Reefton has been transformed into a beautiful old historic little town, still with a mining heritage, and that hospitable West Coast atmosphere. Our tour guide had booked us into the Lantern Court Motel. My husband was indulging in eating a fresh hot buttered scone and spilt melted butter down his shirt and trousers. Proprietor kindly offered to launder my husband's clothes, clothes returned clean and dried and folded, wouldn't take payment.

We stayed here for two nights recently and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We had a ground floor corner room which was spacious , clean and well equipped. The spa bath was a great addition especially after a long walk! There is also a small patio at the front which gets the afternoon/evening sun - a great place for sipping a glass of wine! The motel has done a great job of retaining it's character whilst providing up to date facilities.

Booked in as part of our trip through the Lewis Pass from Blenheim. Character building and what I expect at the front may have been an old 'hotel' back in the day. Nobody was at reception when we arrived (mid afternoon on a Wednesday), but the phone at reception was quickly answered and a couple of minutes later we were greeted and checked in to our room out the back on the gound level.
Could not fault anything here really (although a wall/bedside light in the master bedroom for readers would have been welcomed). The unit itself was a good size, had a carpark outside, double glazing (warm and reduced any road noise I expect), a confortable bed and a couple of radiator heaters which were quick to warm the unit up on a cooler and rainy night. The place was tidy and everything form milk in the fridge to salt and pepper made for a pleasant stay.

Had a great welcome by the ‘local yokel’ owner.
Room very average however spacious and clean.
Little soundproofing.
People in the room next door partied all night. I went out at 1 and asked them to ease off. They did, but only briefly.
Polycotton sheets made me feel like I was sleeping in a plastic bag so I had little sleep overall.
Would we stay here again? No. But that’s not because the service wasn’t good....it’s just not a place that suits our needs.

We booked an overnight stop in Reefton by looking on a map so we were very pleasantly surprised to find how interesting it proved to be! Lantern Court Motel was the ideal place to stay and we were given a really warm welcome by Kerry. It’s simple charm provided everything we needed for a comfortable stay. She gave us local information and we had a lovely walk along the river to the old Power House ( Reefton was the first town in the Southern Hemisphere to get electricity) and across the old suspension bridge. There are also many old buildings and quirky shops in this little town.

Stayed one night. Had a standard 3 bedroom unit, bonus was the wrap around balcony , really big. In hindsight should have chosen the superior room for the two of us with the period furniture but apart from being a basic apartment it had everything we needed. It was very comfortable, excellent location, lovely welcome.

We are treated very well here. We don't bother looking elsewhere. It's an old building but the hospitality is top rate. Great value for money. Comfortable, clean and roomy. More than you need. Kitchen has everything you need to cook a meal or breakfast. Comfy lounge. We stayed in one of their apartments.

Very comfortable units. Nothing missing right down to the fresh milk in the fridge and the pepper and salt shakers. Spacious. Large bathroom. We were upstairs on the first floor with pleasant outlook over the road to the park. On the Main Street and so handy to all amenities. Pleasant receptionist. Bike storage. Excellent value. There were no vacancies on the night we stayed.

Great place, right in the center of town. Historic building (although we were in the building behind, so not sure whether it was an original or not). We had the corner room on the ground floor - an extremely spacious room, with a small dining table, kitchenette and a triple aspect sitting area. The kitchen was well equipped, even with a coffee plunger. Nice bath as well. Decor is somewhat dated but the space more than made up for it. We'd stay there again.

Convenient and comfortable place to stay in this small town of many pubs. While the room was not large, it was well designed and had everything we liked including a king sized bed and nice balcony.
Very easy walk to nice cafes and pubs (we spent time at Dawson’s for a nice meal and cosy fire).
Motel owners were exceptionally helpful and friendly.
