Hilton Vacation Club Lake Tahoe Resort South receives a variety of feedback from guests. While many appreciate its prime location near attractions, opinions on the rooms are divided, with some guests finding them comfortable and others pointing out cleanliness and decor issues. The service quality is inconsistent, with commendations for staff friendliness contrasting reports of unresponsiveness. The hotel's value is a point of contention due to high rates and mandatory fees. Despite mixed reviews on the atmosphere and amenities, the location remains a highlight.

Having just spent time in Park City at some of the nicest resorts we've ever stayed at, we definitely felt let down by this resort. Upon check-in, they ushered us to a special VIP room which was really just the timeshare sales office. Having just driven 10 hours, I had very little appetite for sales gimmicks. The parking situation was downright dangerous as cars barely have enough room to turn into spaces. They also did not shovel/plow the snow in the lot (probably because they can't get the trucks in there). The pool and jacuzzi situation was just pitiful. There were nights we couldn't even use the jacuzzi because it only fits 6 adults. The pool could've been a great alternative but it was barely heated (probably ~70 degrees) so it was mostly empty. There was no ski valet at the resort so skis had to be lugged & stored in our room. Unlike most other timeshares, these units do not come with washer/dryers, which is communally located near the elevators. The kitchen is incredibly small considering it's listed as a full kitchen. While we thoroughly enjoyed our vacation, the resort played a very small part in that overall experience.

This hotel is within walking distance to so many dining and activity spots which was the best part. During the holiday season our room was almost $1000 a night and for what we got it was not worth it. We called for room service 3 different times, and each day nobody showed up. At the minimum we just had to keep calling to ask them for more supplies and fresh towels. I’m sure for that price there are better hotel spots in the area.

PARKING IS TERRIBLE. I, along with many other guests, were circling the parking lot for 30-45 minutes looking for a parking spot, but it was full. They informed us that’s always the case and the overflow parking lot is a 2 minute drive across the street behind the 5 Guys, even if you’re a paying, registered guest. Many guests did not feel comfortable with that option. The person in charge (NOT the manager) offered to cover valet parking for the night but even then guests wanted access to their vehicles and also not give up their keys. One guest said he just parked up front of the hotel anyway and kept his keys. I asked for the information to contact the General Manager, Jennifer Jenkins, left her a voicemail and text message with photos and video of the site. The security guard did not care to even patrol the parking lot to make sure all the cars were permitted, even though every guest was required to register their vehicles. The parking gates were broken and not closed, so plenty of people (non registered guests) were just parking there. I asked if they were going to check permits and call tow trucks and the hotel staff said no, even though the signs all over the property said otherwise. We chose this Hilton property because we usually stay at Hiltons when traveling and loved that it was so close to the water, but the parking is a nightmare. Guests didn’t want to lose their spot so they felt they were stuck to anything in walking distance.

Centrally locate with beautiful, comfortable rooms. Easy to hit the slopes or cruse the lake. Property is spacious with beautiful views. The staff was very accommodating and the property has its own restaurant and bar as well as an indoor out door pool.

This hotel was terrible from the moment we arrived. Our room wasn’t ready and after a long car ride we couldn’t check in until after 5! A man at the side desk started trying to sell us a time share, very pushy worse than a car’s sells man! We weren’t even allowed to park on site we had to drive 2 blocks away to park our car in an unsecured location. The lady assured me there was a gate and it was 2 story but there is just a bar and the second story is connected to a street that any person off the street could just walk through! (See attached picture) When we finally got in our room the carpets were soaking wet and the room was very musty! The next day we learned no one comes to clean or service the room. He gave me Covid excuses that the rooms could not be serviced, but I’ve stayed at many hotels and even places that don’t come in to clean still came by to see if anything was needed. Like trash? Towels? Toilet paper? Coffee? Shampoo? We stayed 3 nights with a family of 4 and of course we would need more than 1 nights worth of these things. We had to constantly call the front desk for bath towels & pool towels (they don’t even keep pool towels by the pool)! Every time we would call and request something towels, toilet paper, coffee it took over 2 hours to receive! The absolute worse customer service. Save your family vacation and Do Not Stay Here!

First impressions of this hotel were pretty good. My husband checked the beds for bedbugs as he always does before we started bringing our luggage into the room. Everything looked very clean and he was satisfied so he began to unload the car while I began getting our young children ready for bed. Before turning on the water to run a bath, I noticed something in the tub so I picked it up with a tissue. It was a BED BUG. Alive and well. Trying not to panic, my husband put it in a cup and brought it down to reception. They apologized, gave us a new room and that was pretty much the end of it. Housekeeping stopped by the next day to apologize, but that was it. Finding a bed a live bed bug is no joke and I certainly would have expected some sort of acknowledgement from management. There was not even an offer of any sort of compensation, no dinner coupon. NOTHING. At checkout my husband said he felt we should be compensated for our troubles and they did give us a small refund. But really, we should not have had to ask. We tried to make the best of our stay, but getting past the bed bug and the worry about bringing anything home with us was difficult. Once we did get home, we spent days cleaning everything. I mean, everything. We emptied out the entire car, including car seats and slowly heat treated it all. We had to purchase a heat box designed to kill bed bugs and anything that couldn't take the heat was thrown away. So people, please, always check for bed bugs. Don't trust any hotel to be bug-free, not even the Hilton.

The resort was clean, had a great restaurant and wonderful bartenders and very accommodating. The concierge was knowledgeable about the area and where and when to go to the various beaches. They also gave us tips on reserving a parking spot for Sand Harbor Beach. The valet parking was excellent and simple! Just text your car's number to the phone number they provide and you'll have the car within 15 minutes. Most of the time it was already at the curb when we arrived at the front entrance.

My only issue was that my unit was a deluxe unit with 2 queen size beds and would have slept 4 people without an issue. However, RCI has this as a 2 person unit, so we paid two exchange fees (we thought we needed two units because we had 4 people) AND the resort charges a resort fee per day, so we had to pay a resort fee for 2 units. This is not the resort's problem. They have told RCI many times that they have 2 types of Studios, but .... unfortunately, RCI has not corrected their information on their website. I have put in a complaint to RCI and hoping they will compensate me for what is their error. So my suggestion to you is call the Resort before booking two units for four people.

I was very excited when I saw that Hilton had bought this property and I was going to be able to use my Hilton Honors membership on this vacation. I was very disappointed by some of the things in the hotel, considered I’ve stayed at Hilton Grand Vacation properties in the past. First, after driving nine hours to the hotel from Vegas, I was told that I couldn’t park on site (I’m a Silver member), and I had to walk across the street and park in a garage, which is difficult to do with 2 small children (5 & 10 months old) for day-to-day activities with the car. Inside the hotel, it is a labyrinth, but they do give you a map. The room itself that we were given (132B, a 2 Queen suite with kitchenette) was very underwhelming considering the cost of three nights was almost $1000 after taxes and fees I understand the Hilton says they’re going to renovate the property, but they need to do it to justify a nightly resort fee and the room rate. Upon arriving at my door, it wasn’t even fully shut, which scared my wife with the kids at night. The door didn’t shut behind us as it closed, so it had to be slammed or pulled shut every time it was opened. Most of the furniture much older than the photos on Hilton’s website indicate. Also, the pillows on the bed were square-shaped, not even full standard pillows. The shower worked well, and the kitchen was very helpful for us with our need to clean baby bottles. The closet was very small and we couldn’t fit suitcases inside the closet, making the room cluttered and very difficult to move around. The things about the hotel I liked were the pool for my kids, the friendly bellhops outside, and the access to the Marina for 4th of July fireworks. I would stay somewhere else until Hilton fixed this place up because it was overpriced for someone not in their timeshare/ownership HGV program.

Responded 19 Jul 2022
Good afternoon Talkie518, Thank you for taking the time to share a review of our resort on Trip Advisor. My apologies for the delayed response. I know the offsite parking is not convenient, but we do provide shuttle service back and forth from the parking to the resort. We also do not charge for parking onsite or offsite and most of the larger resort in Tahoe do charge. As you mentioned renovation of our guest rooms is coming very soon. On the resort fee we offer many services. We have fire pits, we have barbeques and provide tools, we have an activities program and of course full Wifi at no charge. I was very disappointed to hear about the issue with your guest room door. I will certainly make certain that issue is addressed. Thank you very much for your kind words about our pool, our location and especially about our friendly bell team. We are very proud of the outstanding service they provide and do hear many good comments. Please accept my sincere apologies for the problems you experienced and we do hope for a future opportunity to serve you. Warmest Regards,

They sold us the package to stay 3 nights again for $200-300 so long as we met for a sales meeting. For the first 9 months, they were unable to access the calendar past a couple months to book our stay, and then they didn’t have the dates available that we were interested in except for towns like Laughlin, and then our time was running out so I rushed to book but my husband couldn’t come, so they wouldn’t allow us to book. Now time has run out and we are out the money. Never again will we stay at a Hilton. The rooms are worn out too

Just checked in today for a NYE ski trip and so incredibly disappointed from the minute we saw our room. We booked a two bedroom suite which is completely false advertising. This is a one bedroom suite and an adjoining studio with kitchenette. The rooms are connected through a small vestibule that does not have a deadbolt to the hallway. I am traveling with two children, ages 8 and 2. I cannot have a 2 year old in 1.) separate hotel room that 2.) has a gas stove and 3.) has a door going to the hallway of a large hotel complex that does not deadbolt shut. This essentially makes the second suite not safe to use and instead the two kids will need to sleep on the pull out in the living area of the one bedroom suite. This is not advertised that it is not a true 2 bedroom suite but rather a one bedroom and a studio connected by a non-locking space. We asked to be downgraded to a one bedroom and reimbursed the difference and were told no. This is not a safe property for families of young children. For $900/night the options to stay elsewhere are plenty. Do not fall for the false advertising on the 2 bedroom units.

Sorry for the delay in response but the beach is about a three minute walk from our main entrance.

Good afternoon Tyler, Our pool is an indoor outdoor combo. We keep both sections open unless their is snow or ice, but even then the indoor pool and seating areas are open. We have onsite and offsite parking and if occupancy is high our onsite is reserved for our members and owners. The offsite is a block and a half away, and we do provide shuttle service back and forth.
