Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

When you book a guest house or b&b you're not expecting a hotel style experience. This however was much better in my eyes. A lovely little place, with fantastic staff who could not do enough for you, welcoming but at the same time gave you privacy and were not invasive. The full English breakfast was the best that I've had, simply wonderful, cooked beautifully and did not repeat on me for the rest of the day, which is always a worry. Now my girlfriend was on a course whilst we were here and I spent all day in the hotel room, I was very happy, played on my xbox on the 40inch+ TV and relaxed in the wonderful room. It was a typically English style room.
If I had one complaint it would be the sound of the drains, the pump is rather noisy, but honestly was a fantastic stay, I always try to leave a criticism to stay objective, but I have no real complaints. Oh and the highlights...cafetiere coffee for breakfast! Wonderful!

A b&b with good off road parking to the front of the property. I received a very pleasant welcome and was shown to my room which was a reasonable size. A very comfortable bed, small desk and seat, along with the usual facilities.

Breakfast was excellent. Cereals, fresh fruit, yoghurt, fruit juice along with a really nicely cooked full English. The coffee was also very good.

Good value on the edge of the New Forest and only a short drive into Southampton and the ferry and cruise terminals.

This is a cracking little place to stay. The owners are amazing and very friendly nothing is to much trouble. it's very clean and breakfast is one of the best I've had and believe me I've had loads all over the country. Wouldn't hesitate to stay again and I've been here for 3 weeks in total.

Thank you so much for a very warm welcome.

We may have stayed at Forest Gate Lodge on a bad weekend, but we won't be returning to confirm if this is true.

Admittedly, we didn't confirm the check in time, but we were turned away at 2pm and told the official time to check in was 4pm. It was surprising that we weren't offered an option to stow our luggage etc, but again, that was our fault for not noticing the check in time.

Rooms were small, but tidy. Unfortunately it was the cleaning that was far more invasive than helpful. I had also deliberately left clothes out to air, and moved a bin for convenience. Everything was moved when we returned. I was very uncomfortable having my intimate things moved (and put in cupboards etc) just to make the bed.

There was also no clear division between the hosts and their family and the guests. This became especially uncomfortable late at night.

I hope future guests have a better experience than we did.

Just spent two nights at the Forest Gate Lodge and it was in a great lodge. The only thing I would say is that the room size was smaller than expected, breakfast offered was standard but the staff were very helpful and friendly and it's close to both the forest and also if you want to go to Southampton as well.

We stayed at Forest Gate Lodge for 2 nights, to go cycling around the New Forest.
The owners are very friendly and welcoming. Our room was an adequate size for the two of us, very clean and modern.
Breakfasts were fantastic- very quick to serve!
All in all, a lovely B&B that we would stay at again!

I stayed for the first time in Ashurst although visit the New Forest a few times a year. The welcome was fantastic, loved my stay here and will recommend to my friends and family. The room was very comfortable few minutes walk from the train station as I don't drive extremely friendly owners and hope to stay again next year at some point.

Lovely place to stay while in town, really nice welcome and a bit of info on the local area and then left to your own devices to come and go as you please. Really really nice breakfast - made to order plus all the bits and bobs you’d expect & lovely hosts. Thanks Val & Mark! xx

We were welcomed by Val and Mark with big smiles. After giving us the brief on the B n B we were shown to our small (though big enough for our weekend needs) but immaculate room.

Everything is within walking distance. There was a row of local restaurants, a co-op and the train station was a 5 minute walk. This B n B is perfectly situated by the forest if trail walking is your thing.

The breakfast was lovely. A nice range of choice, from full english to smoked salmon and scrambled egg!

Highly recommended and would stay here again.
