Avoid this place! The manager is very unfriendly right from the time you call to book in. She tried to overcharge me on the phone as she stated "website prices were incorrect" which should have been the redflag for me not to book and when I asked her to honour the price she said "I have to call the owner" So I booked online instead and got the better rate. When we arrived I prepaid and went into the room which was a huge mistake! We then noticed all the cobwebs on the ceiling, fan and Aircon. We then we put our food on the bench and had a snooze and woke up to ants 😫😫 all over our food. We went to the manager and she came over with ant spray and didn't even apologize. I did ask for a discount as and then she treated us like we were a burden and she needed to "contact the owner" No response so I emailed the info line and this was the reply from the manager "I told you that I would contact you if your bank account was needed for a refunded discount. I haven’t called you because it was not necessary as the business owner is not discounting your stay" Worst customer service ever..get a new job manager and make sure the rooms and pests are cleaned properly or do you need to contact the owner? Did the owner even get the call and email? What manager do you know can not make those types of decisions?…
The motel is a little island of calm in the midst of the dreadful industrial and commercial traffic of Tauranga/Mount. We had a studio for an overnight stay after an evening flight from Wellington before being collected by family the next day. It's very handy to the airport and the management had no problems with our late arrival. All amenities were a high standard except for the odd feature of no sink for washing up after our order-in meal. We had to use the hand-basin in the bathroom. The motel is right next to the Pacific Highway and the rail line with very noisy trucks and trains so we had to keep all the windows shut to keep the noise out and run the AC all night. We were unusual perhaps in arriving by cab and if you want to eat out or do something else in the Mount you would need a car.…
Warm welcome by the owners each time I have checked in here, was explained everything I needed to know, the rooms are comfy everything I need, the fans and heaters are there for use. Despite comments about trains and being on the main highway, the location is perfect Easily accessible to the CBD, Bayfair shopping a walking distance or the Mt the other direction. Thank you for your hospitality, keep up the good work, very appreciative of your service. Mahalo
We had a good stay at Gateway Motel. The hosts emailed us with useful details about how to get to their place and welcomed as at every step of the process. Good facilities. Nice room. Close to Bayfair for shopping.
Lent us camp chairs to take to the cricket, dried our washing for us while we were out, got us a discount at a local attraction etc. By and large we found people in New Zealand pretty friendly, but the folks at Gateway were way, way above and beyond. Room etc all fine but we will remember Gateway a long time for the kindness with which we were treated.
This is an awfully noisy Accommodation Unit. It is situated next to a main railway line with a motorway in between the railway and the property. We were awake half the night listening to trains (at 1.30am & 3.30am) and Traffic noise. There was a grumpy old man on reception. The rooms are getting a little bit tired and the bathrooms need a total makeover, not to mention the badly stained shower glass from body and soap scum. Better places around for the same amount. Disappointing.
Have stayed at the Gateway before, the rooms are well set out for a family of four. Lots of space and a large corner spa. Sadly this will most probably be the last time we stay as we have encountered midnight frights two times in a row. Smoke alarms going off in the middle of the night waking the whole motel and requiring you to get up and out! This happened to us both times we stayed at the motel two years in a row. Very scary to be woken by a loud siren for the kids and to have to get out in the cold to find out it just a malfunction. We decided to stay again as we like the rooms and area, but after having the alarms go off again we will not be returning. Nothing was said to guest the next morning, no apologies, or explanation. All the fire alarms are linked so the whole motel goes off if someone overcooked something, however we are not sure why the alarms went off both times as the owners dont say anything. My husband got up and went outside to find everyone had gone back to be and ignored the alarms. Not good if it ends up being a real fire as we would just think it was another malfunction. We dont want to stay again as we don't like being woken with such a fright on a Lovely week away, so will be staying elsewhere, we can't risk it happening for a third time.…
Nice motel, clean, owners and staff very helpful, yes its off a highway there is some noise but at night ok. The rooms and bathrooms are large and free facilities. Great stop over motel, l stayed 7 days and was able to cover large area. Airport nearby and recommend joy flights
This motel is located by a very busy road and a railway line so my bed shook when the train went by. The owners seem very nice but there is more they could do. The decor is very tired. My heater burst in to flames when I turned it on ... butthe motelier did come running with an extinguisher. My TV would only get one channel and was stuck on Prime. The shower was good though!
I would unfortunately rate this Inn as not comfortable for the sober souls. It is on the roadside where the speed limit increases hence lots of vehicles grunting all the time. Noise and vibrations kept me up almost all night. Beds were not comfortable enough for a peaceful sleep. Squeaky fans made the hot nights even worse. Was down for 2 nights and could not get the much needed sleep for my work commitments on the following days. Sorry, but a BIG NO from me!
