Detailed Reviews
Purchased a value package that included two nights, two breakfasts and one dinner with use of pool and spa included. Firstly the not so good; the room was seriously dated and needs a full remodel. The good - It was huge, warm with a good wall heater, and opened on to a small garden area (we didn't pay extra for river view). The bathroom was just okay, toilet was old and half flush; shower was okay. The expected bottles of toiletries were not provided, just a tiny soap bar and wall mounted wash gel (saving the environment but not the quality expected for this type of establishment).
The Good - Amazing Staff, so friendly and helpful; the best! The Kanuka restaurant and bar; wow, such amazing food. It's simple and healthy and perfectly presented. Choices for vegetarian and gluten free too. Large servings over three courses. Big thanks to the chef/s. Breakfast also was great. The second morning we went for breakfast at 9am but were not served our hot food until almost 10am (due to a function). This is not good as we almost had to cancel due to time. The views from the restaurant are amazing, both morning and night. The bar has TV with full service unlike the bedrooms which are very limited. We walked around the outside of the hotel to see the river view from outdoors. There might have been a walk path long ago to the river but there's nothing now which is sad. Parking is provided. About 8km from town but there's a bus stop outside or taxi. We didn't use the pool/spa area.
The old hotel is beautiful, the doors and fireplaces and the skylight. Also the history panels in the foyer are interesting. Note; there is almost no phone reception but the hotel provides wifi. We will definitely stay again but might choose Park apartment next door rather than the older hotel rooms.

Stayed here on a $1 a night deal (where you spend $250 on spa treatments and get your stay for only $1)
Great deal as my boyfriend and I wanted to enjoy massages and facials for my birthday while still on a budget!
The hotel itself is about an 8 minute drive from town so if you want to go out for dinner and drinks alot than it may be a little far as the drive is quite windy getting too and from the town.
Check-in was easy, lots of parking and it was free which was a bonus. Rooms are dated but we knew we weren't staying at a 5 star hotel so we were fine with it. The rooms were large and we had a stove top, microwave, kettle etc...in our room which was separate to the bedroom. (Would be good if you were staying for a long time and wanted to cook your own food)
Bathrooms were good and the showers had good pressure. Not much room to put your toiletries though and they have the soap that's 'all in one' for hair & body which I always dislike. Ecspecially for a hotel that has a spa you'd think they would have some toiletries from the spa to use. Only issues with the room was there were no coathangers and the door wouldnt lock from the inside which may be a safety concern for some however I never felt unsafe staying there.
I was a little disappointed in the spa. The hot tub was too hot that I couldn't get in and the pool was personally too cold for me however I saw a few others swimming in it so it may have just been me.
The massages were okay. The therapists were nice and welcoming but it definitely was more of a relaxing massage than anything very firm. My facial was okay too. The facial massage could have been firmer and it would have been nice to discuss skin types and what she was going to use on my skin etc... beforehand to make it more tailored to me but maybe all the facials are the same. Nice view though.
Overall you get what you pay for. I would stay again if I was looking for somewhere cheap & cheerful to stay when I was in Queenstown.

Let’s start with the positives, rooms were a good size, clean and tidy with a decent view over looking the Shotover River. All the staff were very friendly and excellent service on reception. We had a couples spa treatment that overlooked the Shotover River and this was an amazing experience by professional staff.
The bed(s) was just two beds pushed together and one was higher than the other so this made for some uncomfortable nights sleep as we rolled to the centre.
We booked a room with a view as it included breakfast which is quite expensive to order on its own. Although the breakfasts were good, it was disappointing however, that every day the staff got our order incorrect. We took certain things off the menu so as not to have wastage but they still came out. Simple things were also missed like a teaspoon with tea and butter with toast. The staff were friendly but could do with some more training to ensure attention to detail.
Although the spa treatments were great the other facilities were not so good. We felt like the 3 bears as the pool was exceptionally cold, spa pool was extremely hot but the steam room was just right! We weren’t the only ones who noticed the pool and spa pool temperatures as there were lots of comments as guests entered them both. This is quite a big feature of the hotel and also a reason why we booked this hotel as it is further out of Queenstown, so it was disappointing we only used these facilities once as didn’t want to return.

Very poor service for a $400 per night hotel. Guy upon check in lacked even the most basic skills. Did not indicate where any facilities were or details on dining. Room serviced only once in a three night stay. Toilet paper not replenish and room only came with one and a half rolls to start with. Dishes not done and no products in room to clean them ourselves, had to ask for clean mug or cleaning items on day 3 but that never happened. Waited almost an hour for breakfast to be brought out from time of order, was under cooked and clearly done in one hell of a hurry once I complained. Pool was freezing so don’t get excited by the images, spa pool water is murky and smells, steam room not working. Reception is only manned after 10am so if your wanting something important like say toilet paper you need to go use the ones at the pool area.

We booked a weekend getaway in the hopes of relaxing and winding down. Overall our stay at Nugget Point was a let down. For the amount of money they charge we were expecting somewhat more, the view from the room was nice and the room was warm. However the stains on the couch and the overall look of the room weren’t quite what we were expecting everything was falling apart starting from the carpet as you walked in the room. We dined on Saturday morning in the restaurant at Nugget Point, the service was flat, so to speak, we waited long enough to be seated to have to go to the bar and the waitress to tell us to find a table. Neither waitress looked like they even wanted to be there, the coffees we got were definitely not what we ordered, breakfast took a slow 40 mins and the eggs were cold. My fiancé asked for a side of tomato sauce with his full cooked breakfast which never arrived. Overall disappointing is how I would describe Nugget Point. I don’t think we would book again.

I have stayed in the hotels in town and found that staying a little further out added another dimension to our stay in Queenstown.
Service here was excellent right from check in delivering ice buckets and cutlery and charger. The kitchen sent up our breakfast to take away on our full day tour starting at 6am that was AWESOME!
Big rooms comfy super large beds with balcony's and our own spa bath along with spectacular views over shadowed the dated furnishings.
The restaurant catered beautifully for our plant based diet
Would we go back....Definitely Thank you TNP Happy travellers

I stayed here and at first was amused by the idiosyncrasies and wowed by the views which are superbly spectacular. You will see this in the photos (NB. Food and wine was supplied by me and obtained outside the ‘hotel’)
However, the ongoing ‘due to staff shortages’ excuses started to add up. The room wasn’t cleaned, the restaurant was unexpectedly closed (for months/years it would appear - but you are only told on arrival!) I was assured that coffee was available in the mornings from the ‘gleaming’ machine I could spy. Alas, it was unexpectedly broken the following morning and the next and nothing close by was open (yes I like my morning coffee) The ‘ensuite’ had public toilet feel with dispensers for soap and shampoo. The fridge had no milk because ‘due to milk shortages’ (you get the picture) The spa water was grey and I was relieved I didn’t have kids with me because the ‘modern Roman bath’ pool, spa area was dangerous (however we did manage to sneak two clean towels to take to our room and found a chilled water dispenser which reception had told us didn’t exist.)
Speaking of reception - there is 1 person on staff at a time. That’s it. Finished. The response to our room not being clean was the provision of a sponge (cut with scissors into 1/3 of its original size)
All in all - this is a backpackers.
It is not for discerning clients as it’s website/trip advisor advert states.
It is no longer luxury.
It is in a poor and sorry state.
Each room is individually owned (condo) and the upkeep is fractured to say the least.
I’d be embarrassed to see International travellers stay here and assume this is a NZ standard.
We do so much better than this.

This hotel would have been 'the place' to stay back in the 80's and 90's and that's a big part of the charm of staying there today.
That said, the rooms are a little bit tired and the shower over a high bathtub isn't the best.
However, the rooms are large and the views over the Shotover River are stunning.
Check-in was very welcoming and help with our luggage up the stairs was greatly appreciated.

Wonderful setting and beautiful accommodation. The room was huge, clean and comfortable. Lovely dining room with amazing views and fantastic food - we enjoyed the platter for lunch which was great value with a huge variety of foods. I had a relaxing massage and facial and the staff were friendly and helpful. I highly recommend Nuggent Point.

Check in was easy. Beds are very comfortable. Rooms are large and our one had a spa bath plus shower. The heating was a panel type heater which was very good - just took a little effort to get it working.
The quality of the dinner and breakfast was very good given that it done with Level 2 covit and prices were excellent value. There is also a laundry for guest use.

Kia Ora Ella,
All you need to do is let me know the date and time you would like to book for and I will take care of it for you.
Kind regards,
Bella
the ground floor rpom we stayed in had a door to a path to the carpark a wonderful place to stay.
No it wasn't a sofa bed. There is a double bed and a single and lots of floor space
Not sure what you mean by construction but the pool is very much operational. Unfortunately the steam room was out of order when I visited back in September.
I just got taxis. They weren't too expensive and they were pretty easy. Worth it for the views in the hotel!
