Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We stayed here from 23-27 December with our family group on 2 adjacent sites over Xmas.
The location is beautiful with a sheltered lagoon on on side and the ocean on another. The beach across the lagoon at Pataua North is a good surf beach.
The sites are of a good size and we had 5 couples comfortably on 2 sites. The sites we had were powered and had a water tap.
The toilet/shower block and kitchens were always clean and tidy. The showers had water and were 50c for 3 minutes so $1 gave you a very decent shower.
The camp owners were helpful and friendly, and policed the site well. The nice at night time was very low. On 26th December the camp changed in that massive groups arrived and it was packed with a festival atmosphere.
Overall we had a great trip and we would come back again.

Friendly staff. Location is awesome. Best thing easily, is the two options for swims. The kids will love it and thus so will the parents! Playground too was a bonus. Not many facilities if we were staying longer. My only drawback was the snack food, we had a pie and muffin and threw them away so $10 in the bin. The dinner was much better; hamburger and hot dog all good.
Super friendly and safe.
I was a bit disappointed by the rubbish everywhere, that’s campers to blame and not in the staff alone. Shame recycling was on a main thoroughfare.
We would still recommend and we would return.

We stayed here in April and it was fantastic! Loved the surf beach. The play ground was so good to let the keep just cut loose! We went in character which made it so much fun. The kids enjoyed the flying fox and a walk over tye bridge. The kitchen was clean and the showers hot, staff very friendly so all in all it was fab.

They regard the deposit as a hostage. If you want to update your reservation earlier than arrival, they will forfeit your deposit and ask for another deposit for that. Terrible gold digger. If you consider going there, you might as well go through their unfair policy. Don't go there.

Don't even bother with this place. The staff are incredibly rude! They charge $10 for any visitors (not staying the night just catching up with friends for a drink). We had an awful run in with them and would never recommend them as they are just awful people! Shame because the location is spectacular.

Management changed this year and everything went to custard. New manger 'Jo' is a muppet and couldn't organize a beer in a brewery. We've been camping here for years alongside other families (20yrs) and every year we book ahead for the following year, so that we can reserve our current camp sites.

However this year, Jo booked our camp site WHILST we were on site, and DIDN'T consult with us - we're REGULAR customers!!! During our conversations with Jo, we explained that the previous manager "Lee" would always approach the regular customers and offer the sites for re-booking for the following year. Jo's response was "first in first served!!". This is appalling customer service, no business acumen, lack of loyalty and no integrity.

If management got their priorities right by losing the "first in first served" attitude, they'd maintain a healthy client base with repeat customers who will sell the benefits of this camping ground.

We're happy to move onto other camping grounds and are happier to hear that the other long term families will be following.

Since talking to other camping grounds we've confirmed that standard practice is to offer your regular customers the opportunity to re-book before opening the bookings for others. As we all know 80% of your business income is generated from 20% of your loyal customers. Where is your loyalty Treasure Island NZ, furthermore where is that iconic Kiwi camping spirit ???

Response from TreasureatPataua, Owner at Treasure Island
Responded 21 Feb 2019
SLIGHTLY ABRIDGED: Dear Dreese005, With the camping season having quietened down, I am now able to respond to your comments. I have thought carefully before replying. Your comments are unfortunate, sadden me and do deserve a reply. Firstly your disparaging personalised remarks directed at our Office Manager are uncalled for. We have procedures to follow, designed for fairness to all our campers and our Office Manager was operating within those procedures. In fact you omitted to say that she offered you another site (larger, within the same locality), which you declined. You have been camping with us for 3 years, thank you, but that doesnt confer any rights of reservation to you. We have many campers who have been with us for many more years and they all respect and understand this. We aim to ensure all campers have an enjoyable stay and will want to return but we never guarantee they will have the same site. There is a sign on entering the Office, very visible and very clearly states.."the Proprietors reserve the right to have the final say on site allocations". To date the way we operate, our customer services, facilities, hospitality and integrity is testament to the many years of repeat customers which gives us the healthy client base you refer to. In relation to your ratings you gave us....in the "many" years you have been with us, you never mentioned any of the above, yet we welcome and are always open to constructive feedback. In response to your unfair and cutting remark about us being "money hungry" ...we are a small business whose opportunity for making our annual income is 90% over the Christmas and Easter periods and is very much subject to weather. This income carries us through the entire year enabling us to perform continuance maintenance of the grounds and facilities for the next season. ....And finally as a testament to implementing our new procedures, it has resulted in a record number of confirmed bookings for 2019/2020 season, thanks to both our repeat and new campers. We developed this family Caravan Park 35 years ago for all to enjoy and I am fiercely proud of what we have achieved. Nita Joseph - Owner

Long drive north in new campervan, lost in Auckland arrived on site in dark, out of gloom came a lady on a quadbike, guided me to a dry powered site as most of site had been flooded. Fan heater not working!!! she provided screwdrivers & assistance. In the morning checked how I was due to frost and gave me two great cheese scones.
The shower block was good & clean but being winter not many other campers but the beach and local walks are great, the facilities for children in the summer months look good and Nita & dogs were certainly one of the friendliest campsite managers that I met on my 5 week Lions tour of the New Zealand sites. Thankyou.

Another Northland gem we had the privelege of staying at and which we hope to return to soon. Nicely laid out with hedges partitioning the varius groups of sites so the whole campground doesn't feel as big as it actually is. We went with a bunch of other families and had a group of sites to ourselves and were separated from other campers so it felt like we had the campground to ourselves. The onsite shop is suprisingly well stocked.

The surf beach, a short walk away, is beautiful and is almost exclusively used by the campers, so is never very crowded. It has small waves suitable for kids boogie boarding. Pataua North beach apparently has bigger surf but we never made it there during our stay.

The inlet is great at high tide - the water is crystal clear and very picturesque. And the bridge is SO much fun for jumping off of.

The "mountain" is nice for a walk and offers stunning views across the coastline. Pic attached from the top of the mountain looking down onto the surf beach.

Only giving 4 stars because the "hot" showers were not very hot, barely luke warm when we were there. Also there is only 1 shower block with 4 showers to serve the entire campsite, so there were often sizable queues to use them.

We were recommended Treasure Island camping. We hadn’t been camping since our kids were born several years ago.
Treasure island in my opinion has it all for those who love the water.
It has an estuary where you can play in, jump off a walking bridge at high tide (where you can fish ideal for kids if you supervise) and a nice beach.
The staff at the camping ground were very helpful. The facilities were nice and clean.

Stayed here camping over the Easter break. Lovely big sites and super clean bathrooms and showers. Playground is great has flying fox and massive slide as well as swings etc. Ping pong outdoor tables also available. Surf is just over the hill, or estuary swimming is beside the camp ground.

My reason for 4 stars simply comes to price. Our 14 year old was charged as an adult. So it cost us $400 for a four night unpowered site stau.
