Detailed Reviews
Located just a few minutes walk from the port, Pilot Bay board walk, the Mount walking track, the main shopping centre with its great restaurants and bars etc, as well as those magnificent beach's. Our apartment was on the third floor overlooking the swimming pool. We had a very slight view out to pilot bay. The apartment was very spacious and had 2 bedrooms, which accomodated two adults and two teenagers no problem at all. Presented in a very clean and tidy state we were very comfortable. The only issue I had was that the supplies of rubbish bags and toilet paper etc were adequate for only about 2 or three days.. our stay was for 7 days so we had to fend for ourselves in that department, but on the upside we were never disrupted by other occupants so were able to freely relax.
Id stay there again no problem at all. Maybe a little pricey, but still worth it.

We have stayed at the Anchorage many times over the years as it's fantastic. The location is the best, the rooms spacious and comfortable. This last stay was the absolute best with a 2 bedroom apartment on the 4th floor. It was big, extremely clean with very nice furniture. The location couldn't be better, one small block away from all the restaurants, beach and amenities. Off street parking, washing machine and dryer etc etc etc.

Our room was perfect, our door opened up onto the deck with the swimming pool and spa right outside. The pool was lovely. The spa was fantastic.
The room was very comfortable and was well appointed, even had a washing machine and dryer.

I’d written a long review but it was over the character count. Basically, there’s 2 good things to say about the Anchorage Apartments. The location is good and the apartment was warm. Amongst the negatives were very tired cheap decor, a really small uncomfortable bed, tiny towels, no amenities like sachets of washing powder or dishwash liquid, and no wifi for 3 nights of our 7 night stay. The manager and receptionist are straight out of the Fawlty Towers Management School. We’ve stayed in lots of accommodation places at the Mount and in Tauranga over the last 30 years. This is the worst. We won’t be back and I recommend you avoid it too.

Decided to spend 4 nights at The Anchorage with the view in mind of booking for a family function in August. The only positive thing I could say is the location was great, walking distance to everything BUT we paid for a 5 star room but got a -2 room. The first night one of the drapes came off the runners and remained just hanging in the corner for the entire time. The aircon didn't work, the soap dispenser, in the bathroom wouldn't work, the bathroom also had a disgusting musty smell. The worse of all were the beds, they were absolutely horrible, so uncomfortable, after 3 nights of no sleep we checked out a night early. Greg the property manager was not available until the Monday. I explained the situation to his mother who in turn assured me Greg would contact me the next day, seven days later I am still waiting. The whole experience is totally unacceptable and I would never step foot in those apartments ever again. All these apartments are suppose to be renovated well they certainly missed this one but we paid the price.

Truly terrible - truly terrible. Hit out in an appartement where to pool noise was so loud it was horrendous and everyone in the pool and spa looking in on us. Staff unhelpful. Would absolutely not recommend anyone come and stay here. Zero stars.

I was very impressed. The location is amazing - so close to everything including an awesome four square and some amazing eateries. My room was lovely, bed was comfy and the rooms have everything you would expect and more. The underground parking and lift system works well. I gave 4 stars instead of 5 because of the noise from the other rooms around me. I could hear dryers going at 5.30am and doors slamming which is probably the norm at a place like this but still annoying. But overall I loved my stay and would definitely choose to stay here again.

Our 10 day stay over the Christmas/New Year was extremely frustrating and disappointing. We will not be staying here again. Over the years we have stayed at the Anchorage Apartments many times and have come away with fond memories. Unfortunately this time we did not have the same experience and our stay was less than ideal for paying top dollar. I had booked the Anchorage in August and specifically asked if all construction would be completed by December. On August 8 I was told that construction would be completed. On December 15 I was told the pool was under construction and the bbq area and hot tub closed, that I was welcome to cancel and no offer of a discount was given. Everyone knows Mt Maunganui at Christmas time is booked out months in advance so it is impossible to find 10 days accommodation a few days before my arrival. The day I arrived I was told the pool may be open Boxing Day, and as the days progressed the date kept getting further and further out. The pool area was not opened when I checked out on January 2nd. Because the pool area and facilities were closed I had to rearrange BBQ and pool plans at the last minute. The amenities at the Anchorage are key to your stay here and without them it is not worth the top dollar you pay. I requested a discount and although I did get a very small refund it was not even one free nights stay! The room was certainly not worth $NZ388 per night. When we arrived construction was going on and notices in the apartment to say keep your windows and doors closed to prevent dust and crud coming into the apartment. It is SUMMER! The intercom did not work so my guests had to call on the house phone and being international travelers we did not have local cell phones. The internet did not work most times and when it did it was really slow so nearly impossible to search the internet. Anchorage Management/Body Corp really need to up their game and be more service orientated since they are in the hospitality business. Where I live in the US you would not get away with less than top notch service for paying top dollar. I do hope the Management/Body Corp take these reviews seriously and make the necessary changes as the Anchorage is in an ideal location.

We booked a pool access room on the pool deck from 4-9 January , 4 months in advance direct with Anchorage and made it specifically clear that we were booking Anchorage as we wanted to stay in accomodation with pool facilities. I am unable to swim in the sea, so pool facilities are very important to me in hot weather ! We had several other options at the time that all had pool facilities but chose this apartment as it had the nicest pool and the room opened out to the pool deck, which we were looking forward to using. On Boxing Day we were advised that the pool and pool deck area would be closed for refurbishment during our stay and although given the option to cancel our booking at no charge no offer of a discount was even made. This should have been offered as Anchorage were now offering diminished facilities and no doubt we would have to put up with nowhere to sit outside, noise and no views except for those of workers working in and around the pool area etc. When we asked when the pool would re open ( thinking we could come at another time) , we were advised "perhaps end of January but not sure as the Body Corp were vague on this". All blame was put at the foot of the Body Corp but I find it hard to believed that a Body Corp would advise of closure for a major summer specific facility to the managers of the complex on Christmas or Boxing Day! They would have known and booked this work in awhile ago- a foolish business decision! Leaving this notification to just before we were due to stay meant, as the managers must have full well known that it would be impossible for us to book elsewhere. Alternative accomodation could not be had and so we cancelled our booking, not wishing to spend our holiday watching refurbishments from our room . We will also end up loosing our deposit to the cattery for our two cats!
Anyway, please be aware that you can not trust that the advertised facilities will be available when you visit and that management do not communicate any such changes in a timely manner. I suggest you also read the review from the guy who paid extra money to get a room with a good view and ended up looking at the police station! Pity as we were really looking forward to our holiday😪😔😡

I cannot comment about the room. It was busy as it is peak season in this area. There was a sign outside stating "overnight stays and weekly accommodation. .." To me this stated that accommodation was available, why else would you have a sign outside in clear view?
The foyer was dark, with a low ceiling but adequate to sit in. We approached the counter where the female host was talking with another person behind the counter and we were ignored. We were right in front of her for a sufficient amount of time while this woman then took a call. The other person behind the counter wasn't asked to help with our inquiry. Eventually she asked if we had a booking, We said no, just inquiring and was told there was nothing and walked away. So I asked her why the sign was outside? If you don't want to be hospitable, why do it!? Sigh!!

Response from Bustercrab1890, Manager at The Anchorage
Responded 17 Jan 2015
We apologise to the potential guest,as no matter how busy we are there is no excuse for this type of attitude towards anyone who is visiting our complex. The action was witnessed by management and following the persons departure we had discussions with the staff member and have since instigated further staff training. At the time we had just,at that minute, booked our last apartment for that evening and had not had time to change our signage. We also apologise for this.
