrived. When searching for a hotel, the majority under £100 a night were all Britannia branded hotels, having stayed at at another Britannia in Bournemouth in the past I know not to arrive with high expectations.

We deliberately booked the Carrington House Hotel due to it stating on the information section that it included free parking, so on arrival we were surprised to be told that the car park was full and we’d have to park on the street.

On arrival in our room, I found it to be clean and very spacious, but typical of Britannia the bed was uncomfortable and the room was neglected. I find it especially frustrating when the repairs needed are as simple as replacing the net curtains, but the Britannia brand are just too lazy to care.

Breakfast was by far the biggest disappointment, Britannia are using the Covid situation as an excuse to serve the most basic breakfast I’ve encountered on a hotel stay. I understand during the current pandemic it’s not a good idea to serve a buffet breakfast and I never went there expecting this, but what I did expect was a decent size breakfast with the basics I’m used to at Britannia hotels, instead what I got was a child’s size cooked breakfast with no fruit or cereal and a very limited menu to choose from. What I did notice at Breakfast was how the elderly are treated so much better than the rest of the paying guests, we were served last at breakfast even though we had been queuing for over half an hour, the elderly appeared to get larger portions of both food and juice and were constantly asked whether they wanted anything else whilst we were sat with a pathetic excuse of a breakfast and the tiniest cup of juice. Also they didn’t even get my order right, I requested brown bread but ended up with white.

I’ve had acceptable stays at Britannia hotels in the past but recently with the brand each stay has gotten worse. The one last thing that attracted me to Britannia was the decent breakfast but they can’t even do that right now. This place clearly appeals to the over 60s but maybe they should think about appealing to people who will provide custom into the distant future rather than the very near further if they’re lucky.

In regards to Covid-19 they’ve got it right with the cleaning in the rooms but whoever decided to close 3/4 of the restaurant and gather everyone into the entrance with limited distancing is just asking to spread the virus and lose their loyal guests.

We came here for a weekend getaway as we found this hotel on the cheap £49.

The hotel is not worth more then this, when we first went to reception the girl on the desk was rude and unhelpful. Online it says check in time was 3 and I was emailed saying check in time was 3 but when arriving they said check in time isn't until 4 and I had showed her the online page and she said oh they changed it and that was that.... I wasn't notified and had planned my day around that (not a massive deal) but she shugged it off and dismissed me. When arriving back at 4 the queue was massive and they only had the one person on reception so couldn't actually check in till close to 5. On arriving in the room we found that there were black bits all over the bed (unsure what it was pos dust) not a massive deal as it was cheap so just shook the bed off and carried on. There was dust on most of the units. No soap in the bathrooms, Beds very very lumping and springs were digging in most of the night.

They say they have car parking but the car park is jammed packed and you are forced to park on the street. (Not the hotels fault but an FYI)

They doors in the hotels don't have a slow closing mechanism on them so all night you hear doors slamming from all over the hotel.

My biggest complaint and the only reason I booked this hotel is the pool! Online it advertises that the pool is open and free to use but when arriving and looking at the pool it has been emptied and we were not told prior via online or at the reception. If we were told I wouldn't of stayed here.

Most of the time the rooms go for £149 a night and it is definitely not worth that amount so I urge you to think before you book.

Arrived here as part of a tour for a 4 night stay on a dinner, bed & breakfast stay. Our 1st room (87) was a standard double with TV, bath & shower, kettle and plenty of coffee, tea. Oh! and a copious amount of bed bugs! We were both bitten. My wife more than me. However, after mentioning this to reception, the lady apologised profusely and upgraded us to room 4. A big thank you to Claudia, who went out of her way to arrange this. She is the reason I gave the hotel 2 stars instead of 1.
Room 4 was quite a bit bigger and nicer. Although, we could smell cannabis in the corridors around the room.Beds and pillows were uncomfortable. Very difficult to sleep. We found the cleaners barely paid the room lip service, not vacuuming or cleaning the bathroom properly. We even had to get towels from reception, as the cleaners had forgotten.
Breakfast and dinner were ok, but basic. Soup was watered down, breakfast was recycled for putting in the salad for dinner.
The hotel was quite a walk from Bournemouth and Boscombe sea front, but we didn't have a problem with this, as we enjoy walking.
Summary.... Really good staff. Food, Mehh!! Hotel needs a good scrub!!

The hotel was like a third world hotel the rooms were filthy the staff are rude I was in a room for 5 days after I had a stroke I need a holiday so somebody said we'll book this hotel because it was cheap and it look good no toilet paper no room service to clean the rooms no dustbin in the rooms the bath was absolutely disgusting the swimming pool was closed the back garden was full within 2 bottles and cans and cigarette ings and they call it the kings garden a joke my whole 7-days experience was a nightmare I couldn't wait to get away the restaurant was fully booked by coaches that come in every night so you couldn't get anything to eat day or night you had to go straight into pool before you could get a decent meal and of course I am on tablets so I need to eat before I take the tablets my experience of this hotel was absolutely appalling it was one of the dirtiest hotels I've ever been in. I will give it no points I did phone up to complai.put was given an email that don't exist. If anyone is thinking about having a holiday in this hotel so long stay my advice to you you is not too. They don't even tell you you you have to come to the service counter to get your toilet paper to get your towels towels and the tales were so small you could just about wipe a baby in them. There is no wiping cloths disaffected wiping cloths that you can wipe the room down with there is no hand sanitation to wash your hands in the room . Not enough of sockets in the room we had to put the big kettle right next to the television to boil it to make a cup of tea so dangerous electric and water doesn't go together so anybody has got the right address so I can complain direct to the company I would be very grateful if they would send it to me as I continue to look for it

I work within the hospitality industry and manage the housekeeping team, this hotel need to train there staff on how to clean a room, there was dirty and dust in all parts of the bathroom and walls doors of bedrooms. When checking in at 4pm was told our room was not serviced yet by a receptionist that needs to have customer service training, I can tell you our room was not serviced other than clean bed linen and paper cups the kettle was full of water which is a no no. Yes the hotel is cheap but you have been closed for months did you not deep clean your rooms public areas and the outside. The owners should be ashamed, especially in this time we are in a pandemic, the public floor is disgustingly dirty. There was a good point the lady who served our breakfast who had fantastic customers service skills.

We stayed half board so had breakfast and evening 3 course meals included which was all nice food lots off people have moaned about the rooms being dated its not a 5 star hotel I will be back next year for another week stay.

The hotel is close to the railway station and only.a 25 minute walk to Bournemouth beach there is free parking at the hotel but its first come.

Went dho6rtly after hotels reopened here on the 12th of july for a 3 night stay, can honestly say covid rules were followed hand sanitizers all over the hotel, was only breakfast the only downside was it wasnt self serve. But thats to be expected with the current climate, breakfast was a set menu with plenty to choose from and table service. Also at present uou fo have to book a breakfast time slot 7.30/8.30 or 8.30/9.30, a big shout out to the eastern European lady with pink hair in the dinning hall went above and beyond to make our ajusted breakfast sittings enjoyable also to the patient reception staff there were a few guest who were rude and didnt seem to care the pressures they were under with the covid changes but still handled things professionally i certainly wouldn't want there job at the moment
Would definitely vidit again

Booked in for 3 nights oct 22nd to 25th, room was clean and it was explained that due to covid towels would not be automatically changed, but we could get them from reception. Stayed in room 96 which joined to room next door via 2 internal doors, the one our side couldnt be locked. On the 2nd night there appeared to be an orgy going on in the adjoining room which we ignored ùntil we couldnt stand anymore, at 2 am we complained to reception who came up and told them to be quiet, they did eventually at about 3am. Also the corridor smelt of cigarette smoke continuously.
We checked out next morning so didnt stay for the 3rd night, the lady on reception was very understanding and apologised as she was aware of the issue. She told us they would authorise a refund for the inconvenience but we would need to go through booking.com. We did this but booking.com contacted the hotel who initially denied all knowledge but after talking to the morning receptionist agreed. The problem is that even after 3 agents from booking.com getting involved we have still not received any contact nor refund from Britannia Hotels, what a farce.

The bed was not comfortable. There was no wardrobe in the room and not even a chair. I had to leave my clothes in my suitcase.
We had to sleep with the window closed as there was a noise coming from outside (like an engine) so we didn't sleep well as it was very warm inside the room.
We paid for the breakfast, so we arrived there 8:30 as we booked for 8:30-9:30. We had to wait 30 minutes before someone came to ask for our room number, then we had to wait another 30 minutes before someone took our order and then we had to wait more than 30 minutes to get out food so it's more than 1h30 wait to receive 2 overcooked toasts, croissants from Tesco and fake coffee. Food quality was not good. If you don't want to waste your time and your money, don't take your breakfast there. There is only one chef in the kitchen so it takes a lot of time to get your food. Many people had to ask for a refund of their breakfast as they didn't had time to wait.
Only one person working at the reception, so you might also wait for a long time if you have any question.

They have a free parking, but you can also park for free in the street.
Hotel located close to the city center and in a quiet area.

If you enjoy chewing gum on your headboard, stick on nails embedded in your carpet, the smell of weed wafting down your corridor, dust and dirt in your room and a scattering of miscellaneous crap on taped-together carpets, you’ve come to the right place! Oh, and not to mention the highly rude and unhelpful staff and a breakfast featuring croissants that look like something my spaniel excreted some months ago, a geriatric willy for a sausage and a snotty egg, this is the one for you!

We asked to move rooms after 30 seconds of arriving in our first room due to it being so abhorrent and were moved to a marginally better one. When politely pointing out our concerns about the lack of cleanliness and tired decor we were told it was a ‘budget hotel’ (i.e. shut up and lump it). Having paid over £180 for 2 nights, we beg to differ - there are far nicer hostels out there for less than this festering turd of a hotel.

We were meant to be staying for 2 nights but checked out after 1 due to the heating being on all night (despite it already being very muggy). We nearly left at midnight as it was so uncomfortable for both us and our poor dog. On calling Reception, we were told an engineer was coming out to look at the heating the next day as no one knew how to turn it off. However, on complaining about this to the manager in the morning, she denied that the heating had been on at all. Apparently we were the only people who had complained about the heat - while queuing (for ages) for our breakfast, we heard 2 other people complain about this, suggesting the manager has an interesting relationship with the truth or has possibly lost her grip on reality due to spending too much time at the Carrington Hotel.

For the cherry on top, my partner heard a young couple also complain about the heat. It transpired they had moved rooms due to this but were treated to a complimentary pair of knickers left behind by a previous Carrington victim. The ungrateful customer thrust the knickers at the Reception staff as for some reason she did not wish to accept this added extra. Some would say this casts doubt on the legitimacy of the ‘sterilised for your safety’ stickers stuck around the hotel rooms by the non existent cleaning staff.

All in all, this was a very disappointing experience and put a dampener on our weekend away. Despite receiving a partial refund, no apologies were forthcoming from the delightful Reception team. Approach with caution (and a hazard suit).

None within 5 minutes walk that I know of, but about 15 minutes walk down Boscombe chine will take you to the Neptune (which also has a Harvester restaurant) on the sea front next to Boscombe Pier. There are possibly others that are closer, but without the sea view!
