Apollonia Beach Resort & Spa is lauded for its immaculate grounds and spa, though some guests have been disturbed by the early cleaning noise. While the spa services receive accolades for their quality and the staff's attentiveness, feelings are mixed regarding the overall value, with the hotel often being criticized for not meeting 5-star expectations. The location has its detractors, particularly due to limited vegan options. Guestrooms, however, have drawn criticism for cleanliness and maintenance issues. Despite a vibrant atmosphere with lively entertainment, concerns about environmental practices and noise have been voiced. Service is generally praised, especially in the spa area, but some guests report less satisfactory experiences with responsiveness in other departments.

We had a pleasant and peaceful stay.
Strong points: Peaceful and relaxing hotel in May. Staff available, friendly, attentive, ready to help you. some speak French.
Clean and spacious hotel, lots of green spaces and places to rest without consuming.
Clean and modern bedroom and bathroom, with an equipped terrace. we slept very well.
Beach easily accessible, well maintained, deckchair, parasol and towel available in good condition, little background music not too loud.
A bus stop right in front of the hotel to take you to the city center.
Varied sweet and savory breakfast.
Very convenient shop/supermarket in the hotel that sells everything.
Weak point: The hot meals in the evening, we were on a half-board basis, we didn't really like the taste of the preparations or the desserts, perhaps a matter of taste...
In the city center we found our happiness in the restaurants near the port.

My partner and I stayed at the end of August, an excellent facility for us with very helpful and always smiling staff ready to answer any questions asked. The welcoming and clean rooms have a large balcony where you can enjoy the wonderful view of the sea. The main restaurant offers a very rich buffet where any palate can be satisfied with truly tasty foods of all types. Then there is the vegan, Italian and Greek restaurant where in the latter we spent a pleasant evening both for the excellent food and the very friendly service and capable of receiving guests with a smile on their faces and the famous raki. It also has swimming pools for adults and children always under the observation of the friendly lifeguards. It also has a wellness center where you can enjoy moments of relaxation. Finally, I would like to thank the entertainment staff for the pleasant days that their company allowed us to spend among sports activities (aquatic, mini golf, pin pong, beach volleyball, yoga, pilates...) and the magnificent evening shows all put on by them with great commitment in particular I would like to praise Gianluca the head entertainer for his ability to organize all the staff and the always smiling Martina with her gymnastics and her dances for making our holiday splendid! Guys, we'll be back next year.

I can highly recommend the hotel. Great food, lots of choice, especially for gluten-free food. We had half board, if you need to you can upgrade at any time or pay extra for the meal. The bar is always open, great local drinks, there are also branded drinks for an extra charge. There is a restaurant and bars on the beach, our children were very happy, pizza, chips, ice cream available every day :). There are large pools and one for babies. Lots of loungers everywhere, the beach is also OK, small drawback, there are some large stones in the water, so I recommend bringing rubber bathing shoes. There is a small all-round shop where you can get everything you need for fair prices. For children aged 3-12 there is great children's entertainment all day long and a children's disco every evening, thanks again to Sarah and Angela. There is also some entertainment for the adults, sports, yoga, aquaerobics..., plus there is a show or music every evening at 9.30 p.m. The hotel/rooms are a few years old but well maintained. Tennis court, mini golf, football, beach volleyball, everything was great. Staff, cleaning, kitchen, really all the employees do their best. From the hotel to the city it takes 25m by bus, which runs every 20m. Negative: A lot of the equipment in the games room was broken, a safe in the room costs €25 extra per week and the toilets in the lobby/basement should be modernized. We would be happy to come back.

Hotel Appolonia is certainly not worth 5 stars, but it still appealed to us. There was plenty of staff present, all of whom were very friendly.
We had booked half board and were still entitled to free sun beds, beach towels and still or sparkling water for breakfast and dinner.
The bed linen was changed every 2 days, and if you wanted you could enjoy fresh bath linen every day.
Upon arrival you were given a wristband that also served as a key for the room. Very handy. The room had fly screens.
The choice for breakfast and dinner was very large, but the quality was poor. Fortunately, there was always something that was tasty.
The bread offered was very tasty, and there was a corner with Cretan specialties. Kudos, because the buffet was kept very tidy.
Unfortunately, the hotel also had some negatives for us. As mentioned, the quantity of the food took precedence over the quality.
Our biggest annoyance was the noise and disrespectful behavior of some guests in the dining room.
There were many children, who from the age of a few years on, sat down at the buffet with their plates. Many dishes ended up on the floor.
Those who were too small and sat in a chair were allowed to finish their own plate. The parents did not clean up the leftovers on the floor.
Full dishes were brought by some guests, which sometimes remained untouched on the table afterwards. Others made a mess of it.
There was a lot of choice in entertainment, including a spa and wellness for a fee.
The hotel had a nice swimming pool, but the music was way too loud for us. Fortunately, it was a little quieter on the beautiful sandy beach.
We had a frontal view of the sea, but on the other side was a large power station that sometimes caused some odor nuisance.

Disastrous vacation
1st day we arrive and the bungalow room with indoor jacuzzi does not exist, however a service compensation worth 250 euros was granted to us for the lack of the jacuzzi.
According to them the hotel on 3 floors is a bungalow.
Noise (very loud music until 11 p.m. even no earplugs available for customers who want to rest)
The swimming pool is a real danger, super slippery despite great vigilance I slipped from the top of the stairs to end up on my butt at the bottom of the stairs (according to them I was the first person to fall and it's not their fault)
The food is passable but lacks variety every day the same buffets.
The self-service sodas for all inclusive are far too sweet and therefore undrinkable. Machines work poorly when they are not broken or empty. The stairs are broken.
The bedding leaves something to be desired.
The bathtub is damaged.
The cleanliness leaves something to be desired rooms are not cleaned every day the sheets when they are dirty are not changed.
BE CAREFUL CLEARLY NOT A 5 STAR

A family of 5 we stayed in two bungalow rooms. Both rooms very run down. One had a disgusting smell of eggs the whole time which must have been the drains. Cleaners started cleaning outside from 6am so woken up early every morning by them talking and brushing up. Bathroom is horrible, brown stains on bath and toilet, shower fitting broken so shower kept falling off. No hangers on wardrobe and limited shelving so we just lived out of suitcase. Overflow pipe over our terrace so water poured onto edge of our terrace and towels drying there every morning. Staff generally friendly but when we complained about our room we were talked over and not listened to needless to say they weren’t interested to sort our issues and frankly quite rude and dismissive. I don’t usually write reviews on hotels but feel I have to on this one to stop people making the mistake we did. Don’t book this hotel if you want four star because it is far from that.

To call this a vegan friendly hotel is a joke, there is as much options here as any other all inclusive hotel, the only thing making it vegan is the fact there is a vegan restaurant inside the hotel, that you can only book once and serves shop bought burgers, also considering this is a Greek hotel you would think they would have humus or falafel or something, as far as I can tell the only thing Greek about this hotel is the location and that most staff speak the language. Please if you are a vegan looking for a hotel and saw this and thought you hit the jackpot, ignore the other reviews, they’re are just meat eaters commenting that some things have a vegan label. Also when I spoke to staff about this they said well you’re not allergic so they didn’t care.

Dear Guest, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We're sorry we didn't meet your expectations; we wish you had a better experience. We work hard to deliver an exceptional guest experience, and it's apparent in this case that we fell short. Concerning your quotes for our vegan restaurant, we always allow guests to visit our a la carte restaurants more then once under the condition that there is availability as the tables are limited in the restaurant. You could have asked any time in the Guest Relations Office if a second or third visit is possible. It is correct that our vegan burger is a convenient food burger. Please consider that, the most popular and internationally most sold burger "Beyond Burger" is also a vegan convenient food burger used in a lot of vegan or vegan friendly restaurants. The burger we use is of high quality and highly praised by our numerous vegan and non-vegen guests. We may remind you at this point that, neither humus nor falafel is a typical Greek food. These dishes are origin from the middle-eastern countries like Egypt and other Arabic countries. Our hotel is listed since years at "Vegan Welcome" and "Happy Cow". We have accommodated for many years vegan guests which were very satisfied with the choices in our restaurants. Even in the Greek and the Italian restaurant our vegan guests will always find a vegan choice in the all inclusive menu. We are sorry that we could not meet your expectations. Sincerely, Guest Relations Team – Apollonia Beach Resort & Spa

We were two people (60+) in quite a few places in Greece and compare with the previous visit to Crete in September 2023 (IBEROSTAR 4* hotel) we are ready to give this hotel a maximum of 3+*. Everything is very old and shabby.
On the positive side: it’s quite clean, the staff is friendly and conscientiously tries to do their job; good alcoholic drinks and cocktails everywhere both in restaurants and bars; the beach is equipped and cleaned; food without frills but you won’t leave hungry; very good pools for both children and adults (25 meters), you can swim and dive.
Everything else is consistent with the age of the hotel (more than 40 years) and without major renovation. Everything looks very tired and in need of replacement (plumbing, furniture, beds, dishes, etc.). I didn’t like the sea - the entrance is natural slabs (flat stones in different planes), it’s comfortable to enter only in slippers.

Disappointed, it is not a 5 star , the staff not very friendly. the à la carte restaurants must be booked 3 days in advance , very restrictive hours. we arrived 10 minutes before the end of the closing time to book an à la carte meal , we found door closed.... I went to the reception to report them, they were very unpleasant, telling me that I had to send an email to complain .

finally we did not go to the à la carte restaurant because it is paid for half board (a reduction of 10€ per person)
the main restaurant starts ridding at 9 pm while this restaurant closes at 9:30 pm.
in the morning breakfast opens at 07:00 but only inside. the terrace is open only from 07:30.
not enough tables . if you dare to enter the restaurant, an employee yells at you in English ... most staff are unpleasant with few exceptions
The furniture is dirty and old, the pool full of sand, the deckchairs are broken.
when one is lucky to find a deckchair available as most are booked with only beach towels.
Beach like this, you have to get up early to get a deckchair.
the food is good.
the lobby bar is very expensive. if you want to eat a meal at noon, it is a buffet. no table service despite the very expensive Award
the pool is too small for the number of people.
a smell of gasoline permanently on the outside, certainly at the power plant right next door.
the lifeguards only watch the young girls despite the danger of the sea due to the high wind. we stayed only with a beach towel for 2 days because ours fell on the floor below, despite a report at the reception... I had to ask a cleaning lady to give me another
the room is cleaned daily but not thoroughly , 2 glasses available that are not washed . the bathtub and shower mat with mold . photo in annexes

Anyway, we won't go back!

Negatives:
The room was the only disappointment about the hotel - unfortunately the mattress was super uncomfortable and the room really very small.
The drinks were very very sweet - so you can dilute like.
The coffee makers are always connected with queuing time (1-2 people before you get to it).

Positives:
For us as vegans there was a small selection of dishes every day. Of course, there is more and more to choose from, but for today's standard, which you are usually used to, it was almost a paradise.
Beach and pool were well maintained and not overcrowded beyond measure. It was already full, but you still somehow got two loungers.
The entertainment team has done a lot of work. They were always polite and tried to get people excited about the program, but were not too intrusive.
The SPA was a special surprise. Although a bit expensive (~80€ per application), you can also use sauna and hot stone chairs. For the applications themselves, I can only recommend contacting Haris. The man understands his craft and has made relaxation perfect.
