Detailed Reviews
There is no way we could explain just how wonderful our first two nights in New Zealand at Admirals Landing was. First the location is perfect- 100 yards from the ferry to Auckland, and the view of the city is spectacular. Devonport is even more charming than what everyone says and frankly an oasis from activity of the large cruise ships that were anchored in downtown Auckland.
Joy and Howard are everything you hope you run across when booking at a B & B. Joy is a walking encyclopedia on New Zealand and her love of country is endearing. She took us for a tour of Devonport! Breakfast is wonderful and Howard joins in to add whatever Joy may have left out. They are helpful with recommendations and arranging things. Due to a misunderstanding on our part with the ferry schedule on a holiday we could have missed a 7am connection in Auckland- well Howard drove us to where we needed to be! It was 6:30 am!!!
The room we were in was great . Everything you need is there. The bed is comfortable, the linens ironed and perfect, WiFi easily available, view of Auckland incredible, deck for breakfast charming. There are two rooms and you can share breakfast with the other guests or eat privately. Joy makes it comfortable either way you chose.
We are here for two weeks and this introduction to NZ was more than anything one could hope for. Thank you Joy and Howard.

Fabulous, small, privately owned, eco- conscious B&B. Owners Joy and Howard offer the best personal service with attention to every detail. The perfect location is right across from the water. We felt totally safe walking around at night. You don’t need a car or taxi here which saved lots of $$. Everything you could want is a short walk- the waterfront, beach, groceries, restaurants, ferry, bus, liquor store, shopping district, hiking trails and museums. Walk across the street to grab the ferry to Auckland, other islands or hiking excursions.
We arrived at 8 am after an overnight flight. Our hosts, Joy and Howard, happily welcomed us with great coffee and set us up despite the early arrival time. After other guests left, we were upgraded to the Waterfront Suite. There was a wonderful view, cool breeze, nicely ironed linens, comfy king bed, lots of pillow choices, bar frig, microwave, French press, coffee/tea and milk, a modern bathroom, free laundry service, fresh flower daily, chocolates on my pillow and the most amazing and knowledgeable hosts. What more could anyone ask for?
The breakfast was plentiful, tasty and timed to meet our daily plans. We had 10 great days here in a quiet and peaceful environment. The best part of all is Joy herself. She is an amazing woman with vast historical, plant and local knowledge. Howard is an avid golfer, sports follower and military historian . Our experience was great.

After three years of not seeing my son who lives in Auckland due to the pandemic, I was finally able to fly from the USA to NZ and I'm so grateful I found this B&B. Joy and Howard are the greatest of hosts and the location was right across from the ferry to Auckland's central district. The main street is also just a short walk with shops and many restaurants. I had everything I needed and then some! The complimentary walking tour given by Joy and Howard was a special addition. I would definitely book this again!

This is the best B&B we have ever been to. Coming from Germany, we felt very welcomed by Joy and Howard and enjoyed a great introduction to NZ culture, tradition, and heritage. Our family stayed in the two lovely rooms and were served a fantastic breakfast! This B&B in Devonport is a great starting point for all visits to downtown Auckland being located directly at the harbor for the 12 min ferry into town.
Having enjoyed a great time, we recommend a stay here 100%. Antonia

Lovely stay over the weekend with our lovely hosts who have vast experience and knowledge to be shared in interesting conversations. They made us feel welcome and special with clean rooms, awesome views, yummy breakfasts and beautiful fresh flowers, as well as high-quality chocolate bars. Furthermore, they accommodated our needs with great care.
Terima kasih banyak untuk Joy and Howard, semoga kita bisa menginap lagi di tempat Anda berdua. Sampai jumpa di lain waktu.

The other reviews tell it as it is. Personal attention, nice room and one of the best breakfasts we have ever had. With downtown Auckland being dug-up staying in Devonport makes a great deal of sense particularly at a great place like this.

What a wonderful introduction to New Zealand. Joy and Howard were supreme hosts. The bed was very comfortable, the breakfast yummy with Howard’s poached eggs eaten over toast-NZ style, great local fruit and fresh pastries. I loved getting a flower from Howard each morning. Joy is quite the ambassador. She is a fountain of knowledge plus her guided walks were wonderful. Her recommendations for sights and directions for our day in the city were invaluable. And of course, the 5 minute walk from the ferry is an extra bonus.

We have just just spent 4 wonderful days at Admirals Landing and it was very hard to leave! I had chosen this lovely accommodation specifically, preferring the comfort of a homely guest house and I was very glad to have found this beautiful heritage home and fabulous hosts in Joy and Howard. We had no trouble sleeping, the bed and pillows suited us really well. Breakfast was a real treat, with fresh fruit and a range of local produce to choose from. Thank you Joy for the informative walk around Devonport, it is a lovely village with a fascinating history and amazing architecture. Howard's gracious daily offering of a stunning flower from the garden, was much appreciated. The ferry from Devonport to Downtown Auckland is a short and relaxing trip across the bay. We would have no hesitation in booking again or in recommending Admirals Landing to others.

We enjoyed a very pleasant two night stay in Joy and Howard's delightful home which overlooks the Devonport ferry wharf and the Auckland CBD across the harbour. The accommodation was very comfortable as was the quality bedding. The rooms/bathrooms were all spotless. Breakfast on the landing was a highlight. Joy and Howard are great hosts and made sure our stay exceeded expectations. Joy's knowledge of the local area is exceptional and her guided tour up Mount Victoria was another highlight of our stay. Highly recommended.
