Visited here way back in 2008. It was amazing then and still is. Such friendly hosts and an amazing setting. Wish we could have spent more time there. If we were planning a wedding, this would be top of the list.

My friends & I went to Byron from Melbourne & visited the Fig Tree over the weekend after e-mail correspondence with the lovely Sarah & we met Che to look at the Fig Tree for our Wedding venue, I was absolutely blown away by the beauty & location of the Fig Tree, even the rain did not take away from the magical vibe of this place.

Che was so helpful, knowledgeable & easy to deal with & the restaurant & grounds were just perfect for a Wedding!

We had a tour of 'The Dairy' accommodation & it was beautiful!
Spacious, well designed & perfect for a weekend getaway or of course getting ready for your big day it had a real boho luxury vibe about it which I loved!

The Fig Tree had a Wedding off-site so we went to their Sister restaurant the ‘Eatery’ in the main town for lunch & the food was to die for, great selection & so fresh & delicious & excellent service.
I was truly impressed & I could not recommend both the Restaurants & the accommodation highly enough.

I will definitely be making the Fig Tree & Eatery a regular haunt when we are back in Byron.

My wife and I went to the Fig Tree Restaurant last Saturday 11 Feb for lunch. It is about 10 minutes from Byron not far from the main Highway / Byron turnoff. The setting was an old house on top of a hill in a rural area. In the distance you can see the coast and Cape Byron. View excellent - see if you can get a window seat.

The menu on the day was a list of tasting dishes organised into 6 groups with 2 choices in each group - Starters Group 1 and ending with desserts group 5 and cheese selections group 6. Hope this explains the situation. The prices on the day were $25 two courses, $35 four courses or $45 for six courses. Was very reasonable we thought although they are tasting plates so you don't get a lot.

Without going into what we ate as I think the selections change often, we both thought the food was excellent and one of the best lunches we had ever had. The dessert was just heaven.

The service was excellent, the meals came in a timely manner, the staff very friendly, we could not fault it.

I saw the other comments regarding service but we did not experience this though there weren't many people there at the time. The waitress we had was very good but there was only one and if it had of been busier, she may have been overwhelmed.

We had booked a week at this location, it is a house next to a restaurant run by the owners. The cost was $2,000AUS for 7 days. On arrival, they were still "cleaning" so we had to occupy ourselves for an hour and a half. When we settled in and unpacked our groceries, we decided we would cook on the barbecue. Imagine our horror when opening the hood to find a pool of grease floating in water! The owner came to clean this straight away, however, we decided not to cook on the bbq. We then had a serious look around the house; cobwebs in every corner, and I'm not talking small, dusty cobwebs, I'm saying they would not have seen a duster in many months, big, thick cobwebs around the ceiling fans, under the cooktop canopy and on every outside surface. The cooktop was covered in grease, the ceiling in the kitchen/dining was orange with grease, there was mould on the kitchen ceiling and in each of the bathrooms. We were wondering what we had stepped in to. We had left some bananas in a fruit bowl on the kitchen counter and woke up in the morning to find that they had been gnawed..... obviously rodents were present. My brother-in-law went to speak to the owner to advise him that he needed to discuss some issues with him. As he was busy in the restaurant, he advised that he would return later that day. We went out and didn't return until later in the evening and noticed that the rest of the bananas that we had wrapped in plastic had been chewed through! Later in the evening, we were sitting in the lounge room when I noticed something at the corner of my eye.... the rat was crawling over the kitchen counter !!!! The next morning I went to speak to the owner whose attitude was unbelievable. He advised that he was happy with the cleanliness aspect of the house, shrugged his shoulders when I told him about the rat and advised me that he has a successful business which is booked out every week! He also advised me that we were free to leave any time we liked. Not once did he acknowledge our complaint. He may have a successful business, now, but how long will that last with an attitude like his? And, I wonder how many repeat customers he has? Do yourself a favour, avoid this place like the plague, if you'll pardon the pun!

We had a similar experience at this place.

Really grotty accommodation at a premium price. And the most appalling attitude from the owner/manager, who needs to learn a thing or two about customer service.

I'm amazed that the place hasn't been closed down by the relevant health authorities - we spotted mice and cockroaches, and as described by 'Smitty' - greasy, dirty kitchen. Bathrooms looked like they needed a serious scrub. The fridge was verging on disgusting and he cobwebs outside have to be seen to be believed. Horrible!

We asked for our money back - but the owner wouldn't have a bar of it. So we packed up and left early.

Stay away - and tell ALL your friends about this place. It's to be avoided at all costs!

I recommended this venue to a friend who was getting married, and I am highly embarrassed that I did. The managers were only accommodating when they wanted to be, but constantly reassuring everything would be perfect. On the day it was far from good....the meals were terrible and a table of 12 people had a plate of 6 potatoes to share!!! It was VERY poorly catered for, the kitchen had to be asked to cook another meal for the bride and groom as they didn't even get any food off the bridal table.
The staff were very rushed and trying to hurry the bride to finish the reception so the next wedding could set up!!!!
It was honestly one of the worst receptions I have ever been to because of the venue, and it was one of my close friends so I regret ever recommending them. So many guests kept commenting how stingy it was.
It's a nice spot, but these people just want your money, they don't care about delivering great service or enough food on the day.

We ate here for New Years Eve and the meal started out excellently with lovely fresh produce put together in interesting ways. As the restaurant filled up things went downhill and it felt like all the staff were really stressed.. Not helped, I would think, by a head chef who acted like a bit of a bully. We waited 40 minutes between courses and our duck main was very tough and underdone.

We won't go back

We have been to the Fig Tree before as they usually have very good vegetarian options on their 4-course Thursday menu. This time, however, they obviously couldn't be bothered making any effort for vegetarians apart from some very small salad-type dishes and an incredibly boring stuffed tomato dish for main. The service was really poor - they forgot we were waiting for the main course (about an hour) and even took 20 minutes to prepare the bill. Definitely not good value for vegetarians and only marginally good value for meat-eaters as the courses are very small. We won't be going again

We saw the menu for this restaurant online which looked superb (and was), however it seemed understaffed on the night, with some customers having to go and find the staff to ask for a drink.
We had the 6- course degustation, and were there for nearly 3 hours. We waited between 15 and 30 minutes for our empty plates to be cleared between courses, and were not offered extra drinks when we finished the first ones. The food was amazing, and the staff were obviously working hard, but it was clear that they were stressed and couldn't handle the number of customers, which was a pity as it would have added a lot to the experience.
The food would be worth returning for, but only on a quiet night.

The food is excellent and in the end that is why we go there. An exceptional taste experience. Nouvelle cuisine sized portions but exquisite flavours. Take the 4 or 6 course option - you won't be disappointed. So what spoiled the evening for us? The sullen, unfriendly, unhelpful head waitress/manageress who will make you feel quite unwelcome. Fortunately, the waitress who served us throughout the evening was friendly and efficient. Great location, first class food, friendly staff BUT....
