Having just arrived back home after 3 weeks in Chateau de Gurat, we’re reflecting on what was truly a very special time for our little family (ages 4 and 1.5 yrs). Such a beautiful setting and everything is set up perfectly for small families.

We drove from Dublin, landing into Cherbourg and whilst a long drive, it was hugely worth the visit to a region we hadn’t been to before. Days were spent exploring villages, chateau’s, river & lake beaches and after nap-times spending our afternoon in the pool as it was hot!

All the bits for smallies were catered for from bathroom steps, stair gates, changing mats etc so we traveled “light”! Our gite was so comfortable and practical and we cooked and bbq’d most evenings. Special touches like almost daily boulangerie orders, pizza & champagne evenings, wine tasting, babysitters (English speaking), massages etc were all availed of and enjoyed!

We had a 3-bed gite and the extra space was great. A super experience and I know as the girls grow older this holiday would grow with you. Thank you to our incredible hosts Edward and Swantje, your discreet but always attentive style was most appreciated. So many memories made xx

I stayed at Chateau de Gurat in La Forge with my husband, 3 month old baby and 2 year old, along with my sister, BIL and nephew (3). My parents stayed in Le Was Provencal at the same time.

The whole Chateau is perfectly set up with young children in mind and we hardly needed to worry about brining any any/toddler equipment as this was all provided (steriliser/cot/bed guards/baby bath/toys/pushchair/booster seats and more).

The Chateau itself is beautiful and well-kept, with each property having their own outside area surrounded by plants for privacy. La Forge was big enough for our whole group to eat at (6 adults, 2 kids and a baby).

The kids loved the sand pit, play barn, playground and animals as well as the stunning pool. We did the pizza night which was really lovely as it gave a chance to meet the few other families staying and the strong wifi meant baby monitors stretched from our gite!

Edward and Swantje were great hosts and nothing asked was too much trouble.

Overall it was a perfect stay which made holidaying with a young family incredibly easy!

Chateaux Gurat was everything we’d hoped for - we have an almost 3yr old, a 1.5yr old and I was 27wks pregnant for our 2weeks in Gurat. Edward and Swantje have thought through everything that makes holidaying with kids easier, great fun for the kids and more restful for the adults.

We flew, and so were able to travel light without any of the baby gear, knowing that everything we needed we’d requested and would be waiting for us there.

The joys of having freshly delivered, local bread and pastries in a morning didn’t grow old for us, and the morning trip to collect them and get a play on the ride on tractors in the barn / sandpit didn’t grow old for our boys.

There was a lovely balance of being around other families and socialising, and having your own family space and room on site to do your own thing too.
Our family is at small morning trips out then back for naps phase, so we spent a lot of time on site too, enjoying the pool most afternoons and the boys charging round the field with swings and trampoline and exploring down the hill to the animals too. It was wonderful. (Though advisable to take midge spray if you’re likely to be spending lots of time supervising trampolines / swinging swings!)

We enjoyed a wonderful pizza night, which is a really nice opportunity to properly chat to the other parents, which makes time in the pool & communal bits even nicer.

Edward and Swantje were really helpful with any questions about trips out as well as generally present and very friendly whenever we saw them. Thank you so much - we’d absolutely love to come back.

We have recently returned from a wonderful and relaxing stay. Edward and Swantje have created the perfect family retreat if you have young children and they are perfect hosts. They really have thought of everything and we didn't have to bring all that extra luggage you usually need to lug around with young children like baby monitors, pushchairs and booster seats. The gites are so well equipped in every aspect, especially the children's equipment and kitchen. The Chateau itself is beautiful and the grounds perfect for the little ones and safely enclosed so you can actually relax - sandpit, trampoline, swimming pool, play equipment, animals, a tractor and an extremely well stocked and cool play barn. Highlights for us were the welcome hamper, daily morning boulangerie deliveries, the home cooked meals you can order directly ( delicious!), the children all playing together, the chance to have some adult conversation with the wood fired pizza, crepes and wine night, and the wine tasting evening with charcuterie and cheese! The location is beautiful and the hosts have an extensive list and knowledge of places to visit. We visited beautiful medieval french towns and castles and perfect river and lake beaches. There is a large supermarket within a 10 minute drive so you can stock up easily and the hosts can recommend many places to eat.

When you have young children, a holiday is just parenting away from home but the Chateau Gurat gives you the chance to actually truly relax a little, decamp with the kids and get a bit of time to yourselves!

We have just returned from a one week stay with our 2.5 year old and 11 month old. We stayed in Coin Fleuri (3 bed) which was perfect and spacious for us and really nicely decorated. It was like a home from home with all of the baby equipment waiting for us when we arrived. It made it so much easier having those things to hand with our two little ones. The property itself and the grounds are stunning. It felt very safe and the countryside setting makes it very relaxing and peaceful. We ordered some of the home cooked meals which were great to put in the oven whilst we carried on having quality family time and we also had bbqs in our garden area (even the charcoal is provided). Our two kids loved the pool, sandpit, play barn, park area and animals. So much so that it was hard to drag them away to go out and explore! Edward and Swantje really have thought of everything and were happy to help with restaurant bookings etc if needed. We enjoyed getting to know the other guests at the pizza evening and wine tastings and highly recommend both of these evenings. We explored many of the nearby towns and lakes and found it a great base to do these things. The weather could have been better for us to enable us to use the pool more but there is still so much to do in the area. We would definitely return again.

It’s always the biggest of pleasures being at Chateau de Gurat.

The gites are beautiful and the grounds even more so. But what makes Gurat truly special is the feeling of relaxation you get from the minute you arrive.

From our first day there we were able to enjoy the type of peace so rare for parents, knowing that the children were safely ensconced in the play barn, sand pit or play area, happily playing with new friends.

While the children are entertained parents can take time to lounge by the pool or read a book in the shade of the stunning gardens which are so well kept. And to top it off, the loveliest of hosts, Edward and Swantje, arrange weekly wine tastings and pizza nights to give adults a chance to get to know their fellow holidaymakers. We’ve made many friends at these evenings.

If you want to venture out of Gurat there’s much of interest in the surrounding area. We’ve done day trips to Brantôme, St Emillion and Angoulême which all have different things to offer and are beautiful.

Our family can’t rate Chateau de Gurat highly enough, we absolutely love it.

Book your visit to Gurat without delay, it will soon become a firm favourite.

Chateau de Gurat is perfect. The little complex is so well maintained and designed with children and parents in mind. Parents can relax knowing the children are safe to roam and children enjoy the freedom. The accommodation has everything you would need for your holiday and Edward and Swantje could not be better hosts. Not intrusive but always happy to assist with recommendations or trip advice. The facilities for the children are perfect. We love the fact that the facilities for the children are all based around simple fun that encourages the children to find friends and play together. The play barn is fab, the sandpit can be supervised from a nearby sofa and the play area with trampoline and climbing frame is lovely too. The pizza night enables the kids to eat their delicious pizzas together early and the parents to socialise in the evening if you fancy it. The wine night was fun too. The bakery delivery in the morning is appreciated. Chateau de Gurat is the perfect holiday for those that really want to take time out to truly relax and spend time with the family in a simple environment that has the perfect balance for children and parents. Thank you Edward and Swantje we will obviously be back!

I wouldn’t usually write a review, but Château du Gurat deserves it. Firstly, Edward and Swantje are unbelievably kind and helpful and go out of their way to make the holiday even more enjoyable.

The gites are all very well equipped and you can hire (at no extra cost) anything you need to save you lugging it away with you on holiday (changing mat / potty / steriliser etc).

The 6 gites all have their own private terrace and you don’t ever feel like you’re being overlooked by anyone. Their gardens are absolutely beautiful and divide the gites in a very clever way.

We have been to gurat twice, most recently over half term and I was worried nothing could beat our first visit, BUT it did and it’s all down to the set up at gurat. The Giant sand pit, the toy barn (as we call it), the pools (only to be accessed with an adult due to the fencing and high handle), trampoline, boules - the list is endless. To top it off, at the end of the day you can go and feed the goats and chickens. Magical.

They host a pizza night and wine tasting (no pressure to join either, but it is well worth it) for grown-ups (children have their pizza evening earlier). Such a fun evening and incredibly generous for the price.

They provide a great guide to local activities and highly recommend lac jemaye. We have a 5yr old and 2yr old and they thoroughly enjoyed.

All in all, I can’t recommend Gurat more... I almost don’t want share this hidden gem, but Edward and Swantje deserve the recommendation for all their amazing efforts with what they’ve created.

A superb family friendly Gite in the heart of the French countryside. We had a week here and loved it, the accommodation is spacious and comfy and well equipped for babies and toddlers.

Ed & Swantje are great hosts, offering lots of advice on things to do and useful services such as homemade food and wine delivery.

Pizza night and wine tasting mean you have good opportunities to interact with the other adult guests on an evening. During the day the pool area is the perfect place to relax with the kids, our son also loved the goats and chickens!

Highly recommended.

We all had a fantastic time - best family holiday we've had! The set up is perfect for families with young children who are ready for a bit of independence within safe limits. The play barn, sandpit, playground and pool were a big hit with our girls (aged 3 and 6) and we were able to relax and enjoy the beautiful setting. It's also a great location for exploring other sites if we could drag the children away! Edward and Swantje are perfect hosts - nothing was too much trouble. We will definitely be back!
