Where to begin: This was stay two for me. Staff - friendly, think 1980 old school. Rooms - getting tired but warm Beds - comfy, but pillows are weirdly uncomfortable in both rooms I’ve had. Amenities - thin would be the term I use. The bare minimum is supplied which is fine if your setting up camp and going to the supermarket, but would be annoying if your there for say 2-3 nights for work. What I should mention is that they position themselves as just that, serviced apartments, not a hotel. Location - central, and the Mount is a $15 Uber from Tauranga central. Is it bad, not at all, is it getting on in years - yes.
I’d written a long review but it was over the character count. Basically, there’s 2 good things to say about the Anchorage Apartments. The location is good and the apartment was warm. Amongst the negatives were very tired cheap decor, a really small uncomfortable bed, tiny towels, no amenities like sachets of washing powder or dishwash liquid, and no wifi for 3 nights of our 7 night stay. The manager and receptionist are straight out of the Fawlty Towers Management School. We’ve stayed in lots of accommodation places at the Mount and in Tauranga over the last 30 years. This is the worst. We won’t be back and I recommend you avoid it too.
Decided to spend 4 nights at The Anchorage with the view in mind of booking for a family function in August. The only positive thing I could say is the location was great, walking distance to everything BUT we paid for a 5 star room but got a -2 room. The first night one of the drapes came off the runners and remained just hanging in the corner for the entire time. The aircon didn't work, the soap dispenser, in the bathroom wouldn't work, the bathroom also had a disgusting musty smell. The worse of all were the beds, they were absolutely horrible, so uncomfortable, after 3 nights of no sleep we checked out a night early. Greg the property manager was not available until the Monday. I explained the situation to his mother who in turn assured me Greg would contact me the next day, seven days later I am still waiting. The whole experience is totally unacceptable and I would never step foot in those apartments ever again. All these apartments are suppose to be renovated well they certainly missed this one but we paid the price.…
We have stayed previously but this time our room was overlooking the pool, but without aircon and the room was tidy/ clean but looking worn . Once again handy but disappointed in room quality and layout. Not sure I’d come again
Our room was perfect, our door opened up onto the deck with the swimming pool and spa right outside. The pool was lovely. The spa was fantastic. The room was very comfortable and was well appointed, even had a washing machine and dryer.
We have stayed at the Anchorage many times over the years as it's fantastic. The location is the best, the rooms spacious and comfortable. This last stay was the absolute best with a 2 bedroom apartment on the 4th floor. It was big, extremely clean with very nice furniture. The location couldn't be better, one small block away from all the restaurants, beach and amenities. Off street parking, washing machine and dryer etc etc etc.
Located just a few minutes walk from the port, Pilot Bay board walk, the Mount walking track, the main shopping centre with its great restaurants and bars etc, as well as those magnificent beach's. Our apartment was on the third floor overlooking the swimming pool. We had a very slight view out to pilot bay. The apartment was very spacious and had 2 bedrooms, which accomodated two adults and two teenagers no problem at all. Presented in a very clean and tidy state we were very comfortable. The only issue I had was that the supplies of rubbish bags and toilet paper etc were adequate for only about 2 or three days.. our stay was for 7 days so we had to fend for ourselves in that department, but on the upside we were never disrupted by other occupants so were able to freely relax. Id stay there again no problem at all. Maybe a little pricey, but still worth it.…
It was a pleasure to stay at Anchorage. Tina was prompt in answering my emails, and very welcoming upon my arrival. The one bedroom I had was set up well, and to a very clean standard. The location is good, as easy enough to walk to shops etc. You can have a choice of apartments and some have water views. There is also a pool and hot tub on 2nd floor outside. I would certainly re book at The Anchorage on my return to Mt Maunganui.
Graham McGowan Stayed at the Anchorage 2 days ago… What a great place to stay, spotless throughout. Very, Very, Very friendly on arrival, ( stopped here about three years back, only just managed to get back here, still so friendly )Fantastic room…………. Greg is such a positive man when you chat to him, whistling and joking… Great……will be stopping again soon
Arrived a couple of hours early and not only let in but upgraded too. Great start to our two night stay. These are very nice apartments and would be perfect for an extended stay. Close to the beach, shopping precinct and restaurants. Very secure with underground parking for your car. Mt Maunganui is a very nice place.
