Detailed Reviews
This small castle has to be experienced. The bedrooms are clean and spacious, even a half bottle of wine waiting to be opened on arrival. Breakfast is typical French and plenty of coffe. The grounds are spacious and well kept, there is a swimming pool for use in the summer and in the autumn a roaring log fire in the lounge area which made it seem cosy. Excellent wifi and easy parking. The host spoke excellent English and was friendly and attentive.

A beautiful XV century castle situated on a hill just north of Usseau. We received a warm welcome from our hosts, who spoke perfect English, who took time to give us a full tour of the castle and it's history.
The room was comfortable and well decorated in keeping with the age of the castle, with wi-fi throughout.
Breakfast in the large dining room was excellent, with a good selection of local and home made produce including their own yogurt.
A perfect place to stay if you want a unique quiet and peaceful experience.

We stayed at the place only one night but it was enough to fall in love with it! Beautiful nature and the castle. The hotel rooms are not in the castle, but in the buildings around and they are nice and spacy. The bathroom was big, the beds comfortable and the service friendly. The breakfast basic. It's a pity it rained and we could not enjoy the beautiful terrace by the lake. A tripple room with two separate bedrooms for 120€ was reasonable price including parking, breakfast and WiFi.

i haven't actually stayed here but i inquired at quite late notice about a room, to which the owners replied. i was unable to get back to them in time (my wallet was stolen and had to spend the day in the police station) to which i received a sarcastic and mildly abusive email. its a shame as i was quite looking forward to visiting this property in the future but that email has just left a bit of a bitter taste in my mouth.
so i would give this a miss personally as there is an abundance of amazing places to stay through out france that are better value and a lot more welcoming

One night stopover en route from the Charente to the Caen ferry - perfectly located a few minutes from the A10 motorway. Quaint bedroom, but warm and comfortable and with a lovely view; bathroom a bit dated but clean and with everything needed - and excellent water pressure! But the highlight was the most amazing (set) meal - for €48 a head inclusive of aperitif, several appetisers, starter with white wine, main course with red wine (and plenty of it!), dessert, coffee/tea, and even chocolates to end! - and all at a standard of cooking and presentation to compare with the very best restaurants. Our hosts, Leiven and Carine, were incredibly friendly and welcoming, and the chateau itself is amazing. We will most certainly be back.
As others have noted, you need to be able to climb twisty stone staircases to get to your bedroom, and you must reserve the evening meal in advance!

We saw this last year as we drove by, and decided it would be a good place to start our holiday this year, and weren't disappointed. Lovely room and ensuite, nicely decorated and equipped. We did have a swim in the pool, but the weather was a little cool and it started to rain, so didn't stay too long.
Lovely meal with about 5 courses with plenty of wine and several different canapés to savor beforehand. Breakfast was also very good. Very amiable hosts who spoke good English, although we were trying to get our French started! If we had any criticism it would be that the price of the dinner is quite steep.

On arriving in Usseau I thought we might having a problem finding the Chateau. No way,it is Usseau. It is truly wonderful and very well run by the hosts Lieven and Carine. It is everything you expect from a Chateau. A 4 poster bed in our bedroom and a massive bathroom. Downside 90 stairs to get up to the Turrett which is where our room was located. Breakfast very simple but excellent, more especially the home made yoghurt

This is a small, pretty, privately owned chateau conveniently located near to the A10. It is curated by a very gracious and hospitable couple who work hard to make your stay as pleasant as possible. A highlight undoubtedly is the tour of the chateau. So, if it is history and atmosphere that you are after then this is the place to stop. However, please note that there is no restaurant despite one being mentioned on Trip Advisor and on Booking.com This is not the case and we were a little disappointed to find out (after we had booked) that dinner is not offered between June and September. We had been looking forward to kicking back and having a leisurely dinner without having to drive any more. We were offered a picnic at E18 per head (this too has to be ordered in advance). It consisted of platters of meat/cheese/fish and pasta salad with a little fruit. Wine was extra at E15, you could have red, rose or white so choice was somewhat limited. There is no restaurant in the village either so a drive of about 7k is required if you would like to go out for dinner.
Another point to note is that there is a stone spiral staircase and you will need to climb a number of steps to get to reception and then (in our case) another 60 to get to our room, so the chateau is not suitable for disabled guests.
We enquired about the pool and were told that the water was green so didn't investigate further!
Our room was very atmospheric and comfortable and the bathroom superb. The continental breakfast was good, especially the homemade yogurt, so all in all a comfortable nigh at a `b & b.

The Chateau is a true fairytale castle inside and out. The hosts were delightful, generous, welcoming and hospitable. The food, evening meal and breakfast cooked by their daughter in law was simply out of this world.
If we are ever travelling nearby, we will be back and have already recommended it to our friends.

For a second time, we visited the Chateau for a few nights on our journey to the Mediterranean. The castle is wonderful, the family members keeping the castle are always friendly, warm and helpful. The rooms are remarkable and clean. One can spend the day walking the idyllic landscape and relaxing in the castle gardens. We dined at every opportunity in the Chateau where the generous fresh breakfast or the four course dinners are among the finest dining experiences we have enjoyed. What a special place... we'll be back again.

I’m not sure you would have to check with them. We were under the impression we could order dinner until after we had booked. There was a notice in the bedroom to say a set dinner could be ordered at E48. There is no restaurant just a dining room with one long table seating about 12 people where breakfast is served.
Mr.
There is carpeting in het whole castle.
For hygienic reasons we can not accept dogs.
We hope that you understand.

Hej Jette 😄
Jeg er selv endt her på grund af udsendelsen på TV2. Og jeg kan konstatere ud fra billederne at dette ikke er Angel og Dicks fine Chateau. Så tror vi må søge andensteds 😅
