We visited this hotel for the weekend for a family wedding and decided on a touch of luxury which the Premier King room looked like it was. Sadly it wasnt. Apart from a lovely sofa which was described as a sitting area. Well it was comfy to sit on but to watch tv which was in line with the bed gave us both a neck ache and ended up sitting on the bed to watch it. A swivel option would be a good idea. The base sheet for the king bed was not king size and the bottom edge of it could be felt. Slippers, bath robes and a minibar were in with the price of the room. No slippers and no mini bar! Bath robes so rough couldn't be worn. There was a wardrobe but there were no drawers for clothes so lived out of the suitcase. Bed very comfortable although pillows had a lot to be desired. Breakfast excellent but coffee didnt look or taste much like coffee. Coffee machine in room which was good so decided to make 2 to take with us to breakfast on 2nd morning. 4 pods. Sadly 3 were decaff pods. Not sure why. It should have been the other way round for most people I think. No socket near coffee machine or kettle, and stale water in both kettle and coffee machine. The hotel is very convenient for central station and shops. Had an enjoyable stay but disappointed.

Hotel's Favourite
A wonderful 1 night stay. Welcomed by friendly front desk staff who sorted out some parking in the hotel car park Had a pre-dinner drink in the bar, welcomed by Dee and Poppy (first day), super professional and friendly service. Great quality and quantity of food in restaurant. Room clean and tidy and overlooking front road so little noisy at times, although England had just won 4-0, so to be expected.

We chose the Mercure Exeter Rougemont Hotel because it is directly opposite the Central Station, we were arriving by train and had planned a couple of railway excursions. My wife and I are both in our 80s and my wife has walking difficulties. We had booked a mobility scooter to be delivered to the hotel and stored in the baggage room. The staff were very helpful in discussing the arrangements for its delivery and collection though, as it turned out, my wife cancelled it. The city centre is relatively flat with frequent bus services and she managed without it. Our room was typical of similar hotels, clean and well decorated. It was advertised as having a private bathroom but with an en suite instead was better than expected. Another time we would look for a room with a walk-in shower as my wife couldn't get into the bath. Like similar hotels there was only one comfortable chair for double occupation. The desk chair was of limited use to us. Daily room service for our 4-night stay was suspended in response to Covid and staff shortages but that was not a problem for us. The food was disappointing - one breakfast with limited choice and no discount for continental and one bar meal where I was happy but my wife wasn't. For other meals we took advantage of the many eating places nearby. CurryCanals

I was surprised with the previous reviews left about the aesthetic of the hotel as may room is 1st Class; huge bed, newly decorated with a coffee machine and complimentary soft drinks. Jo who greeted me when I booked in was amazingly engaging and friendly so I will definitely be booking in again for my future trips to Exeter!

The rooms here are quite simple and but okay, except that the beds are so very hard. So hard that it spoiled the whole stay. Breakfast was good, the waitresses were excellent, especially the younger one who carefully explained everything and look our orders for eggs. The other problem is that the hotel has limited parking. Which means you have to drop your bags and then park the car a short distance away at the guildhall car park which is locked every night! Although it’s a short distance to drive to the guildhall, it’s a much longer journey back to collect your bags because of the new one way system around the hotel. Because of the beds and parking, we won’t be using this hotel again.

Thank you very much for taking the time to post your considered comments. Unfortunately due to covid concerns the council have temporarily changed the road layout and put a one-way system just down from the hotel. There are other car parks where this isn't a factor that we can show you next time you stay. Thank you also for highlighting your issue with the beds. They are relatively new beds and we receive very positive feedback however I will ask the team to turn the matresses as this will help. Many thanks again and thank you for your positive comments.
