Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

look, this is a fantasic setting, right by the sea, way way off the beaten track - so take everything you need, fantasic fishing/boating and best of not too crowded.
But, there's new management and the place isn't the same, too the point where I think I won't be going again.
Who knows things might get better, i hope so, so watch this space i suppose.

Camping sites are right on the beach front so the views (particular sunrises) are gorgeous. Bear in mind that this is the East Coast and is very exposed to the wind!
Camping ground hosts are very accommodating and friendly. Camping amenities including the toilets, showers and kitchen are within very close proximity. Dogs are allowed as long as owners are responsible! Would definitely recommend this place to stay at!

What a beautiful spot. We've stayed here before and is always a great stay. Pitched our tent right next to the beach and listened to the sound of surf at night. The new owners were amazing, very friendly and helpful even to the point of pegging our tent when the wind got up and we were out. Will be back for another stay. It is one of the last true kiwi camp grounds❤️

Ākitio itself was a blessing, a true TREAT with a treasure ocean supermarket!
Unfortunately the camp ground and it's permanent occupants gave "off" vibes a sort of "We run this place" feel - Uninviting!
A woman accused my 9 year old daughter of stealing dishwashing liquid from the main kitchen it was ours, but she refused to listen to my daughter who then came back upset, embarrassed and sad.
Definitely won't be staying there again but will be back in Ākitio for sure!

This site is principally for ;vocals from the surrounding community who come here to fish. Nice clean site with a kitchen and clean showers with hot water. We had the ocean about 5 meters from the back of our camper!
We had dinner from the small store/ Campsite office. They offer fresh fried fish and chips (fries) that were DELICIOUS and INEXPENSIVE! Yeah. We both ate well for NZ$13!.
Lovely friendly helpful staff and great value.
It depends on which way you go in to the "town" but one of the roads is a gravel road that is good and has some great views. Enjoy

Room Tip: Wifi is free but from the town so reception is random. Price was right!~!

Have been here before and was a nice place to stay.
This time however we were forced to move out in the middle of the night due to a certain middle aged yob camping there and his friend who lives there permanently letting off fireworks repeatedly from 11pm to gone midnight terrorising my dog even though I asked them three times if they could quit it. Apparently I didn't ask him nicely enough, well frankly I shouldn't have to ask you at all at that time of night. It's not a special event just you deciding that you and your mate rule the roost and do what you want and then threaten violence when challenged about your actions. The new owner lives in site and did nothing about this. Won't be going back and definitely do not go here unless you enjoy fireworks and drunken yobs at midnight!

lovely surprise arriving in this small charming area. Very friendly an welcoming. Was too overcast for the tent so was very lucky to be able to rent a bach for two nights. Right on the beach which was super cool for us. Would definitely go stay here again.
