5 stars given as owner went above and beyond in terms of service, fresh plums, lots of tips for first time visitors and allowed us a late check out.
We stayed in the garden view cottage which was cosy and humble, perfect location being less than 10 mins from the local shop, cafe and Irish pub
Medlands beach just 5 minute from there, perfect for swimming, kayaking and paddle boarding.
Just ensure you take lots of cash (preferred method) as there are no atms available on the island

We rented two places on the property. We were out most of the time. Michael was a lovely host, he's had an amazing life and I don't get sick of his stories! ! The unit with the views was very comfortable with two loos, a good kitchen and great views and outside areas. Would definitely stay again.

We flew to Great Barrier island for Easter weekend on Great Barrier Airways and stayed at the Barrier Oasis. Michael is a very considerate, generous and attentive host and did everything possible to make our stay a happy one. Mike told us to just come into his kitchen and help ourselves to anything we needed; like spices, pasta, utensils etc!
Our large apartment had two large decks and wonderful sea and mountain views from every window. There is gas heating and also a lovely fireplace and a big supply of dried wood which guests are encouraged to use. There is a fully equipped kitchen with a big range of spices, herbs and pastas.
The Oasis used to be a boutique vineyard but Mike gave this up in 2005 because of a back injury. But guests are most welcome to wander through the wine making rooms and walk through the disused vineyard. Michael still has quite a big supply of his last vintage, a red. Just mention me and he will give you a free bottle! Íts getting a bit old but is still highly drinkable.
All electricity at the Oasis is from solar and wind power which is backed up by diesel generator. Cooking is gas. It all works very well.
The Oasis is walking distance from beautiful Tryphena and the islands best bar and café.
And make sure you check out Mikes Scottish Highland cows, he is very proud of them!
