Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Absolute dump. Don't stay there, felt very vulnerable the whole 14hrs we were there. Very run down, the facilities were very clean on the day/night we stayed but that's it. Had to contact owners via txt, unavailable to speak to directly. No contact for 5 hrs after we arrived, while waiting for a wifi code. Left the following day , will never go back nor recommend to anyone.

We drove through this camp to stay one night on our way to Wellington . Although the lady was very friendly on the phone we quickly decided to carry on as it was rather run down and tired looking. We did not feel comfortable parking to stay here so kept driving to next town. It could be more appealing with some much needed TLC we thought. Dog friendly was the attraction but there are others close by to choose from which we did

We have stayed there a few times in two years, in our caravan. Yes, the facilities are disgusting. However, a young couple have now taken over and the day after they arrived they were straight into cleaning the showers. They have plans to remove some of the trees. They will work their way through the camp. It will take time, but they will turn it into a lovely camp and they deserve a chance and some time to do the work. A lot of the bad element have moved on.

This place is nothing other then filthy, from the dirty unusable camp kitchen to the flooding bathrooms, to ant filled cabins. The exterior hasn't been cleaned in years . Ended up using 2 cabins here both stunk and that's putting it nicely. Ones door didn't lock properly so could not leave any belongings in cabin. The owner know this it's not a new issue she admitted just wiggle it a bit hmm. My car was keyed full car on first night we stayed. 3rd night at 9pm at night had to move rooms on returning to a cabin full of ants after spending money to clean them up it was to the point they ways and floor were covered in black trails. The beds were filled with them and the owner couldn't put her self out to either come look at the damage to my car or bring me a key to the other cabin after she got her money she just did not care. We had a bloke circle the cabin banging on windows and torches shone in windows at night. The camp is filled with drug effected permanent site keepers I was even offered products by the locals. Drug deals on site but the owner denies this. I hated every minute of my stay. Unfortunately we were stuck at this dump due to event and unable to get in else were. But would recommend this place get a visit from the health department. Because even the cleaners will tell people how discusting it is and how the owners won't repair anything. Keeping in mind the purple shampoo stayed on the wall in same shower out entire week so showed the level of cleaning

We had an overnight stop here in the camper, choosing a site out the back under the trees and away from everyone. This is a friendly camp, made up of casual campers such as ourselves and quite a few permanent campers/residents. It was a good experience. It was cheap, clean and well set up, with free hot showers, good kitchen facilities and a small communal lounge with TV. Don't come here if you are a snob though. The long term folk were pleasant and very interesting to talk to, each having their own story to tell, if you wanted to socialise. It's a healthy reminder that we are all very fortunate to be in NZ during and after the Covid restrictions. I'd stay again. It's great value for money.

Stayed a night in a cabin on cycle tour. Great communication prior to our one night stay. Needed to change the booking. Warm welcome on arrival then shown into small warm clean cabin. Fridge heater & TV.
Kitchen was great. Clean and secure. Free clean showers. Quiet and friendly all round. Even let us leave the car overnight next night while we cycled to Palmy and back next day. Highly recommend. Great value.
Thanks Kyra 😊

Very concerned reading other reviews but these guys dont deserve any of it. The people that own this now are really turning the place around and making it awesome! Showers and toilets where very hygienic and the kitchen area was better than the foxton top ten one. The owners very friendly and helpful. Overall a great stay and I will return.

The refurbished cabins are great, the other that we stayed in needed the refurbishment. There seems to be improvement works around the site, but think that what appear to be permanent residents detract from the site. Nice owners/management.

omg, please people don't go there, we booked thru there website which looked lovely, upon getting there, it is so run down, the ladies toilets/showers are disgusting, full of mould, I took pictures of them, I could rub the mould off with my jandel, its revolting. it has potential to be a great site, but looks like hillbilly land. where people came but couldn't find there way out. There were shotgun cartridges outside our area. we didn't even put the awing up in case we needed to leave in a hurry.

Oh and for the lake to canoe around, forget it, it is just a puddle full of dirty water

NEVER GO THERE EVER!!

Cold, dark, damp, musty, and muddy. Surrounded by conifers the winter's sunshine fails to penetrate into this campground leaving it muddy, frigid and the rooms musty. Caravans sit growing mold and rusting as eyes peer at you from behind ragtag curtains and trees. You feel like you have fallen onto the set of Deliverance as one of the permanent residents scurries through the night screeching profanities at you from the cover of darkness. Lock your doors for goodness sake lock your doors. - "Don't ever do nothin' like this again. Don't come back up here."
