With the need for accommodation on the day before New Zealand lockdown 25/3 we did a quick search & contacted Quest Albany & so pleased we landed there!

Our modern apartment was a good size for two of us, very clean, tv lounge & bedroom, kitchen area, hob, oven, fridge/freezer, washing machine, separate dryer etc, etc.

Reception open during the day & Dee (reception), Jim & Jun all very friendly and helpful in all aspects including offering a 2nd week (to 9/4) discount to ‘help’ with our lockdown situation!

Albany such a good area with local beaches 6-8km & local supermarkets, shops, at Albany commercial centre just 3-4 minutes drive (we walked as could not hire car in lockdown!)
Cafe, restaurants on the door step, but all closed of course!
Quest Albany also located very near to park/wild life reserves, so really good open spaces and bush walks.

Not particularly a tourist area, but for business, or base for visiting family or friends we could not have done better.

The hotel is hard to find if using GPS so trust your instincts and look behind the Albany Village. The hotel has arranged charge-back facilities with a good number of the local restaurants so the restaurant charges appear on the hotel room account. Reception staff were very helpful. Good protected secure parking for cars behind the hotel. Would stay again if travelling on business ie. using the hotel as a sleepover and not as a holiday venue.

I'm a fan of Quest accommodation and I think this is the best I've had so far. Tucked away in a very quiet spot, I found the rooms a nice size, spotless and very well equipped. After hours access was easy and so was booking and accessing the carpark. Happy to stay again

We stayed her one night..on the surface it looked clean but the studio apartment absolutely reeked of some kind of cooking oil ..fish oil. It permeated everything and was so strong the hotel had lit a scented candle to mask the reek which just made it worse. It was so bad and made our stay unbearable, I’d never stay here again.. when we raised the issue with the desk the next morning they gave us a mealy mouthed apology ..there was no one to talk to on arrival as we arrived for a late check in and the desk closes. We were going to a funeral the next morning and didn’t want to get into any wrangling. But please don’t stay here you won’t be able to sleep it’s so bad.

Response from Jim Park, General Manager at Quest Albany
Responded 1 Sept 2022
Dear David M, I was most concerned to read your review detailing your recent experience at the Quest Albany. I certainly regret the fact that you were not satisfied with your recent stay and I would like to extend my most sincere apologies for the clear disappointments caused. Your feedback does not reflect the level of cleanliness that we pride ourselves here at the Quest Albany. Upon investigation after receiving your feedback, we have found that our staff member has made an obvious mistake of not inspecting the room prior to your after-hours arrival. It was reported by our housekeeping team that the room had an odor due to a previous guest's cooking. Scent candle was lit to remove the odor and the room was left for another staff member to inspect however due to our own communication breakdown, one of our staff member had forgotten to complete the final inspection of the room. Whilst it is not possible to undo the past, I would hope that you consider giving us the opportunity so that we could redeem ourselves as a quality apartment hotel.

This is a lovely place to stay for a longer period of time, especially if you appreciate your own kitchen. Very clean, well kept and maintained, with lovely and helpful staff. Parking is also available on site. Would definitely stay again. A bit pricey for what it is, but I don't really know what the prices in Auckland are.

This was our first time to the Quest Albany. Had a little bit of trouble finding it as its one street back from the main road & slightly hidden as only 3 stories high. Check-in was painless for us but our friends who arrived later had to deal with locked box outside. We had the 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom apartment on the 3rd floor. We found it a very good size with all facilities that we would require for 2 nights. Good heating and very comfortable beds. Shops, cafes, restaurants, liquor store all very close by. Westfield was a bit too far for us to walk but is a $6.40 Uber ride. Definitely spacious enough for 2 couples with living/dining area where you can self cater or dine out.

Have stayed here a few times now and have always found the staff to be nice, the rooms to be clean and comfortable. Self contained is always a bonus and the hot chocolate is nice. Also hand to the diary (convenience store) around the corner.

Staff were also helpful changing a normal check in to a late check in and that process was also smooth as the box to pick up your keys etc is right next to the main sliding glass doors.

Slight far from Auckland CBD but if you are doing business within NorthShore City, its great! or if you are attending event in North Shore, its handy

Rooms are big, clean and quiet, back of the hotel is a lovely forest reserve, staff are very friendly surrounded by good restaurants. Only downside and is not hotel's fault, public transport is difficult to get. room rate is affordable

Dear Timmy08, Thank you for your kind feedback and we appreciate you rating us highly on most aspects of your stay. We are very fortunate to be surrounded by good quality restaurants and cafes where our guest can take advantage of chargeback facilty. As for the location of our property, we are located in Albany and is approximately 20km from the Auckland CBD. Although public buses are available to and from Auckland CBD, there are other transportation services available such as shared shuttle companies offering great service and fares. Please do make your enquiry at the time of your booking and our reception would be more than happy to assist and recommend. Thank you for staying with us at the Quest Albany and we look forward to being at your service again in the near future.

We returned to Albany Quest for a 5 nights stay in Jun, this time with our teen daughter and stayed in a 2 bedrooms apartment. We were very impressed with the big layout and full kitchen facility and our daughter commented that we could bake a cake right in that kitchen! This apartment with big balcony could easily house 4 adults.

Apart from easy access to get to the city and Devonport from where we stay, this time we spent more time returning to the Deli - Roasts & Chinese Foods (superb asian delight!) which we sorely missed after enjoying their excellent Roast meat (Beef, Chiken and Pork) with mix vegetables and rice (and not forgetting their crispy fried "Wanton", southern fried chicken) during our last trip to Quest. And oh, did I mention the Kell Park? It is just right beside Quest and we were simply amazed by the beauty of the park, and even make friends with the free roaming ducks there (yes, they are not afraid of humans, and will come ashore in order to get close to you)!

Endorsing the opinions of the other reviewers: Jim is a friendly and extraordinarily helpful owner/ manager who ensured we maximised our Auckland experience.

We rented a studio apartment for 3 nights and enjoyed all the facilities of the apartment: washer/dryer (incl a sachet of detergent); microwave; hotplates; dishwasher; plunger with coffee; all the cooking gear... and free Kit Kats!! The little extras really make you feel welcome. It was scrupulously clean and tastefully furnished. Compact but with a table and chairs, and lounge chair we found the space adequate for 2 people.

Albany is in a semi-rural setting on the North Shore so the views (over the roof tops) are pretty: lush greenery and hills. Within 5 minutes walk is a day spa, an art gallery, restaurants and shops.
The down-side to this location is $100 taxi fare from the airport. Better to hire a car (eg $79 for one day for a Camry which I hired from Avis North Shore, 3 Saturn Place, Rosedale, North Shore 627 Phone: +64 (9) 443 1501- VERY obliging owners.)

With the car, there is no down-side to staying at Quest Albany because the city/ thermal pools/ Devonport etc are only 20 minutes or so away, and you'd be driving through the beautiful countryside, past the horses and cattle, making the Auckland experience not just-another-city-stay. There's also a large Westfield shopping centre 5 minutes drive away.

Do you have a airport shuttle?
Answer from ExperiencedOz

No. You could either rent a car, or catch a bus from the airport to the city, and then a Northern Express (NEX) bus to Albany bus station, then walk or take a cab...
