I was traveling around the area mostly camping. I booked this hostel for a night as it was the cheapest accommodation I could find in the area.I found the hostel to be fantastic however. Everywhere very clean, large rooms with good security and storage. Kitchen is well stocked

The YHA has changed greatly in recent years, so that there is a uniformity in the service provided, which doesn't appeal to everyone. But this doesn't detract from the friendly and helpful atmosphere at hostels like Penzance. The staff are local, knowledgeable, calm, cheerful and

Hello Karen, thank you for your great comments. It is great to know that my team behaved themselves when I was away! Although we try to provide a uniformity in the product we provide each hostel is unique and does have its own character. There are some great bargains available to Easter when you book direct. I hope to see you again soon. Paul

Fulfilling a dream to explore West Cornwall out of season I stayed here for the first 3 days of January. It certainly is a beautiful building in a lovely peaceful location inshore halfway between Penzance and Newlyn. I started in a twin bunked room which was fine for one, with a

Thank you David for your great comments. Some people like to be in the middle of the town but most prefer the peace and quiet of the area and the bus from the bottom of the lane. I hope you took the bus to Mousehole to see the Christmas Lights. The breakfast is always good value for money but for those just needing a bowl of muesli we do have a great kitchen. Great comments about the staff but sometimes they pretend they are not trained!

Ok, it's a hostel not the Hilton so my comments have to be taken in context. The Penzance YHA is the best one I have stayed in after a lifetime of travelling and hostelling. It's not perfect, for example the WiFi was irritatingly inconstant and the waste bins in the bathrooms

Hello Robert, thank you for your great comments and a few concerns too. The wifi is indeed a nuisance but there is very little we can do to make it perfect. The same system is in operation throughout the YHA and gets good reviews. Unfortunately we live at the end of the line and up a lane! There is an out of hours support phone by the front door that is connected to the overnight staff. We upgraded the door closures a few months ago and have a lock up procedure each evening. The front door is locked every night. Sometimes people go out early and leave the door on the latch. We will be looking into further security systems. All bedrooms are locked and all beds have lockable boxes for valuables. The snorer, I can do nothing about but we managed to move the person so everyone got a good night sleep! Thanks again for your comments.
