Well-deserved 5 stars and.. Thank you 💪
The room is beautiful, with a spectacular window overlooking the Langhe landscape.
Professional and impeccable service.
High standard traditional food. The starters are delicious (raw meat, veal with tuna sauce, cardoon flan, celery, toma and apple salad). 2 first courses (perfect tajarin and risotto). 1 second course (very tender veal cheek). Trio of desserts, all good too.
At super honest 37 euros without wine, 40 with a good house wine.
Super recommended.
This is not luxury, but very clean and comfortable with own toilet and shower. We found this very good value. Our total bill came to £127 - that was for two nights stay in a double room; a four course meal for two on one night; two bottles of wine and additional drinks. The food in the restaurant was good and 20 Euros per head for 4 course dinner, local wine 8 euros/bottle.
There is a simply amazing view from the hotel's balcony which looks out over the valley, the many villages perched on hills, vineyards etc.
This is a very picturesque part of the world - Piedmonte - full of interesting little villages, most with churches and towers, vintners and truffle shops (as this is a major truffle centre). We were also pleasantly surprised by the local town Alba which is full of old buildings, interesting squares, decent shops and free bicycle hire.
Guarene itself is a beautiful little hilltop village, with a lovely old church, interesting houses etc. The Miralanghe is right in the centre in the main square, opposite the town hall.
The hotel owners could not have been more helpful (a married couple, and the wife speaks English). We were offered drinks on arrival and a warm welcome. There was the village festival that weekend, which was noisy and went on quite late. This was not the hotel's fault, but they felt bad about it, so we were offered a discount and complimentary bottles of wine to take with us as compensation - even though we hadn't complained! Our car also got trapped by the barriers put up for the festival, so the hotel owner arranged to take and collect us from a local restuarant we had booked - free of charge. This was service beyond the normal you would expect, and it made our stay a special one. [the festival was interesting as well].
On our second night we went to another local restaurant, which we can also highly recommend - 'Osteria La Madernassa, Localita Lora 2, Castelrotto, Guarene (0039 0173611716). This was really good food, great atmosphere (full and all Italian diners), and again a fantasitc view over the valley from their terrace. It was one of the best meals I've had (modern European)and the local wine was very quaffable - and again a very reasonable price for what we had.
The hosts are very nice, we were offered some white wine on arrival, the chef does not speak English (or he was too shy, or thought my Italian was enough), but his wife Anna speaks English very well and made our stay as comfortable as possible.
We had arrived 2 hours before dinner, and the chef showed us the nearby church (which is closed due to construction, but he has the key), after that we lounged on the communal balcony with a great view of the rolling hills and I asked for the leftover wine and some nibblies, which we promptly received.
Dinner was great, very much what you find in this area, a 25€ per adult tour de force through the 'what is in season' typical food of the region. The dining area boasts this great panoramic view and all was very tasty.
An added bonus was the daughter of the house, who is the same age as our son, so, next day we did not even see him at breakfast, he was having breakfast with his new girlfriend.
What was also amazing, one of the friends who travelled with us cannot eat gluten. And they had no problem adjusting their food to accommodate him.
The food is authentic based on local, fresh produce. And the wines!!
We Can only recommend a visit if you are in the vicinity of Alba👍
Rooms, very of the property type, charming and comfortable. The hosts, very welcoming. The restaurant, my oh my, well, just fantastic local seasonal produce prepared sympathetically to bring a true taste of the region.
Don't tell another soul though because I want to keep this for myself!
