Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This was our first night on the Otago Rail Trail, having ridden from Clyde that morning. Staying across the road at the Lauder School B&B, we wandered over for a G&T in the shady garden of the Lauder Hotel, then back again for dinner that evening. Fantastic hospitality from Vicky, who was practically running things on her own, with Knobby busy with farm work. Completely unphased and with unfailing hospitality she not only greeted us, took our order, managed other large tables, but also cooked the meal. Our party had the battered fish and chips, 300g steak with mushrooms, and thin crust pizza. All ingredients were home made, tasty and well presented. Making room at the end for chocolate brownie, it was a taste sensation. Great hospitality, genuine interest in their guests and great value for money, we would highly recommend Lauder Hotel.

We had an evening meal and drinks here after riding the Rail Trail from Clyde. Our friendly publican was very busy but very efficient, and the meals were genuine country pub tucker beautifully cooked and presented. Four of us had the fresh fish either battered or pan-fried and delicious either way.
Although busy and without his usual courtesy van, our publican found another vehicle and returned us to our accommodation.

We will definitely visit again when next in the Lauder area.

Gnocchi was very tasty and nourishing after a day on the rail trail. Nobby provided a friendly service at the bar and the cook was very accomodating, fitting in our order before she went to play darts in Omakau. Local dart night on a Wednesday was a hoot.

Great home-made meals, with local wines. Thoroughly enjoyed the whole dining experience with three friends as we rode the Otago Rail Trail. Interesting and amusing chats with the publican. Local Pinot Noir was enjoyed by all of us.

We had dinner here on our third night on the rail trail. Excellent fish and chips, friendly barman and a warm and inviting atmosphere. We would happily return when we are next in the area. Would recommend a meal to anyone stopping in Lauder.

Lovely place to stop for the night in a genuine country hotel whilst cycling the Central Otago Rail Trail. Hosts were lovely and food was delicious. They catered for a celiac in our group which was great for our rural location.

We thoroughly enjoyed our evening meal here; the food was full of flavour and all sauces etc were home made. Vegetarian friendly too. An added bonus was the publican who provided a professional service.

You won’t expect it here but the food is great and the price low.
The owner has a lot of very nice beers on the tap and also great wines to join your diner. There’s no wine list but the owner knows everything about the wines he has in his cellar.
It is very nice talking with him if you have time.
Very recommendable for diner. We slept some where else.
