This is about the 40th hotel/pub/inn that we have stayed at in the last few years and basing it on welcome, atmosphere and value for money, this is the best we have stayed at.
We were welcomed by a young gentleman( with a goaty beard)who could not have been more helpful and even offered to take our bag up to the room 4 for us which rarely happens these days.
Our room was on the first floor and was extremely clean with plenty of tea and coffee making facilities, an excellent large shower and a really comfortable bed.
We went down to dinner and sat in the dog friendly bar area and ordered some food.
My wife had the Lamb shank which fell off the bone, I tried a piece.
I had the 21 day rib eye steak with a flat mushroom, tomato, potatoes and 2 large onion rings.
The chef got it all absolutely spot on...I asked for a medium rare steak and got exactly that...beautiful and the peppercorn sauce was a winning combination.
The staff were exceptional and the lady behind the bar was a credit to her profession, so welcoming and helpful.
There is parking available for about 15/20 cars and I believe there is camping to the rear of The Holford Arms.
An outstanding homely little pub with brilliant staff..........and an excellent fire too!

Can't recommend this hotel enough! Loved it!
Great location, easy drives to Tetbury, Westonbirt Arboretum, Badminton, Castle Combe, Lacock and others. Parking right outside the hotel.
Room was big, bed was the one of the most comfortable I've ever slept in!
Steak night (2 massive ribeyes, fries, salad + drink each) for £35 all in was great value and delicious. The dinner menu is tasty takes on the pub classics and all the food was lovely (including the included full English).
Great beer selection, really friendly staff, homely cosy pub with log burners and good atmosphere but not too busy or loud.
All in all, it was the absolute ideal place to stay, easy five stars!

Ideally situated barely a mile from Westonbirt arboretum, the Holford Arms is a wonderful, friendly pub with fabulous food. Appearances can be deceptive; behind the pub is a large outside area housing several bell-tents, wooden chalets (some still under construction) a camping area, a large outside eating and drinking area, space for a function marquee, but as the whole space is an orchard, a vineyard, a vegetable garden, every time you round a corner you discover something else!
The homegrown produce is used in all the food preparation as well as being available to buy to take home. Apples are pressed on site for juice and cider.
The breakfast was "continental" style; croissants & pastries hot from the oven, muesli and plenty of fresh tea or coffee.
Wood burning stoves at both ends of the bar, local ales, and all Covid-safe.
Excellent.

Beautiful new Cabin in lovely surroundings. The cabins are basically in the (very large) pub gardens so very close to food /drink as required. They overlook a landscaped orchard which is camping pitches so may not be as peaceful at peak times. But, they have been beautifully designed and fitted out and the terrace is lovely to sit for a drink on a nice day. Breakfast hamper was well stocked (included milk). Parking space right next to the cabin.

Personally, I loved the room. Just my style. The four poster bed was gorgeous and it seemed to swallow me up ☺️
But above all, our host was nothing short of a hero. Really helped us out and gave us advice when we were having trouble getting transportation to and from the wedding venue. If you're going to a nearby wedding, I strongly advise that you pre-book a taxi. There was next to nothing available and it was extremely expensive, so be prepared to foot up quite a taxi bill.
The continental breakfast was simple but did the trick. Don't expect full English or anything huge, you get given some gorgeous pastries/tea or coffee, and you can help yourself to toast, fruit and cereals.
It is a little rough around the edges, and I get how some people with very high expectations might mark it down. But I found it charming. Thank you for the stay!

Thank you so much for your comments, I love that you found us charming, we pride ourselves on being relaxed and friendly, I am sure your comments will be helpful for others needing taxis, we are quite rural so this can be difficult and we do advise booking in advance, we are glad that we could help you with this though. Hope you may stay with us again!!

Worth the visit,
Booked as a last minute stay in the Chalet “The Shack”
Quaint and comfortable sleeping area, stayed at the grounds for our visit. Staff were polite and helpful (even down to them allowing us to pick some fruit for the trip home and giving us cartons to take them in)
Breakfast delivery was a welcome surprise. Will visit again!

Recently stayed in one of the Bell tents at the Holford Arms, glamping. They have done an incredible job of making the site both family and adult friendly.
The facilities were brilliant (clean hot showers), huge outdoor bar area and the bell tents were so thoughtfully kitted out with a comfy double bed and cafetière for coffee! Breakfast was lovely! Would absolutely recommend and will without a doubt be returning!

Simply the best roast going. Generous portions, unctious meats, perfectly cooked vege. No pretention. You truly cannot beat it with the friendliest serving staff and locals around.
Always great for a Friday or Saturday night as cannot recommend the burgers and proper pizzas enough, though husband usually opts for a steak. If I could make one suggestion for improvement, said friendly locals can get out of hand with the noise and language, so this isn't a place I'd bring just anyone and that's truly a pity.

On arrival the exterior of the pub was dirty and unkempt. The entrance was unclean. On entering the bar area there were no customers at this time but tables were strewn with dirty glasses and crockery, there was also a distinct smell of dirty chip fat. On being escorted to our room I noted that the hallway stair carpet was extremely dirty, window sills and surfaces were dusty and littered with dead flies with little regard for cleaning.
On entering our room the curtains were drawn, I presume to disguise the tired and grubby room. The bedroom window was dirty, the sill littered with dead flies and dust. The carpet was not only worn but badly stained. The room was littered with cobwebs which I understand can happen in an old building but this was not an accumulation from when the room was cleaned. My daughter went to the toilet, it appeared to have been used and not cleaned. The bathroom again was tired and had an extremely low level of cleanliness with dead flies and moths again in the shower.
After a short discussion we decided that we would not be comfortable staying in this establishment. We made our way to the bar and I spoke with Callum. He didn’t dispute that the room was not clean or attempt to come and look with us. However, he did look on his laptop and said that there was a four poster room available, which was actually the room we had booked and paid for!
At this point and taking judgment from what I had seen in the pub, the hallway and our room I was satisfied enough to know there would be no improvement in the level of cleanliness. I asked about a refund and Callum said he would need to speak to ‘Alex’. I asked to speak to Alex myself and Callum went to find him, he returned without Alex. He then advised there would be no dispute to my refund and that I needed to progress this through booking.com but I would receive my refund within 7-10 days as it can take a while to process.
After speaking to Booking.com on Saturday they advised that The Holford Arms had agreed the refund over the phone with them but they were awaiting written confirmation. I have since chased this daily and was advised that the pub was not responding to phone calls or email, and today that staff were deliberately disconnecting the call.
I finally spoke with the Landlord William Robson regarding our issues who conveyed he was only willing to refund 25% of the room charge as he did not believe there was any issue with our room. In response to all of my issues his only response is that it’s a country pub, to which I have stayed in plenty. Non with this poor level of cleanliness. We left the establishment after being advised that we would receive a full refund, this is also very poor customer service for them to now to go back on their word.

We stayed at the campsite for one night after a trip to the Westonbirt Arboretum. We were able to secure a last minute place due to a cancellation, which the staff were nice enough to phone us up about. Its a lovely, spacious and calm campsite with a beer garden, good food (veggie/vegan options available) at the pub, good showers, chickens wandering around and a fire pit. It was very convenient for cycling to Westonbirt Arboretum (10-15 mins) and the staff were very friendly and cheerful. I can't wait to stay here again when visiting the Arboretum in future!
