Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We loved our stay at the Shearer’s cottage . Private and stylish with a lovely private vista Timo was very accommodating and gave us some farm produce to enjoy . The fire place was great on cooler nights . Would visit again absolutely.

We were booked into pear orchard lodge after our camper van broke down Timo and his wife could not have done more for us the room was clean comfortable. The facilities were spotless The gave the run of the kitchen. The service even extended to allowing us to leave our luggage until we could pick it up later And also saved our lives when Timo found my wallet Thanks from 2greatful Brits hope you go from strength to strength Thanks again

It has been a crazy season with a lot of pressure on accommodation in the Top of the South. We are pleased that we could help by offering you some beds until your camper was up and running again. Enjoy the rest of your trip!

A hidden gem in Hope near Nelson, NZ! After our tramping during 3 full days in Abel Tasman National park (which is only 1h drive from the orchard), we relaxed in this oasis of pear trees, passion fruits, sheep, chicken, etc. Beautiful sunsets on the deck with a local glass of wine along with our amazing host Timo's personal story made our stay the most memorable. Incredibly well-designed and spotless rooms and common areas are a great reminder to come back and stay longer next time. Thank you Timo for having us, we'll be back !

It was brilliant to have you guys staying with us before you adventure in the Abel Tasman. We're glad you enjoyed it and that the experience left you with lasting memories. It was fun to hear French around the lodge (and for me to try some of my rusty language fragments...) We look forward to welcoming you back one day!

I needed somewhere to stay for one night - just ver night and all of my usual haunts were booked out. This was more than I wanted to pay but had not a lot of choice. It’s a beautiful setting wth fabulous views - large kitchen and fab outside seating areas. Stayed in a king bedroom upstairs with a shared bathroom for 4 rooms. The room was beautiful but essentially a bedroom. Everything was very clean. It was slightly noisy in the night as could hear next door room talking. Earplugs were provided. All in all a good stay - slightly expensive considering a shared bathroom but stunning setting does make up for this. Just make sure you have a few hours to sit and enjoy it.

We're glad that we could offer you an alternative to your usual haunts and that you enjoyed our setting and the wonderful views. You stayed with us at an absolutely crazy time when there was no accommodation available within 300km because of a major backlog caused by ferry cancellations in Picton. In response to this crisis, where some people had to sleep in their cars, we opened up an additional bedroom that we usually don't make available. This will have put extra strain on the lodge infrastructure and we apologies if this has impacted the enjoyment of your stay. Usually just two, max three of our standard rooms are sharing the generous family bathroom and there is always a separate toilet avaiable. It pays to book directly with us to make sure you get our best rate.

We stayed 4 nights at The Pear Orchard Lodge to meet up with some friends who are touring the country in a campervan and were in Nelson. I’d elected for one of the ensuite rooms as I don’t like sharing a bathroom with people I don’t know (yes, fussy aren’t I!); however for a big group the set up would have been ideal. There’s a large communal kitchen and a lovely outdoor seating area which you can use too. We didn’t cook but saw several fellow travellers who did. I would describe the bedroom as rustic – it had everything you needed but the furniture was quite - well, rustic! For example the wardrobe was old fashion and tiny and there wasn’t much space to put your clothes. However it was very comfortable and Timo our host was lovely. We hired their electric bikes for a day for us and our friends and he helped us plan a route.

Thank you for your feedback. The Pear Orchard Lodge is indeed ideal for big groups hiring the venue exclusively for a memorable getaway. Most of our guests enjoy the bespoke design of the lodge which is indeed quite different to a standard motel setup - this includes a mix of modern and antique furniture. Great that you got to take our new e-bikes for a spin on the Great Taste Cycle Trail! This is a new service that started offering our guests this season and it proves to be quite popular... ;)

This is my second time staying at the Lodge, this place is perfect for the adventurer traveler as you are already on the outskirts of Nelson for early starts, the Lodge is quiet and well appointed. The beds are super comfortable and the place is spotless. Looking forward to staying there on my next trip to the Tasman Region.

We stayed here three times while bikepacking in the Tasman region. Couldn't be improved, from the quiet, rural yet handy location, Timo's helpful hospitality, extremely well-appointed comfortable lodgings, beautiful outlook, and delicious breakfasts. Highly recommended.

What a great place to stay. Rustic and spacious with great facilities. Country setting but close to town. Suited our group well, and rooms were set up to suit our mixture of couples and singles. Ideal for exploring the Tasman area. Having our groceries delivered prior to our arrival was great as we only had to top up with a few items for our 4 night stay. Hosts friendly, welcoming and helpful but not intrusive.

Our room was the Cottage, separate from the main lodge. The big plus was the fact that this is part of a working farm / orchard. The hosts and their 3 young kids are all very friendly, but also give you loads of privacy. This was roomy and super comfortable. The bed and ensuite were great. There's a little fully-equipped kitchen in the living area. This came with fresh eggs, milk and pear-juice from the farm. They also let us pick fresh pears from the orchard and passionfruit from the vines just outside the door. We were allowed to wander round the farm, meet the animals and look at the great views over the valley. The bedroom area is divided from the living area with some very cool big sliding solid wooden doors, looks like they are upcycled from somewhere on the farm. The big triple glass doors open out to overlook the native-bushy gully, with fruit trees and natives mixed in all round. There's a sheep paddock right next door, woke up to sheep grazing near our bathroom window. We had a very lovely and relaxing stay, we were allowed to checkout late as well which was very handy for our plans. We are definitely coming back here, it makes all the motels and hotels I've stayed at in the past seem cold and clinical. Thanks so much Timo!

Wow! Thanks for your comprehensive review! Awesome that you enjoyed your stay in our Shearer's Cottage. As you said, it is a completely different proposition to staying in a standard motel or hotel. I'm glad you noticed the doors! I actually made all the cottage doors myself. ;) We look forward to your next visit!
