We had been travelling around New Zealand for a while and were keen to spend the last few days of our holiday relaxing on a beach somewhere. And so we were very pleased that we found this beautiful place to do just that.

From the moment we arrived till the moment we left, everything was just perfect.

We chose the Vivian Bay Suite which was very spacious, spotlessly clean and comfortable with amazing views out to the bay and a nice little outdoor patio where we could step straight down onto the sand to enjoy walks on the beach or a dip in the calm waters.

Meals at the Beach House from breakfast through to lunch and dinner were just amazing, beautifully prepared and presented. And we were very well looked after with special cocktail requests.

As there are no roads, shops and the only way to the island is by boat, it really is the perfect place to just relax and unwind. But if you wish, you can book a short boat hop over to Mansion House on the island, which is well worth a visit - it was once the home of a former NZ governor who in his day had brought over some exotic animals like zebras, monkeys and peacocks - the zebras and monkeys are long gone, but there are peacocks roaming around and various other birds.

Back at Beach House you can also spot weka , wood pigeons and dotterels and, if you are lucky, we are told some dolphins in the bay.

We loved our stay and are very grateful to managers Chris and his wife Camila (who was also the fabulous chef) and all the little team for their amazing hospitality throughout our stay. We were surprised to learn that the team had only been operating there since just a few weeks before we arrived - but in that short space of time they have done a really great job to be running everything so smoothly on this beautiful remote little island.

Definitely one of the highlights of our travels.

We thoroughly enjoyed our 2 nights at the Beach House on beautiful Kawau Island. The vibe is relaxed and comfortable, with incredible gourmet food, drinks and cocktails. Chris, Camilla and the team looked after us so well and were the perfect hosts. There is plenty to do - kayaking, paddle boarding, walks to Rocky Bay through the bush, relaxing on a couch in the sun or sipping cocktails on the deck at sunset. We stayed in the Vivian Bay Beach Suite which was beautifully appointed and had the bonus of its own deck and direct access to the beach.

Spent 1 night here for my partners 30th birthday present, what a place! Chris, Camilla and the whole team are just fabulous, nothing is too much trouble, and everything is relaxed luxury, so no stress. We stayed in the Kereru (room 7) and being at the end of a row of rooms (walking past 5 and 6) meant it was exceptionally private. Added bonus of private beachfront access and glorious views from our private deck. The scenery is straight out of the Caribbean on a sunny day, with dolphins in the bay, we're told they are around pretty frequently and they're very social. Rooms very very well equipped, clean and so comfortable!

Then there is the food. Just luscious! So much flavour in every item on the plate, wine matching on point, and desserts (which I normally find let the side down in most restaurants) had a complexity and such depth of flavour I was thrilled. Kawau island has "wau" right in the name, and wow was right. We'll be back for any future special occasions for sure!

We had a wonderful dinner at the Beach House last night with beautiful food and great hosts. Christian and Camilla from Argentina took over management just before Christmas and have really got the place sorted. Being a small remote location it is naturally a small menu but there is something for everyone and Camilla cooks beautifully.
These guys have travelled NZ cooking in restaurants, NZ ski fields and Fiordland Lodges. What a bonus for Kawau Island so get in and support them. But best to book ahead as very hard to cater for walk-ins in a remote location

Fantastic drinks and food, Incredible staff! I have come to this place now several times. Book in advance and try to get a spot in this magnificent bay. The treats that the chef gives with such a friendly atmosphere makes you just want to come back. Congratulations to the small team that runs this business with such love and care for guests and visitors.

Wow, what a fabulously wonderful experience! What made it even more special were the staff!Cris, Camilla, Ornella, Fabio & Nikki were just delightful, helpful, friendly, courteous and kind. Absolutely nothing was too much trouble for them.

We stayed in the beach front Pohutukawa Suite with a private deck and beach access. The menus for breakfast, lunch and dinner are short but the skills of Camilla in the kitchen translate to fabulous flavours on the plate.

I cannot recommend The Beach House highly enough! All our expectations were exceeded!!

My husband surprised me with a trip to The Beach House for a weekend. What a wonderful surprise - this must be one of Auckland's best kept secrets!
The setting is absolutely beautiful and the rooms are clean, elegant and comfortable.
We had a small room which opened on to the paved area in front of the beach and it was lovely. There are some great activities to do: swimming, SUPing, kayaking, and walking through the wonderfully scented manuka forest, lively with insects and native birds.
But we found that it was the people who made it so special: Chris and his small team are so personable and welcoming, and the food - amazing! Wonderful menus and flavours, and perfect quantities. I also really appreciated that the team do their best to walk lightly on this special land.
Thank you guys for making our anniversary weekend so memorable and special - highly recommended. We will definitely be back!

The Beach House sits in a fabulous location right on a beautifully private cove beach. The hosts (Chris and Camilla) are warm and welcoming. The food is outstanding. If you are looking for a quiet escape from the crowds (and communications...more on that), this is the place! A couple of caveats - pick your room carefully; some are quite small and open onto the patio so not that much privacy. Others, however, are fantastic with both privacy and sea views. And don't expect to be doing zoom calls - the internet is slow and only available in the public areas. But you don't come here to do zoom calls!

And I have to make a comment on a recent 2 star review I've seen here. We were at the hotel when this group of people (not hotel guests) were there. They were loud and intrusive and based on my experience, I find their comments unreliable. I hope for the hotel's sake that they keep their promise never to return - they won't be missed.

One of the best meals we ever had. The service was incredibly friendly. The place awesome in all sense. We will come back with friends soon! Strongly recommended!
We went with our boat and were surprised that in this remote place we could have a 5stars hotel meal. The matching wines were perfect too. Great place to just stop for a drink, lunch or a romantic dinner. Well done! New Zealand needs more places like this.

Our family has just enjoyed 2 nights at the Beach House and it exceeded our expectations. We are a pretty fussy bunch but we couldn’t fault the location or service. Chris & Camilla and the team provide a personalised experience and cater for your every need. They are there when you need them but also allow you space to have a peaceful break. Camilla is a fabulous chef, the meals were excellent - the homemade breads were a real treat and we loved the fact that they are using their own grown vegetables and herbs. The garden is full of birds and we wish we had a longer stay to explore more. If you are looking for a compete get away from it all where all you need to do is sleep, swim, read, and enjoy gastronomic delights then this is the place for you.
