Well not sure what else to say - we have been staying here for many many years and it remains what it is - one of the best country house hotels in the UK.
The style is just right and no where really matches it - the rooms lovely with great furnishing and wonderful bedding. Bathrooms can be small - but all perfect.
The dining as the long held Michelin star attests is fab and wonderful personal wine advice from Dominique.
Needless to say all the staff are kind, thoughtful and professional.
You will have your favorite room or rooms.
Of course there are things which one would do differently but that’s a personal matter!
Top tips - check out is at 12noon so why not have breakfast in your dressing gown in your room - available until 10am rather than in the dining room which stops at 9.30am!
Also check out the beautiful garden and walled veg garden. The heated outdoor pool is warm in the summer. Great local walks.
Practicalities Large bottle filtered water in the room All bath room toiletries you would expect by Penhaligon Shortbread biscuits No tea or coffee making facilities in the room - but just order it!

We stayed one night in the Fern Room. Well wow, just wow. Everything was simply perfect. Amazing room and view over the water, ever from the bath! There was nothing amiss, great lighting in the bathroom, sockets where you need them, magnified make up mirror, comfortable (huge) bed. We enjoyed a relaxing afternoon in the lounge by the fire before our fantastic dinner. Chatting to fellow guests, all of whom were returning so that says it all really. We are not really foodies, typically we avoid anything that involves tweezers but this was a real treat. The dining room was intimate and well set out, not on top of your fellow diners. The food was amazing, cooked to perfection, the service was faultless. Great wine selection by the glass and charming sommelier. Wish we had booked for two nights as I struggled to decide on my choice of lamb (Hubby had venison) both delicious. Outstanding cheese board served by a very knowledgeable young lady Tabby, wonderful English cheeses accompanied by a superb glass of port, the perfect end to a perfect meal. Breakfast - ditto, nice full English though we had to ask for proper toasting bread (not that sourdough that takes the roof off your mouth!) which duly arrived with no fuss. Signed up for the mailing list and can't wait to return.

We recently treated ourselves to a short break at Hambleton Hall and stayed in one of the lake-view Master rooms (Middlehurst). The young lady on reception was extremely delightful on checking in and took us in person to our room, which really generated a 'wow' upon opening the door. A fantastic vista looking over the gardens and Rutland Water. We were lucky enough to enjoy a late September swim in the heated outdoor pool, which really made our break. Spoilt by unseasonably warm, sunny weather, this was a lovely experience. In the evening we enjoyed a delicious dinner in the dining room. Food and service were top-notch. The young cheese-waiter was very helpful when helping us to choose which cheeses we wanted to savour. Overall, it was a relaxing, delightful break and we will soon be booking again for next Summer.

This was our first visit to Hambleton Hall, we booked a 2 night special occasion stay and had our dog along too. Booking went very well, our first choice of dates was not initially available but due to a fortunate cancellation we were able to move to the dates we wanted. I read up about canine rules and emailed ahead to request a crate for our room, this was all set up when we arrived, along with with a dog towel and bowl. We did mention to the reception we had omitted to bring dog waste bags and she advised she would assist but these never materialised ( we found a few floating around on our morning walk the following day, so whilst litter picking resolved our issue too) Our room was on the second floor, serviced by a very compact lift. The room was lovely, it was accessed via an L shaped corridor, the bedroom off to one side, a large bathroom to the other. The bedding and towels were very opulent, the decor delightful. A Dyson fan was provided but didn't do much to cool the rooms, fortunately there were plenty of windows to create a small breeze. We did have a problem trying to get a hot shower, if we turned the dial to where it indicated as hot, it came out cold, we found if you turned it to 2 o clock it came out warm, after many attempts we had almost given up. We were asked to order breakfast the night before, with the option to eat in our room or the restaurant, as we had our dog we opted for in our room both days. We chose to only eat in the hotel restaurant on the 2nd evening as the menu wasn't extensive and were advised it wouldn't alter much between evenings. The first breakfast arrived on time and was all of a very good standard, the second was not a good experience, it arrived late after chasing it up, both the beverages were undrinkable, the hot chocolate had curdled and the coffee way too strong. There was a hair on one plate of food and the poached eggs were watery. The Michelin star meal was very nice and service good. Sadly it was cut off abruptly when we were advised our dog was barking, for those with canine companions remember to cancel the turn down service as our dog was in her crate, as requested, but was clearly shocked when housekeeping came in to close the windows, blinds etc. I would say our biggest disappointment was the overall staff service, my husband was left 10 minutes in the bar waiting for someone to serve a drink, we then requested a second only to be advised there were on more chilled drinks of our choice. We also felt somewhat pushed out by a party event taking place in the hotel on the Saturday afternoon so we stayed up in our room out of the way. As other guests have commented we noticed that staff do also have a tendency to be a little more attentive to returning guests or diners. On checking out we had been billed for someone else's meals and drinks from the Friday, this was duly refunded when highlighted but ensure you check carefully when checking out. It was a shame that small things are somewhat letting this wonderful place down.

We stayed here last night and had mixed results. We stayed with the dinner bed and breakfast deal, checking in was very smooth with a very attentive and knowledgable lady. After getting ready for dinner we realised the toilet was blocked, so reported this to reception who said they would deal with it. Just prior to dinner we were told they were unable to fix it but would offer to move us, they dealt with everything moving all our unpacked stuff into the new room. Dinner was okay at best, only a choice of four starters and four main courses, the pate was good but the main course of pork was very mediocre desserts were very good. Not worth the £102 pp. the wine menu is very good but a 15% service charge is made on the bill for all drinks which were already costly. When we finally went to our new bedroom it was very nice, and they had moved all our stuff but the blind in the bedroom area was stuck and the other blind the pull cord was completely broken. Obviously not what we were wanting, so we’re unable to see the sun rise or a view we had chosen this hotel for. The bill for dinner, bed and breakfast for two people was nearly £800 for a very disappointing stay.

We booked an overnight stay for the day after our wedding (our minimoon). We booked The Willow Room which was £595.00 pp incl. breakfast. The room was very well appointed with beautiful views over Rutland Water. Whilst we were very happy with the room, I had to ask for body lotion as there was only one tiny bottle in the room. We also didn’t know where the slippers were (hidden in a drawer) and that was another trip to reception. Neither of these things are ‘major’ but at this price point I would have expected perfection. The evening meal was over seasoned (particularly my husband’s) the wine waiter was rude and was completely unhelpful, e.g. when asking for advice, his manner was somewhat dismissive and he stated, you need to be quick as I have other people to serve….., not the service that I have come to expect from Michelin star establishments. The breakfast (which we had as room service) was average at best, again, over seasoned.. This was not our first visit and would we return? Probably not, alas Hambleton is living on its previous reputation and didn’t make us feel special at all, despite our final bill being almost £1000.00 for a one night’s stay.

Back to reality after spending a few amazing days at Hambleton Hall. This hotel is just an oasis of tranquility and as soon as one crosses the threshold you can feel it! Aaron’s creations in the restaurant are wonderful with such a knowledge of what ‘works’ with his combinations of flavours. Everyone works so hard at Hambleton Hall to ensure that we all feel so special and this must be difficult at times! Really highly recommended.

We were blown away by our stay at Hambleton Hall last month for my mother in law’s big birthday (on the evening of which we used HH’s private dining room for our party of ten). Our expectations were high but these were even exceeded. The food was exquisite (we’re still talking about it), the staff were just amazing (always there to help, when needed but never obtrusive), the bedrooms like staying in a beautiful home from home. Highly highly recommended - and even the awful weather didn’t spoil our stay. We were still able to walk around the stunning grounds. The icing on the cake was when I left an item in our bedroom and the hotel posted it back to me without charge. HH really is a remarkable place which we very much hope to return to soon.

In May this year we booked a two night stay with breakfast and dinner for the beginning of September. We looked forward to our much needed break. I liaised with the hotel regarding times for pre dinner drinks followed by a table for two in their restaurant on both nights. On Sunday at 8.30 pm I received a phone call from the hotel to tell me that, as they were very busy, our later dining time was now fully booked and we would have to be at our table by 7pm “at the very latest”. I was disappointed, our cocktail hour is an enjoyable time for us, a time to wind down & relax before dinner which would have been the highlight of our stay. I told the member of staff (who was never rude, just unhelpful) that we did not wish to be rushed, nor eat too early. She said she was merely “managing our expectations” and would have to speak to the restaurant director.
Well Hambleton Hall, we are more used to our expectations being met at establishments such as yours, (or often exceeded), not merely managed. I cancelled our reservation.

We stayed for 2 nights for an anniversary and although the hotel is a very good country hotel, we were disappointed in the level of service and general care and attention we were expecting. We last stayed ten years ago and thought that all aspects were excellent. The first issue was that we had expected that our cases would be carried upstairs for us, indeed my husband had a tip in his pocket to cover this. There was no porter in evidence so we carried the cases ourselves. Although the food was good, every course was either rich or creamy. The waiting staff were good and attentive. Ten years ago we appreciated and have talked about this often to our friends, the staff seemed to serve, disappear and quietly reappear from time to time to top up wine, clear plates and serve more courses. This time they were much more obvious, waiting at the end of the restaurant in a huddle. The wine waiter did a hard sell on us for a dessert wine which was not really needed. At the end of the meal, we were served a special plate with chocolate desserts and "happy birthday" written on the plate. This would have been lovely if indeed it had been one of our birthdays! One of us only had 2 courses and were charged for three. Small details I know but all adding up to a feeling of disappointment.

We have a number of disabled visitors to our rooms and restaurant but we do not have any ground floor rooms and we are not fully compliant with disabled spec because of the nature of our listed building. Delighted to discuss individual requirements. Call reception.
I am sure that Hambleton Hall does Christmas dinners but they are probably booked up by now. Why don't you call or email them and ask. I hope that you are successful.
Best regards, Susan
